The one thing this virus has revealed to me is people’s need to find someone to blame.
I am being totally responsible and doing all the right things and other sorts of people who are not like me are to blame for this horrible situation. Foreigners were to blame. Northerners were to blame. Then Londoners. Oh but also people who don’t wear masks (even though we don’t know if they are exempt). People who go the beach are to blame. People who sit on benches in the park are to blame. Students. School children. Oh and also the government for not ordering enough ventilators because something something Brexit (gone quiet on that once since we’ve realised ventilators are not the best line of defence).
It’s a mutating virus and a global pandemic. No one in a comparable country is managing to beat this. Almost all of Europe is in lockdown. Including countries that seemed to have this under control earlier in the year. It’s a horrible situation and most people are doing their best to keep their lives on track safely in pretty extraordinary circumstances.
We all need to watch some episodes of Dads’ Army. Armchair experts bitterly denouncing others for their perceived failings are not new.
