God, I completely misread this and was imagining some vitriolic authority figure performing a Handmaid's Tale-style punishment on the unfortunate Joseph!

I'm a big fan of the weird and wonderful things we have to say to children sometimes.

I was also thinking nativity, I was trying to think of a Biblical reference, “Bring your fish to me, and I shall...”
