I found a partial row of eyelashes in my sausage! 🤢
I thought it was a dog hair initially and pulled to reveal the horror..

Not that I was unaware sausage was once a living, breathing pig or anything, but a sausage doesn’t really bear much resemblance to the animal so you don’t tend to think about it.
The sight of the lashes has just repulsed me to the core.

Even though that’s probably so stupid because it was once a pig, so obviously things like that will be blended into it but still.

After I’ve bought all the pigs in blankets and meat filled stuffing and gammon and bacon and sprouts in preparation for Christmas 😖

Got to try and find some alternatives for myself now...

More than a quarter of the country will have a meat free option at Christmas this year is a statistic I saw!

There are some really good ones to be had this year too. I always make the Mushroom Wellington by Bosh (on Facebook) but you can get lots of pre-made stuff too.

VicMackey · 15/12/2020 18:52

@Hotchocolatewithcream
We’re they the pigs lashes or possibly from the production person (false lashes I mean) either way that’s very off putting. Have you taken a photo and complained and what brand were they btw?

ImNotMeImSomeoneElse · 15/12/2020 18:54

Of course Yanbu. You can choose to be vegetarian for any reason at all.

Veeg34 · 15/12/2020 18:54

Veggie since as long as I can remember and now 5 years vegan! Best thing I’ve ever done. Join vegan Facebook groups ect for recipes, there’s not much you can’t veganise!

PrincessNutNutRoast · 15/12/2020 18:56

My username and I encourage you to join us. We really do have lovely food, even and especially at Christmas.

JumpLeadsForTwo · 15/12/2020 18:56

Richmond meat free sausages are really good (and we've tried a few different ones) if you are after an alternative

Hello, I found those massively salty and i put extra salt on peanuts so I’m not averse to salt, perhaps I had a bad batch as I see a lot of praise for them. I like Linda’s red onion and rosemary ones.
Cautionsharpblade · 15/12/2020 18:59

Oh man that’s grim. I’d go veggie if I found that in a sausie.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 15/12/2020 19:02

Yanbu, I gave up meat last Christmas, have not missed it.

Suzi888 · 15/12/2020 19:07

YANBU that’s grim! Though don’t they put literally every part of an animal in a sausage?! it could’ve been worse Hmm

Cautionsharpblade · 15/12/2020 19:10

I sometimes wonder about cancerous tumours in meat. It’s not checked, is it? I guess people must be eating them.

NoMeatIsHumane · 15/12/2020 19:14

YANBU. These beautiful animals deserve so much more. Giving up meat and dairy is the best thing I've ever done.

Yes they do apparently ..it’s termed ‘mechanically recovered meat’ so they can legitimately label the contents as whatever percentage meat. I have read it’s eyelids and the tendons, every last ounce of carcass they can recover. It goes in a machine like a bladed spinner after all the more ‘acceptable’ cuts have been removed. 🐖
HaHaVeryBunny · 15/12/2020 19:20

Yeah, went veggie a few years ago and never missed meat since. The first month was the hardest but after that it was easy and l used to love my meat, with all takeaways etc.
It's all about the flavours, herbs and spices now.
I'm lucky enough to live in a first world country, l don't need to eat meat to stay healthy so why would l make a sentient animal suffer for my lust for meat.

hashbrownsandwich · 15/12/2020 19:20

I had a very similar revelation aged 5 involving a sausage and a pig eyeball. I've never eaten meat since.

That is vile...I feel queasy reading this thread

How do you fancy this for Christmas, OP?

If they were still in a row I'd imagine they're false lashes.

SquishSquashSqueeze · 15/12/2020 19:30

🤢 Plant Pioneers range by Sainsbury's if you want a lazy meat free Christmas!

SlopesOff · 15/12/2020 19:36

I miss meat but always think about the eyeballs, lips, and noses. Not because of a yuck feeling but because they were living creatures and I care (too much maybe). Noses and snouts are so cute. Tails too.

I buy Cauldron sausages.

theneverendinglaundry · 15/12/2020 19:37

Go for it OP! I've been pretty much meat free for a year now.

I can recommend Quorn Roast for your roast dinners, and Beyond Burgers are amazing!

My mum used to say ‘everything but the squeak’ went into sausages...
Hotchocolatewithcream · 15/12/2020 19:39

It was a row of maybe 6 or 7 light coloured lashes attached to what looked very much like skin.
I imagine the rest of the eye got grounded and that bit for whatever reason didn’t...
