Christmas star/star of David decoration

Out walking yesterday we passed a house with a beautiful wreath on the door made of sticks, wound with ribbon and decorated with pine cones in the shake of a star. I've been collecting sticks to make a Christmas tree wall decoration but have lost the enthusiasm and time. The star would be a perfect alternative. Dd pointed out that it's a Star of David as is 6 pointed and wouldn't be appropriate for us to have as we are catholic. I hadn't even realised it was a Star of David as was just admiring it. I said they Jesus was Jewish so I'm not sure it would be inappropriate to have one but I'm not sure how. I would want to offend anyone.,

Would it be inappropriate?

I’m just the first random Jew reading this thread but it wouldn’t offend me. Someone hotter on liturgy might have a view on the importance of the symbol etc but I don’t think more ordinary people would.

Do a five pointed star if you're worried?

Aprilx · 20/12/2020 09:39

Just do the usual five pointed Christmas star.

What’s wrong with a pentagram?

GinAtMerlottes · 20/12/2020 09:47

I’m Jewish. There are loads of Star of David decorations etc out there, have always found it interesting but not offensive. I’d say go for it if you want.

I'm Anglo-Catholic and I'd love the Star of David as part of my decorations. It would remind me of a lovely Jewish friend Blush

Maybe a pentagram would offend the Satanists Grin

ConcreteUnderpants · 20/12/2020 10:05

Another Jew here....go for it! I think they are much prettier than pentagrams anyway!

Another Catholic here, I can't see why it matters, it's a more attractive shape. I can't see many people being offended by it.

It would be inside and no one ever comes here normally let alone this past year so there isn't anyone to be offended but I get worried about appropriating things.
