Mistake at work - help please!

I had a client who owes £500 for work carried out, instead I sent the money to the wrong place for £1100.

I made this mistake an hour ago so will speak to the merchant first thing but assuming I can't reverse it, will take days to refund back to the client.

I will explain all to the client tomorrow, process the refund ASAP and offer a gesture of goodwill of £50.

Is this reasonable? I guess I'm just looking for someone to say it'll be fine in the end although I think it won't 😬

Btw I'm self employed so job isn't on the line but I just feel terrible

So based on your latest above,, somebody rang in to make a payment of £500, recited their long card number, but you rang through a different persons card number, expiry and CV code and for £1100 not £500?

How I'm picturing it now is that the OP has the clients bank details/card info, went into the wrong system on her computer and used those details to buy service A at cost of £1100 from supplier Z when she meant to pay herself £500 for service B

I get that OP doesn't want to say what industry she works in but posters would understand it better if they knew what she was buying

No, I think it was clarified that she used the details to pay supplier Y £1100 when she meant to pay supplier Z £500. The £500 the client also owes OP is separate.

But who knows.

I can’t quite believe that anyone is struggling to understand this, the OP has clarified if you read her updates....

I can't see where she says that there are two different lots of £500 but who can tell Grin

@ShirleyPhallus would you summarise for those of us who still don't get it please?
