to ask how on earth you coped as a pregnant student?

Hi all, I've recently found out I'm pregnant. I'm a 3rd year healthcare student (not nursing / midwifery). I'm already feeling rough (exhausted, nausea, cramping) and really worried about the next few months. I'm meant to be on placement in hospitals up until just before Easter next year. How on earth do I cope AND manage to successfully finish? Anyone successfully managed to finish an undergraduate degree whilst pregnant, particularly if it was healthcare? Thankfully my placements only involve days so I'm not having to contend with working nights too!

I graduated 7 months pregnant (back in the dim and distant past).
I did pretty much everything I'd done in the previous years except I swerved the labs involving radioactive sources.
People were pretty good at letting me rest when I needed to.
I got a separate room for my final exams, so I could go to the loo -every 10 minutes- without disrupting everyone.

Thanks for your reply @InMySpareTime did you have to collect clinical evidence for a portfolio? At the moment we are having to do a clinical portfolio, dissertation, lectures + then obviously the placements. I'm worried about how I'll get it all done with the exhaustion. I'm lucky on the exam front as I get extra time anyway and I'm the only one who does (weirdly, thought there'd be more of us) so always in a room on my own so won't be disturbing anybody, Did they give you any extra time or just expect you to deal with the lost time from pee breaks?

I didn't have to do a portfolio, I had my midwife notes but nobody asked to see them. I studied physics (back in the days before Student Fees) so I think the academics there didn't know how to cope with a female, let alone a pregnant one!
I'm fairly confident about stating my needs and negotiating ways round and issues, so I think they just let me do what I wanted.

Re. Extra time for pee breaks, I never needed extra time anyway so I didn't find out. Even with breaks I was usually twiddling my thumbs by the end.

@InMySpareTime ahh fair enough on the time. I used to be that way. Not so much any more though. The portfolio is for our evidence whilst out on placement, not evidence of pregnancy iyswim. So we have to show evidence we can certain procedures and basically act as an independent practitioner. It just takes up a lot of evening time after placement so very little time to relax / rest Sad

Maybe I'm just worrying about nothing and it'll all be okay.

It's a shame they didn't know how to deal with a female, I'm not entirely surprised though. Even now a friend doing physics is one of the only females on her course.
