How can people on mumsnet continue to deny this. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9072273/Coronavirus-UK-Fury-Northerners-fears-Londoners-spreading-new-mutant-strain.html . Nit so much an Aibu but to confirm to all that this is happening and the government have actually confirmed it

Not this again, do people just blindly believe the Daily Mail without question?

Ellieboolou33 · 20/12/2020 13:08

I don't care! If people want to try and make it how before Christmas let them, doesn't bother me at all.

British government confirm mass evacuation from London

Since when was the Daily Fail the spokespaper for the government? How embarrassing for you!

Bleepers · 20/12/2020 13:12

The Mail was comparing this to the last days of Saigon. It's an unreadable rag.

WorraLiberty · 20/12/2020 13:16

As this is the 3rd Daily Fail screaming, scaremongering thread since yesterday evening, I'm hoping it's the same person just name changing.

Otherwise more than one of them post among us 😱

Chloemol · 20/12/2020 13:16

There are over 9m people living in London, I hardly think those leaving, which I dont agree with, would total more than a few thousand, so hardly a mass evacuation

It’s scaremongering headlines

yomellamoHelly · 20/12/2020 13:19

I don't think any of those people would have been able to get on a train without having booked tickets in advance. They would have all been sold in advance. I think it just reflects the London population and the fact we're fairly transient with lots of contacts outside the city, so they were just following through with what they already had planned.

TonTonMacoute · 20/12/2020 13:19

I live in Cornwall and we had all this during the first lockdown. Disease-ridden Londoners would swarm down here to their second homes and infect us all and all our old people would die.

Then it was horrible holiday makers surging in crowds through the narrow streets of our picturesque fishing villages.

In spite of all that we have the lowest infection rates in the country.

Take care, be sensible and stop reading the MSM, that's my advice!

rollinggreenhills · 20/12/2020 13:19

Daily Fail article... nah, not going to open that pile of shite.

eddiemairswife · 20/12/2020 13:20

I read a sane newspaper first thing, and then the Daily Mail to see the latest fairy stories.

dodobookends · 20/12/2020 13:20

There were probably quite a few people who had already bought train tickets for yesterday anyway.

ComDummings · 20/12/2020 13:21

What a pile of shite

NotMeekNotObedient · 20/12/2020 13:22

Aquatinace of mine was boasting about getting out of London last night on facebook Hmm. Though she also went on several holidays this year - I asked her how did she get insurance to cover covid and she looked at me blankly. Most people will have the common sense to stay I think.

Sgtmajormummy · 20/12/2020 13:25

The Daily Mail needs to call it an Exodus, not an evacuation.
But that would be a hard word for most of its readers.

maddiemookins16mum · 20/12/2020 13:26

Feck off with your ridiculous thread title for a start.

Tier4christmas · 20/12/2020 13:26

The Daily Mail is not a reliable news source.

BearSoFair · 20/12/2020 13:27

Hardly a mass evacuation...even if 90,000 people 'fled' that would be just 1% of London's population.

AccidentallyOnSanta · 20/12/2020 13:28

Doesn't count as an Exodus either given the population of London.
Quartz2208 · 20/12/2020 13:30

Where are they going though? If you are leaving you must have somewhere to go which surely means they are returning home to relatives (parents perhaps)

No one is just going to get on a train without anywhere to go?

Elephant4 · 20/12/2020 13:30

OP - are you aware that only stupid people read the Daily Mail?

SymphonyofShadows · 20/12/2020 13:31

How is it ‘mass’? Are you the “you mark my words” OP too? Just bugger off with your Londoner bashing, it was more likely to be a ‘mass’ of northerners pissing off home.

TolstoyAteMyHamster · 20/12/2020 13:31

I can confirm our zone 2 London park is as busy as ever, although everyone appears to be in family groups or pairs. Doesn’t appear to have been an exodus based on cars on our street either. And while my observations don’t make for hard data it’s a perfectly good counterpoint to the “London evacuation” narrative I keep seeing here.

darklady64 · 20/12/2020 13:31

Some people at a London train station does not make them all "Londoners". How many of them are students/workers/visitors who normally live in the north just returning home before the restrictions kick in? If all those people in the picture really are actual Londoners, i.e. people that were born in London and whose homes and families are in London, then where exactly are they going to go when they get "north"? Or are they just going to wander the streets of insert name of northern town here like refugees going "cor blimey guvner. Spare a copper for a cheeky cockney." Just calm down.

JinglingHellsBells · 20/12/2020 13:33

Mass evacuation? You know there are 12 million in London?

Fromage · 20/12/2020 13:33

I've not clicked the link but I'm laughing at the thought of anyone taking the frothy rantings of a bunch of racist misogynists to be anything other than paranoid hysterical drama llama stupidity.

Still, makes a change from Brown Immigrant People Will Steal Your Daughters And Make Your Sons Woofters And Give Our Beloved Queen Cancer. You know, their usual sort of headline. Daily heil hacks must be so excited by a new way of whipping up panic they can barely type for wanking.
