Worst in Living Memory?

Maybe it’s because we’re all caught up in everything right now, but AIBU to think Boris Johnson the worst Prime Minister in living memory? I mean, which of the former PMs, wouldn’t you swap in for him? Or is he just a victim of a bad set of circumstances?

Boris likes to say he listens to the science but that's part of him avoiding taking ownership of the decisions. He waits until he is forced to make a decision and then says his hands are tied because of "the science". Shame he didn't listen to the science weeks before.

Johnson should never have been allowed to get anywhere near Downing Street as PM. He is an incompetent, dithering, selfish creature. It has been a disaster. So yes, it’s hard to see past the wretch and his wretched incompetence during this time of crisis.

Can anyone honestly say that if they knew a guy in RL who had fathered 6+ kids from 4 different women, disowned by some of his children, cheated on his seriously ill wife, then cheated on the next one too & been sacked twice for lying, they 'd be proud to call him a friend?
Or would you avoid?

He just lacks any moral courage to be PM, its just a big jolly joke for Bojo.

MrsMiaWallis · 22/12/2020 14:33

Can't remember how big his majority was, but I'm pretty sure it was a landslide.

tenredthings · 22/12/2020 14:39

Incompetent, immature, untrustworthy, uncaring, overprivileged, emotionally stunted offspring of inbred colonialist forbears who believes he has a birth right to fuck everyone over for his own benefit.

Peregrina · 22/12/2020 14:51

His majority was 80 - which would probably best be described as handsome rather than a landslide.

VinylDetective · 22/12/2020 15:07

@MrsMiaWallis

With less than half of the votes cast and on a smaller turnout than delivered May’s hung parliament in 2017.
RoSEbuds6 · 22/12/2020 17:37

Do you know, I wouldn't mind Brexit so much if I actually trusted the government to be doing it for the benefit of the electorate, but I really don't. It's just feels like another nest-feathering exercise that will enable the rich to get even richer.

ILoveYoga · 22/12/2020 17:37

Agree with Aprilx and other posters. No other prime minister in living memory has had to deal with this situation. last major pandemic was over 100 years ago.

Given the various rescue packages/furlough etc, I am very happy to be living in UK as compared to other countries. This government, sadly will be damned no matter what they do as there will always be people who say things could be done so much better. So yeah, YABU

IntermittentParps · 22/12/2020 17:40

YANBU.

I’ve been watching The Crown and only half-jokingly saying I’d have Thatcher back.
And I’m a north London liberal elite Labour/Green type.

Yespresh · 22/12/2020 17:50

No need for Boris bashing. This would be a complete nightmare for any political party. He is being guided by health professionals he isn't sat at home with a yes/no/perhaps dice.

Hitler got in with a landslide too, getting elected is a very low bar for competence. Just 40% of the voting electorate voted Conservative.
Facelikearustytractor · 22/12/2020 17:52

I think the question you have to ask is how much of the mistakes of this year have been down to Cummings and his shit psychology theories lifted from some trashy magazine. Let's face it, he was in charge a lot of the time!

Agree with this. It's failed and it's utterly pointless to be doing this, but the public have voted so we now have to follow through.
LexMitior · 22/12/2020 17:58

Cummings hasn’t been in charge of COVID.

And besides, if you think Boris was badly influenced by Cummings, what does that say about the PM?

I think you will find someone has already stepped in, but the failure to decide or plan is still with the PM.

Mummyyyyyyyyyy · 22/12/2020 18:06

As he was not interested from the beginning (avoiding cobra meetings & staying on holiday) when other countries were begging us to take action, I do wonder how he could have done a worse job. He should have formed an all party government (as in the war) and worked for the whole country, not just his cronies.

Bakingcupcake · 22/12/2020 18:13

He is a victim of a bad set of consequences...whay exactly would anyone else have done different..he cant do right for doing wrong!

Kendodd · 22/12/2020 18:15

Has anyone mentioned his garden bridge yet?

impossible · 22/12/2020 18:16

Worst and most boastful pm in living memory - eg not attending first covid meetings as on holiday, proudly shaking hands with covid patients before ending up in hospital himself, discharging elderly into care homes, allowing a million plus travellers to fly into UK during first lockdown with no testing or quarantining, failed track and trace system, failed PPE (contracts given to friends), supporting Dominic Cumming's rule breaking, failed Operation Moonshot, cancelling Christmas with a few days warning so thousands of across country and squeeze onto trains etc etc.
The UK has even worse death rate than US so Johnson has exceeded Trump's incompetence. In contrast landlocked Germany with open boarders and population density similar to ours has less than half the death rate.

Bluethrough · 22/12/2020 18:17

Yes consequences he has helped to transpire.

Acting too slowly or not at all.

Rumour from the tory party is he delayed introducing T4 restrictions to allow MP's to get back to their homes.

Nobu · 22/12/2020 18:21

Not at all Unreasonable
He is a narcissistic, lazy chancer

LastTrainEast · 22/12/2020 18:21

All we know about Boris is that he couldn't cure the virus and he couldn't cure Brexit. Could anyone else have?

He has been criticised for both acting too slowly and too quickly. Of being too strict and not strict enough. You can find threads on here for each combination.

nosswith · 22/12/2020 18:24

@tenredthings you mean US born descendant of a Turkish migrant, surely?

LexMitior · 22/12/2020 18:24

Well isn’t he supposed to plan and take timely decisions? The speed isn’t really the point. He hangs on to the last minute and then he has very few options. That’s bad decision making for a whole country.

nosswith · 22/12/2020 18:27

@Kendodd I mentioned the Garden Bridge on another thread, part of the reasons to remember that you knew why he was unsuitable to be even a government minister. Probably only favoured it because Joanna Lumley was a supporter, alongside the preferential treatment for Jennifer Arcuri.
