Facebook Marketplace Annoyances. They are BU!

I like selling stuff on marketplace, it's great to make spare cash.

But. The most annoying things are:

'Bundle of girls clothes. Don't have time to take pics. Alongside pic of black rubbish bag'. Who would buy this?

'Don't want the money, just looking for penny's for daughters piggy bank'. Sure.

'No time wasters' as if someone is going to think, 'oh I would like to comment but better not as I'm a time waster'!

@pantsville

Photos of items for same on filthy carpets covered in bits, maybe with an overflowing bin the the background or something. You can almost smell the picture.

The blunt, one-word-answer way of communicating. When people grunt like cavemen as they make the deal
“hm”
“5a”
“inbox”
Just write normally... what the fuck?

“Needs a wipe down”... it’s covered in what looks like literal shit.

People trying to sell hand made stuff where no skill is involved, like glueing 6 wispas into the shape of a bouquet and charging £25 quid for it. Then as if that’s not bad enough, the seller communicates in the completely charmless caveman grunt manner described above. How they do any business like this is a complete mystery.

Ah yes, the myriad of homemade 'hampers' with shite from Poundland and all for the bargain price of £25. No thanks!
Catnuzzle · 20/12/2020 06:10

@LuckyNumberThirteen, yes I did see that one too, thought WTF!!!!!

LuckyNumberThirteen · 20/12/2020 07:33

@Catnuzzle

I wonder if we know each other! 🤣

Belledan1 · 20/12/2020 07:44

I put a free bike on local neighbour site for 4 year old. Hardly used as son preferred scooter at the time. Said would deliver local. Said may need new chain or just fixing. Got someone contact me and said would take it if fitted chain.i said no. She also very specific if she had it she wanted it delivered to a relatives who was 10 miles away. Someone did take it and picked it up and texted me saying chain was ok and thanks. The other person messaged me when I had marked it had gone saying how disappointed she was I never let her have it.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 20/12/2020 07:56

I advertised a table this week and someone arranged to pick it up today, but has now deleted the conversation we had.

NotOfThisWorld · 20/12/2020 08:47

Oh god I have one I'd forgotten I had a big pile of toddler's books I was giving away for free. Took a photo of the pile (they were just very normal hard back toddler books but quite a lot of them and all in good condition) and said I'd be happy to deliver. Someone said yes please. So I delivered them to her and thought nothing of it. A month later she messaged me on Facebook to say her kids had finished reading the books now and didn't like all of them so could I take them back because she doesn't have the space for them! There's a place to donate books at the post office which is a 5 minute walk from where she lives where she could just dump them but she wanted me to go round to her flat and collect the books she was finished with!

Dh put our TV stand on gumtree for free. A guy messaged saying he was interested and dh arranged a collection date. Guy never came and didn't respond when we tried to get into contact. Dh took it to the dump four weeks later. The man then messaged 6 weeks after the original post saying he was coming to pick it up, dh told him he couldn't as it was no longer here. The idiot called dh a wanker for saying it was still available, I responded inkind (dh is very polite) and told him that it was available 6 weeks ago and he had plenty of time to answer his phone, the post clearly stated if it don't get picked up in a fortnight it would be going to the dump. I think he was just a time waster and will not be putting anything on gumtree free again.

LunarSea · 20/12/2020 09:38

We have one of those community gifting pages too. Some people are great and grateful for what's offered, but some do have a very entitled attitude. Offer a box full of kids clothes in a certain size - open that they've been stored a while in the attic so although they were clean and folded when put there they might want to run through a washing machine just to freshen up. "Can you take pictures of each one so I can choose" (err, no, if I had time to do that I'd have put them on a selling site). "Can you wash them in non-bio and iron them for me?". "I'll have them" - followed by "I don't drive, so you'll have to deliver" (although listed as "collect from") - so I say where are you, if it's near I may be able to drop off when passing" - they're 20 miles away and not even in the town the gifting group covers! "Is it new? I only want new things."
And even "How much do you think it would sell for on Ebay?"

Mostly now I just stick smaller things in the attic and assume that one day car boots will start up again, and just offer in response to wanted ads.

ProbablyFault · 20/12/2020 09:44

😄 this thread - I spend far too much time nosying on FB marketplace, and have seen most of this behaviour.

Soubriquet · 20/12/2020 09:58

I think the worst was when we was giving away a sky remote

One guy wanted it, and demanded we dropped it off

I refused as I didn’t drive and dh was about to leave for work.

But he really really needed it, but didn’t want to come and get it himself as he was about to go to bed Hmm

No amount of refusing to take it to him would shift his arse and he got more and more abusive.

Eventually told him to fuck off, we was not going to give it to him and blocked him.

Another bloke messaged not long after, turned up 10 mins after that, said thank you and even gave me a bag of sweets for my children!

Nowaynothappening · 20/12/2020 10:00

Lots of ‘needs a clean’. So gross selling something dirty expecting the person to just be grateful they’ve bought your dirty cast off’s for next to nothing. Give it a bloody wipe, stop being lazy.

Furrybutts · 20/12/2020 10:20

Had cleaned out my cupboards and listed a large amount of different, well known brand cleaning products for free on my local site.
I stated all the products were half full or more.
Had so many messages from people asking specific questions like ' which fragrance is the Flash floor cleaner?' or ' is the Pledge the one with beeswax in it?'
Wtf?? Do you need the products or not?!!!

Danni91 · 20/12/2020 11:00

Dunno if its been said but im always losing my mind at people who say ' never been worn' whilst rocking the exact clothes / shoes they are saying haven't left the box!

Rubinia · 20/12/2020 11:10

I had a CF offer me £10 for something listed for £50. Errr that'll be a no then.
Some other bloke arranged to collect something I was giving away for free. Didn't show. Texted later saying I'm coming tonight at 6pm. 6pm came and went. At 11pm he texted I'm coming now.
I told him not to bother and he tried to argue with me. Super strange!!

6demandingchildren · 20/12/2020 11:52

I was selling a pc, some bloke asked me if I would swap it for a BMX.
I said no,
He said but it's worth more that the pc
I told him to sell it and use the money to buy the pc
He told me it would be easier for him if we just did a straight swap.........

BubblyBarbara · 20/12/2020 12:17

Price is listed as £12345.67 or £9999.99 but then the actual price is in the item listing.

dancinfeet · 20/12/2020 12:24

Best one I saw this week- a grinch onesie in adult size. Someone had commented underneath, ''send it to Boris'. I don't mind market place but people who want to collect whilst I am at work (fine as I'm self employed) annoy me when they don't want to pay in advance for what they are collecting - no I'm not going to either leave the item in reception for you to essentially swipe while I am teaching whilst not leaving the money, or disturb a class that my customers are paying for whilst you faff about counting out the correct change. And no I don't have change for a tenner handy when I'm in the middle of teaching a ballet class! Just pay by BACS / PayPal ffs, or collect from my house if paying cash! Also the ones who want to buy my handmade products but want a specific design not one of the 200+ I already have in stock and want to collect in 45 mins. Yes, because I was sat at home waiting to magic you up the exact design you want at short notice. And no I won't do you a discount if you buy 2 of them when they are only £2 each to begin with, buy 20 and I'll think about it, but not 2, and no that price does not include the postage cost.

ProbablyFault · 20/12/2020 12:42

I often see shoes that the seller claims to have only worn once, but they've clearly been worn a good few times.

ellesbellesxxx · 20/12/2020 13:16

When someone advertises baby things but says“Must be in need”
I hate this.., what defines being in need?
I would hate to message and define why I was in need.

I rarely use one of my local free sites as there are continuous posts about stuff only going to those in need. Pisses me off as they are quite happy for me to list stuff but then not allow / make me feel really guilty for asking for stuff.
Catnuzzle · 20/12/2020 17:20

@LuckyNumberThirteen I don't think so. No-one i know goes on mumsnet (or they don't admit to it!)

Did you see the snowmans blood advert? (Water in a glass if anyone's wondering!)

No, I don't know anyone, either.

No. Show me!

HMSBeagle · 20/12/2020 17:33

Someone was selling a bag of girls clothes that I showed interest in. She said she needed to get it out the loft so good knows what was in the black bag from photo and how long the clothes had been outgrown. Weird.

radioband · 20/12/2020 17:40

Best one I’ve seen is someone selling an item, I think it was a floor lamp. Needs gone, £20 or going to the tip tomorrow! Why not give it away for free 🤷‍♀️

radioband · 20/12/2020 17:44

I also went to pick up a car seat that I wanted to use as a spare for going out with grandparents. When I got there it was filthy! I said I didn’t want it. The lady sent me so many abusive message, offered it me for less money, said she was working full-time and didn’t have time to clean it etc! I did actually feel sorry for her because she was a young girl but I couldn’t take it, it was disgusting.
