I have close friends from my university days living near here, they are going to have a shit xmas as their home has been damaged.

The whole town of Seydisfjordur? Thats terrible. I've been there too. its such steep cliffs and they always look so unstable with run off.
Icelanders are tough although no-one wants to have to go through this.

It's awful isn't it? To have to rush from your home like that. Like you say they are tough but there are limits which a lot of people have been pushed up against this year for a lot of reasons.
