To ask if there are people on here who've never cooked a Christmas dinner before?

And how old are you? I was really surprised when someone I know on FB posted that they were so sad not to be travelling to their parents with their family this year and that she's never cooked a Christmas dinner in her life.

She's 50!

Her parents are in their late 70s and early 80s!

Do these people not feel guilty or weird about going home like this every year?

I mean...going home is lovely...but surely you could muck in with the cooking if your parents are that elderly?

'Roast potatoes are a bit more tricky as involve peeling but par boil, shake em about to fluff the surface.'

Not if you use baby potatoes, wash and leave them whole and also leave skins on. Part boil them and bung on tray with herbs, seasoning and oil. They roast beautifully and even my toddler loves them.

First time this year at 36.....we have gone to inlaws every time. I do 'muck in' but was never delagated turkey duty or anything. Would bring a dessert or buy veg then prepare it etc. But the whole thing start to finish...nope.

I’m 42 and never cooked one!
DH does the cooking in this house. I’m sure I could do an adequate job if I had to as I have cooked roasts. But DH better at it.
Before DH my Dad always cooked for us. It’s definitely a “man job” in my family Grin.
I prefer to just get quietly pissed.

Agree many Christmas dinners go far beyond a standard roast dinner, it is the chicken-spuds-veg-gravy combo that is straightforward.

My dad added a LOT of extra elements so had a detailed list for Christmas day Grin.

Me, age 45. I’m a pretty good cook but we always go to my parents (both age 65)
My dad fancies himself as a masterchef cook, has a massive kitchen, 2 ovens & every gadget you could imagine. Offers of help are very much not welcomed!
This year I’ll be cooking for just the 3 of us, the element has blown in my oven so I’ll be using a combination of the tiny top oven & the bbq - what could possibly go wrong 😂

Me. 49. I have ADHD. There's no way I could plan, organise, and cook Christmas dinner for a group of people. Even bringing one dish would be too much for me. So my contribution is the drinks (non alcoholic) and crackers. Also a financial contribution towards food.

I've never cooked Christmas dinner, because I haven't eaten Christmas dinner since I was about 13.
