To fucking hate printers? (A rant about HP Instant Ink)

Trying to print a returns label with my shit goblin of a printer. It's black and white and the black cartridge is full. The colour one has an issue apparently and so I can't print anything.

I also can't get a replacement cartridge from Instant Ink until I resolve the problem yet I've ran through all of the steps at least three times without them fixing anything and the problem only started with the cartridge they sent me. I've given in and ordered a new colour cartridge because I'm so frustrated.

Why are printers so fucking frustrating?! It's one black and white page ffs!

47 minutes. 47 bastard minutes of my life fighting with the fucker.

To print one page. It can fuck right off. Angry

Another thing mine does for literally NO reason at all is it will just randomly decide to print from the top tray instead of the main one and then complain “no paper”. Well no shit you roaster that’s because I didn’t expect you to start printing from there did I? Now why don’t you have a go at printing from the tray where the FUCKING PAPER IS you waste of fucking electricity.

A little tip given to me a while ago was to take out the non printing ink cartridge, place it in a small amount of warm water (just the part where the ink comes out of) if the ink has dried up inside it can get it going again.
Worked for me!
Often worth checking the dates on the ink boxes too as most have a shelf life

So basically the ink requires a spa before it will work. What. A. Princess.
myhobbyisouting · 15/12/2020 12:20

Yep. Evil bastards

ScalpHelp · 15/12/2020 12:22

I have an Epsom smart printer which has no issues luckily.

Which printer do you have?
Is the document selected to print in black and white?

ScalpHelp · 15/12/2020 12:23

It sounds like the cartridge might not be inserted properly perhaps. Try reinserting it, or see if you can print something with the colour cartridge removed

UnconsideredTrifles · 15/12/2020 12:23

I loathe my printer.

I print loads for work and the machine definitely knows when I'm under pressure. It stops printing, then starts again from the beginning, then stops, then restarts, so if I'm not watching like a hawk I end up with 8 copies of pages 180-153 and the ink's run out again!

As for HP's hatred of competition with ink... Every time I buy compatible ink it changes its settings and suddenly it's 'ink cartridge not installed' over and over again until I have to spend another £120 on their evil half-empty cartridges.

Oh, and it likes to eat any expensive, specialist paper.

If it wasn't so heavy it would have been launched out of the window long ago.

RandomMess · 15/12/2020 12:27

I so miss our office printer WFH Sad

Geppili · 15/12/2020 12:28

My printer makes me murderous. I HATE the fact that if colour is low, I can't print black and white, even with a new black cartridge. It sits there blinking with its horrid red eye, guzzling ink and collecting dust.

TwentyViginti · 15/12/2020 12:28

This will give you a laugh. Printers are featured amongst many other annoying items.

Geppili · 15/12/2020 12:29

I might try printing something today just to up my rage and PMT! 😄

Rainallnight · 15/12/2020 12:31

I fucking hate printers. I don’t understand how the world can be so technologically advanced and they’re so shit.

If it helps, OP, I had the same problem with an instant ink printer and I just bought a new cartridge and used that and it was fine.

Fuckers

QuestionableMouse · 15/12/2020 12:31

HA I WON 😁

It's all down to a faulty colour cartridge. I remembered I still had the old one and stuck that in and it printed.

Now I just need to get Instant Ink to replace the faulty cartridge they sent me.

My livelihood depends on my printer. I always have to have a spare printer in the house. They are demonic. All is fine merrily churning out then...either stops or starts jamming up with paper for no reason. Sometimes I have to print out deathbed wills and that is when the printer breaks.

QuestionableMouse · 15/12/2020 12:37

Oof that's brutal ☹️

OP posts:
BaublesAndBawbags · 15/12/2020 12:37

I hate my printer. HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT.

Right this second, it's printing out a 305 page document WITHOUT the marginal notes that it was perfectly happy to print out 5 mins ago, and it's refusing to let me stop it, now it's started. The job has vanished from the jobs box even while the fucker is printing it, like that fucking annoying bloke at work who sets 350 copies of his orienteering club minutes going on the photocopier then fucks off to Greggs.

Printers are proof of the devil's existence, in my book. They can only have been invented by a malevolent god.

DreadingSeason2020sFinale · 15/12/2020 12:38

Seriously, everyone needs to get one of these. Faulty inks get reset too. You can buy them for different printer brands.

I bought a very small and compact HP Laserjet for about £80 from Argos in 2008. Every five years I buy new toner cartridge for about £20. Never struggle to get it to print.

When I bought it I'd already decided I couldn't be bothered with inkjets any more.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 15/12/2020 13:22

I’m looking for a new small office printer at the mo and have had all the issues mentioned above.🤣. Does anyone have a recommendation? I can’t get over how expensive ink is, it’s putting me off the them all.

RandomLondoner · 15/12/2020 13:24

The one thing I would do differently when I replace it is get a network printer, so my PC doesn't need to be on when DW or DD want to print from their computers.

HawkinsLab · 15/12/2020 13:24

They can definitely sense fear/urgency!

I know this doesn’t help you now, but my best ever investment was a Brother laser printer. I’ve never had a single problem with it, always prints first go and I’ve replaced the toner once in about two years.

Ratonastick · 15/12/2020 13:33

I have a HP. It was the only one in stock in Curry’s when my previous Canon packed up the night before I needed a critical 108 page document. I had just bought a stock of Canon ink so that was nicely timed.

The nice man in curry’s gave me a little discount without me asking. I think he felt the fear when I tore into the shop with the words “I need a printer that I can use now, what have you got?”

I hate my HP with the power of 1000 suns. It puts a line through every scanned page and it keeps telling me to do realignments but the realignment button doesn’t exit and it gets tired so needs a rest if I ask it to print more than 6-7 pages and it knows when I am in a hurry. It’s like a baleful malevolent presence in the corner of the study, just squatting there waiting for its moment to strike.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 15/12/2020 13:47

I currently have an HP and it’s suddenly decided that it can only print black and white-even though it has plenty of color ink- and has given up copying. It just stopped doing it last week, no warning. I now hate it with a passion!

QuestionableMouse · 15/12/2020 19:36

Utter bastards, all of them. Now have to contact instant ink to see if they'll replace the damn thing.
