"F**k off, Gav. Nobody trusts you"

Gavin Williamson appears to be now more hated than Gove by the education profession, including school leaders and head teachers, which is probably his only achievement since starting the job.

He actually managed to unite all education unions, including heads, governors and the Church of England to write a joint letter refusing to co-operate with his bonkers mass-testing plan. This never happens.

neu.org.uk/media/13741/view

"F**k off Gav. Nobody trusts you. There is no ‘we’. The good will reserves are empty. Some schools are working today on track and trace from last week because you didn’t let them close; your cut ‘n’ paste guidance is unresourced crap. You’re a bad joke."

The above quote from a prominent member of the education community is in response to an article where he gears up to pre-blame teachers and schools for the imminent failure of the mass testing programme that he wants quickly knocked up on a shoestring budget over the Christmas holidays. (Do Serco not have any of their billions of pounds budget left for this?)

Given the complete breakdown in the relationship between Gavin Williamson and the people he is supposed to lead, is it indeed time for Gav to f**k off?

YABU: No, Gav is doing just fine
YANBU: Fuck off, Gav

You misunderstand chloe

chloemol is not having a whinging moan

She is, ermm...oh fuck it i dont know

Sounded like a whinging moan but what would I know

Hercwasonasnowball · 21/12/2020 17:27

god forbid anything like this ever happen again you can all take charge

Mners would do a better job than Gav. Heck even the actual DfE would if left to their own devices.

WrongKindOfFace · 21/12/2020 17:27

@noelgiraffe

Yes, who will be supervising the non-DBSed volunteers who are supervising the swabbing given that school staff are remote teaching or teaching keyworker kids or running a school?
The lollipop man?

Who the fuck would actually volunteer to help with this in a secondary school which is riddled with covid? Testing isn’t a bad idea but the way they ‘plan’ to implement it is nothing but a shitshow.

ByersRd · 21/12/2020 17:28

made up posts talking a complete load of twiddle,

Haha, if only, I talk to the DfE everyday.....

Skysblue · 21/12/2020 17:29

He’s completely incompetent. I assume he was appointed because of personal loyalty to Boris Johnson. Gavin Williamson can’t even string a convincing sentence together. This cabinet is an embarrassment but he is the worst for sure.

This must be the worst government in UK history surely? (I mean unless you count all the medieval wars.) It is very difficult to think of a less competent government, certainly in my lifetime all of them whether Conservative or Labour have been way better.

(Not saying that Corybn would have been any better. Obvs not.)

Just aaaaaaaaaaagh why did we get stuck with such a bunch of morons at the same time as a pandemic / huge political challenge.

F*ck off Gav and take your mates with you.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/12/2020 17:31

And this was quite obviously a thread complaining about williamson

Its not like it was a trick thread ‘gav is wonderful ......SURPRISE!’

don’t want to read any moaning dont open a moaning thread

TheBuffster · 21/12/2020 17:32

@Chloemol

Tell you what op, you and all the rest of the whinging moaners on here can all stand under the Mumsnet party in the next election and god forbid anything like this ever happen again you can all take charge

I have reached the end today with the continual government bashing on this site, the made up posts talking a complete load of twiddle, the use of good old Mumsnet common sense, the calls that school must be open during the first lockdown and now they are the calls to close them.I have been placed into a T 4 area, and all the shit that entails for Christmas and whilst I get it’s a new strain, it’s not helped because of the muppets who simply don’t think they need to follow rules and spread it around, and that would appear to be a considerable number of selfish MNetters who are open that they are not going to follow the rules and thus we will continue to be locked down

I have great admiration for all front line staff be they medical, retail, teachers, bankers and everyone else who has to put up with the verbal shit they get day in day out from people who are quick to moan and slow to understand, we are in a worldwide pandemic, we are not the only country going through this, but I don’t see them moaning like we do

You seem to have missed the point that it's teachers who are (rightfully!) Questioning this back of a cigarette pack plan. How can you 'respect' teachers whilst asking them not to moan. And I can guarantee if teachers had mucked up to the extent that Gav and co have you'd be baying for blood.
ineedaholidaynow · 21/12/2020 17:32

FSM will also needed to be sorted for all qualifying pupils remote learning at home.

Schools in other countries have had better safety measures put in place. I am assuming other countries may have given schools funding to help this (they may have even had better funding before so already had smaller class sizes, better ventilated classrooms etc)

Hopefully, other countries don't routinely give important guidance to schools on a day before school holidays start.

noelgiraffe · 21/12/2020 17:33

I assume he was appointed because of personal loyalty to Boris Johnson.

Gav had the ‘right’ opinion on Brexit and is still in post because when he fucked up the exams, he posted a pic of himself posing with a whip to remind Boris he used to be Chief Whip and knows where the bodies are buried.

OP posts:
sherrystrull · 21/12/2020 17:34

He's useless and also reactive. He lies and shows absolutely no support for school staff

MaryLeeOnHigh · 21/12/2020 17:36

Such a raving hypocrite. First of all he went all holier-than-thou at Greenwich about the horrors of their proposal to move to education online for four days at the end of this term, citing the sacredness of continuity of education; they suddenly continuity of education no longer became significant at all when he decided that every school in the country should move to online teaching for the first week of next term. And then he decided that teaching time is better spent on performing medical tests than, y'know, teaching.

And all the while parents of children with SEN who haven't been allowed back to school at all, or not full time, look on in bemusement at which education is so important for every child except theirs, apparently.

MaryLeeOnHigh · 21/12/2020 17:39

Just aaaaaaaaaaagh why did we get stuck with such a bunch of morons at the same time as a pandemic / huge political challenge.

Because all the Conservative politicians with half a brain could see what a total fuck-up Johnson was making over Brexit and were prepared to say so, so ended up having to resign or being sacked. So the only ones left are the ones who support Johnson, and you have to be utterly stupid to do that. The only exception is probably Gove, who isn't stupid but is corrupt and venal and is following his own agenda.

FrippEnos · 21/12/2020 17:39

Chloemol

That is one hell of a rant.

Now point it in the direction of those that deserve it.

Piggyinblankets · 21/12/2020 17:41

but I don’t see them moaning like we do

How do you know?? Have you done a worldwide survey??

FWIW my DM and DSis are in the US. They moan. Italians are moaning. Many of the French are complaining. The Swedes are fucking livid. The Danes are suspicious.

TheBuffster · 21/12/2020 17:49

@ChloeDeckTheHalls

Supervised volunteers don’t actually qualify for DBS checks to carry out this sort of activity.

assuming they’ll be supervised....

I work in education. We require checks for parent helpers because practically, you can't supervise volunteers all the time and volunteers need to be able to take children to toilets etc. Yes it's a pain but safeguarding checks are there for a reason.
Makingnumber2 · 21/12/2020 17:55

I vote @IHateThesePosts to take over from Gav- clearly got a ton of great, realistic and workable ideas 'Can't teachers just....?'

Perhaps @Chloemol could be deputy and then they might develop a genuine respect for teachers and all they have to do and appreciate why so many of us are flabbergasted by the ludicrous timescale of what is being proposed!

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 21/12/2020 17:56

It is quite something if education staff say that they prefer Gove to Gav.

Achristmaspudsskidu · 21/12/2020 18:04

we are not the only country going through this, but I don’t see them moaning like we do

Oh, which other country’s parenting forums do you routinely follow to make that assumption? That’s impressive; you must speak a wide range of languages.

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 21/12/2020 18:06

It’s really hard to pick just one incompetent twat when there are so many to choose from.

Blacktothepink · 21/12/2020 18:19

He’s the invisible man

dontfeedtheunicorn · 21/12/2020 18:23

In retrospect I think I preferred Gove to Gav. I didn't think I'd be writing that sentence!

It makes me want to scream when the government harp on about schools being vital and the best place for our children yet they have continuously underfunded schools for years. My school (primary) are on to our 4th year of redundancies. We are already on a skeleton staff and I'm afraid we are going to lose our most valuable resource, our LSAs.

I've never felt as disillusioned about teaching as I do right now. I loved my job a few years ago and I'm so sad that I feel the way I do. Having said that, I absolutely adore my class, they are amazing and have worked incredibly hard since September. All my year 2s passed the delayed phonics screening a couple of weeks ago. I'm so proud of so far they have come.

saraclara · 21/12/2020 18:30

we are not the only country going through this, but I don’t see them moaning like we do

@Chloemol ha! You couldn't be more wrong. I have friends in many European countries and they're all moaning like there's no tomorrow. I've been positively measured compared to them.

noelgiraffe · 21/12/2020 18:52

In retrospect I think I preferred Gove to Gav. I didn't think I'd be writing that sentence!

It’s just mad, isn’t it? I think it has to be restricted to the field of Education Secretary though because when you add in Gove’s Brexit efforts, it definitely swings back to Gove as the worst.

OP posts:
SansaSnark · 21/12/2020 18:56

Tbf we don't need people to escort secondary age children to the toilet.

But yes it is practically impossible to ensure volunteers are supervised 100% of the time and there are no spare school staff to do this.

And Williamson is scary - suing to keep schools open one week, and then having them partially close the first week of term. It feels very much like ego getting in the way of practicality.

At this stage I think I would put money on some kids gnot going back on the 11th.

StripyHorse · 21/12/2020 18:59

@RufustheSniggeringReindeer

I honestly didnt think i could loathe anyone more than Gove

But williamson managed it

Exactly!
