Same reason as Michael Caine I’d guess. When he was asked if he’d seen the abysmal Jaws the Revenge he was in he replied “I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific.”

Weirdly at the same time MC was in that shitty jaws film he was also doing Woody Allen films. The 80s was just a weird scatter gun of taste, nobody knew what was going to work out.
