What's Christmas looking like in your house?

We were supposed to be off to Greece to spend Christmas with Grandparents Sad

Instead, it will be just me, ex DP and 2 dc. Dc will wake us up at silly o'clock to open presents. Breakfast will be smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and mimosas, chocolate waffles for the kids.

Then we'll either go for a walk if it's nice, or watch a cheesy movie. Dinner will be spatchcocked Turkey, stuffed tomatoes and peppers, roast potatoes, and salad.

After dinner I'll be downing margaritas and watching Netflix until bedtime.

It will just be me and my husband. It will mostly be a normal day, but we will have a roast and maybe some nice chocolate if someone gifts them to us. I'll watch call the midwife in the evening.

MrsDThomas · 16/12/2020 20:24

Dh and 3 teen kids. Traditional Christmas lunch, prosecco and a walk. But ill try to fit in a 5k run in the morning, I usually do.

Just cancelled my new year in center parcs. Thanks Drakeford 😡

GintyMcGinty · 16/12/2020 20:36

My parents, sister and her partner, me and husband and 4 children.

Pretty normal for us.

What we will miss is no Hogmanay and seeing the rest of the family then.

nancybotwinbloom · 16/12/2020 20:41

Going to my mums who is my bubble.

So mum dad sis, DH, our kids.

Go early afternoon, it will be relaxed as in it's served when it's ready then we will play cards against humanity probably while the kids are having screen time.

nancybotwinbloom · 16/12/2020 20:42

Oh and the dog is coming so a walk at some point

shrill · 16/12/2020 20:43

We are not religious and as two AC will be alone throughout Christmas and the new year and we cannot visit our elderly parents who live hours away, we have decided not to have any Christmas this year. Instead when we can all be together we will celebrate that. Hopefully on a warm sunny day or even next December 2021 if that's how it has to be.

lljkk · 16/12/2020 20:43

Like an ordinary Friday. Friend might cook me a meal.
At this point, I have zero idea what DC or DH are doing.

TheFairyCaravan · 16/12/2020 20:50

DS1 is coming home on leave on Friday. He’s in the army, and single, so he’s in a bubble with us. He’s here until January for now, but things can turn on a sixpence at a minute’s notice.

DS2, who is a nurse, has managed to swap some shifts and is coming home after his shift in A&E on 23rd with DDIL, staying for the 24th which is his birthday, then going back and they’re both working Christmas Day. They’ve been vaccinated this week.

JorisBonson · 16/12/2020 20:54

Me and DH. Our first married Christmas!

Presents first thing, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs then get into dresses and shirts. Oysters and champagne about midday. General bimbling about (with more champagne), beef wellington at about 4pm. Lots of good red wine, music, games, laughing, a few family zooms.

I'm really excited.

Calmandmeasured1 · 16/12/2020 20:55

Only our household of 3. No breakfast as saving ourselves for the main event (full, traditional Christmas lunch). Off to Gardens of Remembrance with flowers and wreaths for our deceased loved ones then back home to prepare lunch.
We watch each person open their presents after lunch but not sure about afterwards as we normally share the day with other family members and play charades and other games whilst drinking. Might watch the Queen's speech and a film(s) for a change.

Calmandmeasured1 · 16/12/2020 20:57

@JorisBonson

I love the word 'bimbling'. Grin

Holothane · 16/12/2020 21:00

Very cosy just us two, we have our meal in the evening, just laze about call the midwife that’s it as far as tv is concerned. Loads of carols Christmas Eve.

nancybotwinbloom · 16/12/2020 21:07

@JorisBonson sounds perfect

Serin · 16/12/2020 21:07

The FairyCaravan
You must be very proud of your lads.

We are having our inlaws over on 23rd and 24th, all of us work in health or education and all of us have had covid so a low risk of spreading it really.

We were due to have my DM over on 25th but she lives with my sisters family and has decided to stay there. (My vegetables are always underdone apparently Grin).

Nowaynothappening · 16/12/2020 21:08

DC usually wake us up at 5am, don’t think they’ve ever made it to 6...
Rush downstairs to open presents which usually takes 45 mins or so.
DH sticks the coffee machine on and makes us one.
I then make breakfast which is always freshly baked croissants, cinnamon rolls and pain au chocolat with fresh juice from the milkman.
I typically start flapping around in the kitchen from 11am onwards making the dinner. Vegan turkey, creamy leek strudel, veggie pigs in blankets, roasties, honey roasted
veggies, stuffing, cauliflower cheese and potato dauphinois. We don’t tend to eat lunch because dinner is so filling but might pass the DC some cheese and crackers to keep them quiet Grin. Pull some crackers before we eat then crack on. Always blasting cheesy Christmas music whilst I’m cooking too, usually sipping a G&T or two.
Play a few board games after dinner before the DC go to bed.
DH and I chill together before collapsing at about 9 pm - we’re old now Grin.

Nowaynothappening · 16/12/2020 21:09

Oh and I’m making knickerbocker glory’s for dessert this year at DC’s request. Bought all sorts of toppings and ice cream glasses too plus little cake sparklers to stick in the top.

BlueSpruce · 16/12/2020 21:09

Just me, DH and two teens. Fairly low key.
By the sea, so we’ll get a walk on the beach in fairly early I think, after presents. Then smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, champagne for DH, hot chocolate for me and the kids.
Lazy day of TV, music, dancing about like eejits, cooking & calls to family. Turkey & ham around 4pm. Games and a film and a cheeseboard in the evening.

Really looking forward to it.

MaverickDanger · 16/12/2020 21:11

DH and I and hopefully our newborn DS, whenever he decides to make an appearance.

Potentially need to make plans for the food delivery and turkey collection on 23rd & 24th if he still hasn’t arrived after the weekend, possibly rope in a neighbour to be on call.

Kumquatsquash · 16/12/2020 21:16

@Nowaynothappening What is the vegan turkey? I'm vegan but the dc want turkey so if there is something vegan I can substitute that would be awesome!

Different this year. Normally we go to Christingle on Christmas Eve and have drinks with friends, then Christmas Day is grandparents here.
This year it’s just the 3 of us- DS is 8. He’ll be awake early- 6.30. Stockings in bed, downstairs for main present. Pancakes for breakfast, bath/ shower. We’re going to go for a walk and end up on my parents patio for champagne and mince pies.
Home. Rest of the day will be Lego and films, maybe a board game. DS wants pizza. DH and I are having salmon en croute.
We’re seeing grandparents after Christmas for a meal once we’ve isolated for 10 days.

MinnieMountain · 16/12/2020 21:38

MIL will be staying over. DS will probably charge down to her room as soon as he’s opened his stocking, so DH and I will snooze/have coffee.

3 different breakfasts, then presents, a walk and eat around 3pm.

Lavanderrose · 16/12/2020 21:42

Presents and a freshly-poured glass of chilled champagne in the morning followed by smoked salmon canapés. A stroll around the grounds, whilst awaiting the fire to get going, gather in the drawing room to sing carols together, followed by an extravagant Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. Relax with some some hot cocoa and expensive chocolates, and watch a festive film.
Only to Wake up to with a birds nest for hair at 3 in the afternoon from this dream and eat an out of date mince pie.

nancybotwinbloom · 16/12/2020 21:52

@lljkk I hope you have a lovely meal with your friend

user423888 · 16/12/2020 22:06

Loving all the not-so-sly boasting on this thread.

freshly-poured glass of chilled champagne
As opposed to poured the day before?

I'll have a lovely lie-in, wake up, give dc breakfast then begin putting everything in the oven to pick at throughout the day (no proper sit-down meal), watch Xmas films and eat mine and dc's weight in chocolate.

Lavanderrose · 16/12/2020 22:10

Lol I meant to actually say “I will then wake up from this dream with a birds nest for hair at 3pm in the afternoon and eat an out of date mince pie”. Oh, and I may also attempt to cook the massive turkery that is now not needed. Thank you Very much Covid!
