A friend said I am chubby

I have nc for this.

So, just been out for a walk with my friend and she's one of those friends that tells it how it is. She's very open and honest about things and it's one of my favourite traits about her. We were having a good old chat about life etc and then I told her how I was on a diet as I'm trying to lose about 7 pounds. We spoke about it for a bit and then I asked her "Be honest, do you think I'm fat?" and she replied "No, your definitely not fat, just a little chubby". I want to point out, I'm not offended in anyway, I wouldn't of asked her otherwise because I knew she'd be honest and I also know I need to lose weight, hence me on a diet. But, is she trying to be a little polite by saying that? Is chubby just a nicer way of putting it?

@PillowPrincess

Give your head a wobble.

Some fatties have toned bodies that are rock hard and solid. Some skinnies have loose skin or low muscle tone.

Errr have you got an example of a "fattie" with a "toned rock hard body"?

Cause I'm not buying it

Inthemuckheap · 15/12/2020 15:48

For goodness sake, you told her you were on a diet; you asked her a direct question as you appreciate her honesty; she answers kindly and now you feel that you need to post on here about it? Chubby is a nice way of saying a little bit overweight.

Do give your head a wobble.

PillowPrincess · 15/12/2020 15:50

I have often seen black women who are a size 14, 16, 18 walking nothing jiggles and a size 8 and wobbly.

I was watching iron man or strongest man competition and the men were fucking huge, definitely fat, like rugby guys. But fat and toned.

Im surprised im asked to give examples, like where do you live that you dont see variety in bodies?!

randomer · 15/12/2020 15:54

Oh go on, give us all a laugh/start WW3...what is your height and weight?

Almostslimjim · 15/12/2020 15:57

If you wobble then you’re probably fat.

Nah - I wobbled at a BMI of 20. I was just untoned.

TheSilentStars · 15/12/2020 15:57

You said you need to lose half a stone.
You asked your friend.
She confirmed.
Now you're insulted.
Confused

Cheeseandwin5 · 15/12/2020 15:58

I am a bit confused about the what you are asking.
I suppose chubby is the same as fat in some ways but in the end they mean the same thing. You need to lose weight.
Are you thinking that she meant you need to lose more than seven pounds, Is that your concern? If so I would just lose the 7 pounds and decided how you feel from there.

beingajen · 15/12/2020 16:00

I reckon she said it the way I would (although at the same time I would have been wishing you hadn't asked). So I would mean by this that...sure there is some weight you could lose, but you're not unhealthy or unattractive, and don't go too far.

Bluntness100 · 15/12/2020 16:00

What are you asking, if she thinks you’re fat and was just being polite? Only you know her so only you can answer this.

Havenly · 15/12/2020 16:01

I despise people who think "telling it like it is" is a positive attribute. To me, they lack emotional intelligence. They probably think being "sassy" is a compliment.

Dave35 · 15/12/2020 16:02

Nothing wrong with a bit of chubby x

VettiyaIruken · 15/12/2020 16:03

Chubby is a bit fat but not very fat.

I much prefer people who are honest if you ask them for honesty.

Koffeekake · 15/12/2020 16:03

@pillow if someone is a size 18 and doesn't wobble a little when they walk they are wearing shapewear 🤣

cdtaylornats · 15/12/2020 16:09

Built for comfort not speed.

OllyBJolly · 15/12/2020 16:10

If you wobble then you’re probably fat

I'm size 8/10, visible ribs & hip bones, and I wobble Confused

DrManhattan · 15/12/2020 16:10

Confused by this - what did you expect her to say and what an impolite question to ask someone.

WhoseThatGirl · 15/12/2020 16:13

Agree that it was a horrible question to ask a friend. Chubby/fat means different things to different people.

Nunoftheother · 15/12/2020 16:13

If you wobble then you're probably fat.

Give your head a wobble.

So does that mean that in order to give your head a wobble you have to have a fat head?

lazylinguist · 15/12/2020 16:14

I don't understand what you're asking. Chubby just means a bit fat. You asked her and she told you.

borntobequiet · 15/12/2020 16:15

If your head wobbles it’s probably not very toned.

Viviennemary · 15/12/2020 16:18

I think chubby is worse than fat.

MereDintofPandiculation · 15/12/2020 16:20

Chubby is a bit well-padded. Fat is when there is obvious excess flesh, and if you're only trying to lose 7lbs, I doubt whether you're fat.

Deadringer · 15/12/2020 16:20

If you only have 7 pounds to lose i wouldn't think you are in chubby territory. Unless your are denial territory.

Tightwad2020 · 15/12/2020 16:24

Agree that this line of questioning is putting a friend in a tricky position, OP, but few of us manage to get through life without the occasional need of a reassuring/validating verbal hug, so don't worry about it.

Anyway, you might have landed with a friend like one of my teen buddies, who regularly used to tell me that I 'looked a bit porky'. She came from a family of small-boned, wiry types, and viewed her inherited body shape as some sort of achievement.

Good luck with your diet - remember, small and sustainable changes!

HoofHeartedSanta · 15/12/2020 16:24

Your friend did not start the conversation, you asked someone for their famously unfiltered opinion - now you are questioning the outcome !
