Worst in Living Memory?

Maybe it’s because we’re all caught up in everything right now, but AIBU to think Boris Johnson the worst Prime Minister in living memory? I mean, which of the former PMs, wouldn’t you swap in for him? Or is he just a victim of a bad set of circumstances?

@MrsMiaWallis He has property worth millions, whilst his wife is a billionaire heiress so what?

So it is pretty patronising and hypocritical for him to be telling the public that it is their responsibility to go out and spend their savings in order to save the economy!

But its his job to protect the economy Confused

@PeriPeriMenosauce

The alternative to Boris was Jezza. Much happier to have Boris.
Absolutely irrelevant to the question.
amispeakingenglish · 23/12/2020 10:07

He and all his government are the absolute worst ever. They should have formed a coalition of experienced states people at the start. All Boris has done is serve his rich mates and go on holiday. The whole lot should be hung for treason, he is even worse than Thatcher. There is no excuse for his complete incompetency, and non of them care about anyone but their own.

MrsMiaWallis · 23/12/2020 10:09

Absolutely irrelevant to the question but it isn't completely irrelevant.

Sozzler · 23/12/2020 10:10

If you can't see anything wrong with someone from a billionaire family telling us all to go out and spend our savings in order to save the economy then there is not much more I can say to you I'm afraid, apart from maybe you should do a little research into how harmful billionaires are to economies.

JinglingHellsBells · 23/12/2020 10:12
@JinglingHellsBells - you missed my point about not turning up at all - all those Cobra meetings. The two week holiday in February. And yes I do expect him to turn up on time and respect his office & the people who put him there. He's wanted this job all his life. In the Private Sector he would be long gone. I'm ashamed that he's our Prime Minister. Look at some of the works headlines mocking us.
How do you know he wasn't attending Cobra meetings virtually? He was almost dead with Covid. I know of someone (friend of a friend) who attends Cobra meetings. It's not as simple as what you see in the press or think you know.

ilovesooty · 23/12/2020 10:13

In any case Corbyn is not completely without a moral compass. Johnson stands alone on that. I have never known a politician so irresponsible, amoral and self serving.

Your argument is completely ridiculous.

Noone seems to care that Labour wanted to abolish private schools despite attending and using them themselves, by the way

MrsMiaWallis · 23/12/2020 10:16

Did he tell us to spend our savings? Eat out to help out was to keep restaurants in business and the government bankrolled half of it. I certainly didn't spend any savings.

Kendodd · 23/12/2020 10:16

I bet Johnson and the Tory press will turn up the racism in the next few days to try to keep people on side. Hideous man.

ilovesooty · 23/12/2020 10:16

What has Labour's policy on private schools got to do with Johnson's performance as prime minister?

Sozzler · 23/12/2020 10:16

@JinglingHellsBells Its been widely reported that he completely missed FIVE Cobra meetings in the lead up to pandemic taking hold last March

MrsMiaWallis · 23/12/2020 10:18

@ilovesooty

It was a reply to the ridiculous suggestion that Rishi Sunak can't be a good economist because he comes from a rich family.
MrsMiaWallis · 23/12/2020 10:19

I think if Brexit isn't a complete disaster and the virus pipes down, his popularity will soar, I am sorry to say

Sozzler · 23/12/2020 10:22

@MrsMiaWallis You say my argument is ridiculous and then go on to mention some completely unrelated claim about Labour wanting to abolish private schools!!!

Yes, he definitely said that and it was completely unrelated to the Eat Out to Help Out scheme.

MrsMiaWallis · 23/12/2020 10:26

That article is a piece of shite.

The first paragraph is a complete lie, when they report what he actually said! Is it sponsored by The Canary?!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/12/2020 10:28

@earnshaw47

i actually feel sorry for Boris etc, just think what a job hes got, so so stressful and he cant do right for doing wrong, we all know what hes doing wrong and we all think we know best but , really, none of us know the right way to go, and then of course, theres brexit, Theresa May, was, in my opinion, one of the worst
Then he should resign and allow someone competent to do it.

notafanoftheman - Thank you - excellent summation of the grave-diggers strike.

Nobu · 23/12/2020 10:31

You seriously think that?

As opposed to watching a complete shambles that this government has put us through?

I am genuinely at a loss about how badly the government has to do if it is Tori for some people to admit it is terrible.

It is though Johnson has no history of being a lying incompetent liar. He’s been sacked for it twice.

ancientgran · 23/12/2020 10:33

He was almost dead Was he? I thought he was in ICU as a precaution.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/12/2020 10:34

Thatcher was despicable, but I think she'd have made a better job of dealing with a pandemic than Johnson. She'd have been focussed and decisive, she would have acted promptly, she'd have understood the science, and she recognised that sometimes unpopular decisions have to be made.

Spot on. Lakie

many ministers being rather lightweight, seemingly chosen for political loyalty rather than competence

Exactly galdos - jobs for the boys. We don't need his chums in there we need people who know what they're ding.

He's not only the worst PM, he is presiding over the most incompetent, self-serving, uncaring, and downright corrupt bunch of shysters ever in a British government.

looseddaughter · 23/12/2020 10:36

This. And it's especially vile when he presents himself as the caring face of the Tories. Disgustingly hypocritical.
Sozzler · 23/12/2020 10:36

@MrsMiaWallis The London Economic is not sponsored by the Canary. There are plenty of other news sources reporting the same story.

LadyPenelope68 · 23/12/2020 10:38

I’m not a fan of his at all, but I think saying he’s handled it badly etc, etc is a bit ridiculous to say. It’s not a situation any other PM has ever had to deal with, total unknown situation. Nobody can say anyone would have dealt with it better.

ancientgran · 23/12/2020 10:41

I've never understood the enthusiasm about Sunak, lots of changing his mind, furlough end dates changing after people laid off for example, poorly thought out schemes that leave some groups out entirely and leave lots of scope for fraud (which I think will be a big scandal when this is all over), the eat out scheme was stupid on more than one level and he was supposed to be the one who persuaded Boris not to do the lockdown recommended in September and that went well didn't it. Personally I think he has been a bit of a disaster.
