What happened the paragraph on social media? Why only single sentences?

This is a new thing for me to gripe about. I used to complain about whole blocks of text written in paragraphs with no gaps. Now, on social media, I see that things that progressed 100% the other way. You see it a lot with some lifestyle posting that goes like this.

"One day I was sitting at my desk, ruminating.

Then the phone rang.

It was a loud ring.

I picked it up to answer it.

There was a voice at the other end.

It was a man's voice"

And so on. I guess this is being all done for effect, but it's becoming really prevalent. Anyone else notice this. AIBU to find it annoying?

This has been around for a while. It’s almost like they’re writing a bad poem. I think it’s easier to read than a big block of text in this context because you can quickly scan down to see if there’s anything interesting there.
