Facebook Marketplace Annoyances. They are BU!

I like selling stuff on marketplace, it's great to make spare cash.

But. The most annoying things are:

'Bundle of girls clothes. Don't have time to take pics. Alongside pic of black rubbish bag'. Who would buy this?

'Don't want the money, just looking for penny's for daughters piggy bank'. Sure.

'No time wasters' as if someone is going to think, 'oh I would like to comment but better not as I'm a time waster'!

@StillCoughingandLaughing

I think "needs gone" ("needs done" too) is perfectly acceptable grammar in Scotland. Less so in the Home Counties.

No. It. Isn’t.

I got that one once and it made my blood boil. I live in a town that is half wealthy and the other half is very much areas of poverty.
We have no large clothing stores due to the fact that there is so much shoplifting.

I bought about £400 of Next clothes for my daughter over the space of a year and I tried to sell the whole set for £40 on FB on a local page.
One woman who had kids said "this will never sell.... "you should be giving these away for free or much cheaper coz ppl in this town can't afford it!"

Someone replied to her that if she spent less on tattoos and booze she might be able to get clothes for her kids"
I removed the post at that point! The drama was too much

Oopsticle · 19/12/2020 10:46

I recently gave away a large bundle of books (as local charity shop no longer takes books) with “Free for pickup” on the advert.
I invariably got a “can I deliver” response to which I replied “sorry, advert says free for pickup only”. I then got several more messages then they they can’t drive to which I responded “you can’t read either”.

Snackasaurus · 19/12/2020 10:50

We were selling something for £50. A man asked if it was available, said he'd only pay £30 as he 'needs it Hmm

Buttybach · 19/12/2020 10:51

We went to buy an Ikea kids high sleeper with desk and a wardrobe underneath we knew the dimensions and the condition due to the photos. We went to collect it at 4pm on New Years Eve. The man said they had no plans and neither did we thank god!
We got there and the bed was totally still built and had all the bedding on it and the wardrobe was full of clothes! We spent 2 hours in this mans house demolishing the entire thing and He was cleaning each Piece (to be fair to him!)
We ended up having a large bottle of orange juice and some cookies.

inappropriateraspberry · 19/12/2020 10:58

@Buttybach we bought an IKEA mid sleeper recently, and were amazed! Complete opposite experience to you. The outside of the house was immaculate, so we had high hopes for the bed. It was fully dismantled, all fittings bagged up and they'd even printed off the instructions for building it for us!
It was clean, and we had the mattress too - was like new!
It seems to be one extreme or the other when buying on marketplace.

TrackandTrain · 19/12/2020 11:14

I sold a kitchen item recently, RRP £150, put it on for £50, less than a year old, still as new with instructions.

Someone messaged from 40 miles away saying could they have it for £35 as it would cost them £10 in fuel to collect... No.

Lovely lady collected the next day paying full price.

TrackandTrain · 19/12/2020 11:14

Also offering stupidly low when it's been listed about 2 minutes!

happinessischocolate · 19/12/2020 11:16

Before marketplace, when there was just fb selling sites, the local one had a rule that whoever commented first got first refusal. I put up a post selling a 2 story playhouse, and a woman immediately commented yes please!, so I replied asking when she'd like to come and see it? I got no response, and meanwhile other people were commenting, asking dimensions or just asking to be next in the queue for it. The first woman replied to every single comment saying that she had first dibs and people should stop being so pushy, but still no message to me. The whole post turned into a bun fight so the next day I just advertised it on gumtree and it was gone the following day. I then amended the post to say it had been sold elsewhere and finally received a message from the woman saying I was a cunt and she didn't want my shitty playhouse anyway 🤣🤣

Blurp · 19/12/2020 11:25

"jelly79
I sold a wardrobe and the buyer didn't want to dismantle so they took it out whole. Scratched all down the walls in my hall and then blocked me am they left 😩"
You are one of those annoying people "needs dismantling" no I don't want to spend an hour at your house trying to dismantle your wardrobe or trampoline

But sometimes the seller can't help it. I sold a wardrobe once; I could t dismantle it on my own, so I put it in the advert that the buyer would have to dismantle it, and I priced it accordingly. Surely that's fine?

Expecting the buyer to dismantle without telling them in advance is annoying, obviously.

Nameoff · 19/12/2020 11:42

We have a local free stuff fb page. The amount of people who don’t say please and thank you is appalling.
Example:
Giver-Free steam cleaner, great condition.
Person who answers- I’ll take it!
No thank you or please? Rude

FancyPuffin · 19/12/2020 11:55

Have to share my favourite ‘needs a wipe’ item Grin

Might need to click picture to enjoy it in its full glory.

Roominmyhouse · 19/12/2020 12:18

I put some garden furniture on there for free and was explicit that the person collecting it would need a van or large vehicle to do so. I had so many people contact me who clearly had no way of collecting it.

doingitforthefrill · 19/12/2020 12:35

Yes I often see posts saying ‘ordered 2 by mistake, seeing who’s interested before I return’ said item is full price if not more and anyway who the hell orders 2 £100 tablets by mistake instead of 1?!

DeltaFlyer · 19/12/2020 12:40

Fantastic response Grin
Biffbaff · 19/12/2020 12:49

I posted something and had a message, 'I'd be happy to pay [less than half price] for that'.

Yeah, but I'm not 'happy' to accept it! Got full price I asked for from someone else.

MynephewR · 19/12/2020 13:22

I don't really use fb marketplace so nothing comes up on my feed. A while ago I mentioned to my DSis that I was after a particular item and then later that day she sent me a link to someone in my area selling this item on fb marketplace. Okay, fab, I message the guy and he tells me where to collect and that others are interested so please let him know. The location is quite far out for me, not somewhere I could easily nip to while I'm out and about, would have to make a special journey so it would be a few days before I could collect. I thought "aah well if he has others interested then it would be rude to expect him to wait for me to pick it up" so I reply that it's a bit far for me but thank you anyway. My sister then tells me that there is loads of those items for the same price or less on marketplace anyway so I can just get a different one. I've just checked and he still hasn't sold it 😂

If he hadn't have fibbed to try and get me to buy it then I would have come to collect in a couple of days and happily paid the full asking price.

Itsokthanks · 19/12/2020 13:30

'can you deliver'....and then don't bother to tell you where they live so you have no idea if they're local.
'what's your postcode'....it's in the listing!
Just general rudeness, text talk, bad communication.

Hoppinggreen · 19/12/2020 13:42

The worst one I saw was from. CF who posted a long list of things she needed for her baby girl as she had no money etc etc etc. In the SAME advert she also said she was looking for a very expensive specific pair of trainers size 5 and would pay up to £100
Not only a CF but stupid

AllTheCakes · 19/12/2020 14:27

I was selling a large decorative mirror once for £20. It was expensive new so thought it was a fair price for such a large and heavy item. I got a message asking if it was available to which I said it was, then a sob story about being a single mum and asking if I would take a fiver for it. If she was struggling that much I don’t think a mirror should have been a priority.

My favourites adverts are the ones asking for “swaps”. They are always for completely random, like this guy wanting to swap a jet ski for a van. It baffles me that they try to sell the item they have and then buy what they want and instead ask people to do a swap.

Is it OK to say I now love you a little bit for the last bit.
NotImpossible · 19/12/2020 14:51

For a large piece of furniture: " need it gone today as new one is arriving"

I mean, have they only just realised?! How many buyers do they think are ready to pick up in a van in the next 2 hours on a random weekday?

yearinyearout · 19/12/2020 14:52

I put something on the local free fb site. A woman messaged me asking how much I wanted for it, I replied that it was free (pretty obvious since it was on "things for free" you'd assume) she then messaged me back saying "I'll decline your kind offer". Weird.

NotImpossible · 19/12/2020 14:59

Oh, and I HATE the ones who say first commenter gets first refusal. Nope, I'll sell it to whoever I like. Not everyone sits on FB all day and I'm not going to deal with rude , pushy people like the one a PP described above.

ChocolateCherrybomb · 19/12/2020 15:00

Gave away a chest freezer, medium sized and near perfect condition, because we had got a big one and had no room for the old one. Pick up only. Woman messages, "you have saved my life, my freezer just blew up and it is full of steaks, lamb shanks and salmon". Fair enough, perfect, glad to be in a position to save someone a lot of money by not having to waste food. She showed up, all chatty and happy, said her car was " down the road a bit", then she stood back, crossed her arms and started messing with her phone. DH had to lug it down the street, only to find a tiny car (don't know what model). A neighbour came out and helped him to just about get it in the back, sticking out of the boot. She never even said thanks, goodbye nor kiss my arse, just got in and drove off with her nose in the air.
