To think this is really romantic

I just saw this story pop up on my suggestions, a rather nice story from the DF in my opinion. People may obviously have their complaints but I think this is such a romantic thing to do. Yes it was stupid and reckless but so many of us do stupid things for love. Blush Grin

Rightfully he’s locked up. Not only did he put his own life in jeopardy but also potentially those that had to go out searching for him. Then there’s the cost of the search. Plus the whole covid rules and laws

Bloody idiot

I hope they keep him locked up until he can pay for the search and his stay in jail. Then send him straight back home (and ensure he pays for that too).

RubyFakeLips · 18/12/2020 13:16

I guess there's something sort of charming about it. I'd probably be quite impressed he was so very keen to see me.

Unfortunately though, he's clearly a complete wally and as I think they've only been together a couple of months I would see this as a classic mn Red Flag!

What other impulsive, stupid decisions are ahead...

Brighterthansunflowers · 18/12/2020 13:18

Just from the title of the article YABU

It sounds like an incredibly stupid and dangerous attention seeking stunt which put other people’s lives at risk if he’d needed rescuing

Not romantic in the slightest

Sn0tnose · 18/12/2020 13:18

He’s a selfish, irresponsible, thoughtless dickhead.

ThreeLadsPointingAtAStar · 18/12/2020 13:22

Reckless and thoughtless rather than romantic.
If I'd been her it would also have been the ultimate deterrent

Romantic would have been to tell her that even though they can't be together he will wait (and to actually do it)
Romantic would be to send her a thoughtful carefully chosen gift
Romantic would be flowers and a card saying he can't wait until they can be together again.

HopeAndDriftWood · 18/12/2020 13:23

I had this chat with DH yesterday.

Possibly it may have been romantic if he had just travelled there and stayed in her house...

But they went clubbing, twice, putting other people in danger. That’s not romantic.

And they had only known each other for a few months, and he’s been denied permission to go and visit, twice.

Overall it just makes him sound like a fool who doesn’t think through his actions and is happy to take stupid risks, rather than a romantic who couldn’t bear to be away from his partner and just wanted to be with her.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 18/12/2020 13:28

Thats quite pathetic to be honest. What an idiot.

daisypond · 18/12/2020 13:37

I don’t think it’s romantic. It’s just stupid and reckless. I’d be appalled and ashamed if It was the GF and would dump him

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/12/2020 13:37

Er, no it's not romantic. It's ridiculous. I'd have told him to turn around and fuck back off.

Annasgirl · 18/12/2020 13:37

@Letmegoplease

Yes it was stupid. But the gesture of him travelling the Irish Sea on a Jet ski to see his gf is really romantic to me. If I was the gf is wouldn’t complain. I can only imagine how hard the pandemic has been for couples who are live far from each other but would manage in the normal times to meet up.

I would be shagging my DH all day if he did something like for me. I wouldn’t care if I ended catching COVID in the process. Grin

Well obviously neither you nor anyone you love works in the health service in Northern Ireland then. I have and I can tell you, no one in the emergency services is calling this guy a romantic.
Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/12/2020 13:41

And he's got kids. What a shit father.

Stinkerbells · 18/12/2020 13:42

I thought it was hopelessly romantic and made my heart melt when I read it, probably something my DH would do haha, although if he did I’d prob bollock him for putting his life at risk.

Do think his sentence was extremely harsh. Yes he might be a covidiot and potentially have put lives at risk but he did have a negative test 4 days before so he did try to be somewhat responsible in that sense and in my humble opinion didn’t deserve prison. Maybe a big fine.

AuntyPasta · 18/12/2020 13:44

If he were 19 or 20 I might think it was romantic (though stupid). He’s 28. I’d expect more sense.

andawaywego · 18/12/2020 13:45

To be honest, it just reminded me of this quote from Valerie Solanas:

“Eaten up with guilt, shame, fears and insecurities and obtaining, if he's lucky, a barely perceptible physical feeling, the male is, nonetheless, obsessed with screwing; he'll swim a river of snot, wade nostril-deep through a mile of vomit, if he thinks there'll be a friendly pussy awaiting him."

Lurleene · 18/12/2020 13:45

This puts me in mind of a work by the artist Jenny Holzer.

'Expiring for love is beautiful, but stupid'.

TatianaBis · 18/12/2020 13:47

I think the Australian phrase is apt: “his balls are bigger than his brains”.

DisgruntledPelican · 18/12/2020 13:51

The covid risk is probably the least riskiest thing in this whole mess. They both sound as dumb as each other tbh.

ConcernedAboutWarrington · 18/12/2020 13:51

He should be sent the bill by the authorities.

Just because you 'can', doesn't mean you should.

I really think a lot of people have lost all sense of danger and self respect.

Idiot. And a shit dad to boot.

NorbertMeubles · 18/12/2020 13:51

Previous poster has summed him up perfectly as pathetic. How anyone would want to shag him is beyond me. He is thick as mince and you seriously need to raise your standards if he is what gets you in the mood.

thepeopleversuswork · 18/12/2020 13:53

Nope.

He's a reckless dickhead who was willing to risk his own life and others for a shag and she's thick as pigshit if she can't see that.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/12/2020 13:54

Also he's only met her once before in September when he was there for work apparently! So it's hardly an established relationship.

Marvelle · 18/12/2020 14:01

twat!

and OP for linking to the daily shit

ImPrincessAurora · 18/12/2020 14:01

What a prick.
Romantic? More like desperate losers.

TheTrashBagIsOursCmonTrashBag · 18/12/2020 14:02

Romantic? Really? Having read the article the girlfriend is apparently impressed and says he is a hero- he’s lucky her standards are nice and low. I think the only heroes in this story are the coast guard team who went out looking for him in shitty weather incase he’d come to harm. He’s an absolute knob. And a father apparently. So on top of being a selfish twat who’s now in prison for several weeks and wasted a lot of time and resources searching for him while he was on a night out and getting his end away, he won’t be seeing his kids for weeks or providing for them in any way. Like I said, he’s a knob.

SauvignonBlanche · 18/12/2020 14:04

Total bellend!
