To want to buy a vest in the USA?

Not talking about an american vest (which is a sleeveless overcoat) but a nice warm vest that you can tuck into your trousers to keep your kidneys warm all winter?

I'm in the US, and normally we would have been in the UK and stocked up on such a thing. Not this year. And now (after 20 years) I realise this garment does not seem to exist in America.

Where do American's buy thermal vests? I've tried Kohl's, Target, Gap, Walmart...nothing. Do American's not wear vests? How can you make it through a New England winter without one?

Try LLBean, Uniqlo, REI, or any other outdoors brand! The heat tech collection from Uniqlo is very affordable and they've always been great. Try looking up thermal base layer or long underwear.

Lots of thermal underwear but all with long sleeves. There's only one sleeveless thing on walmart and it's nylon.

We call them undershirts if you mean sleeveless or short sleeves. In the section where underwear is sold in multipacks. Or long underwear (thermal) as PP described.

I've lived in Alaska a long time and I agree there's really nothing comparable to a UK vest. The choice is really long sleeved underwear or cami type underwear which I wear when it's not cold enough for the long sleeved underwear.

Try looking for a camisole rather than a vest? Or order from M&S and have it shipped over, which is what I still do. Though this year they've massively increased the free delivery threshold and my annual pants, socks and vests order now doesn't meet the minimum. Thanks COVID.

M&S and Next both deliver here. My husband buys A shirts (or beaters, as he calls them) made by Hanes from Walmart.

Uniqlo do sleeveless thermal tops

Most places you'd buy it from in U.K. will send here to US. I wanted vests for my 2 year old as an under layer in the cold and alas I had to get them from Next.

Knit fabric won’t fray. You could just by long underwear and cut off the sleeves.

H&M in the US sell vest shaped t shirts, same as over here

You can get vests in Target. In New England they are called tank tops
