Wasn't sure where to put it?

How do you go about this?
Who pays the most?

I've got a really good one!

I'm sure you'll have a journo along soon, are you doing it anonymously and only for money?

Oreservoir · 13/12/2020 20:48

No.
You will need some proof, I think.

My ds knew about a celebrity pregnancy once via a uni friend whose df was an obstetrician. The friend had been in his df's office and seen some paperwork.
Obviously couldn't sell the story as totally unethical.

mollypuss1 · 13/12/2020 20:52

My DH has a lot of sensitive info on a famous friend he knew VERY well in her early pre fame days. He has been approached many times by the press to sell his story. He’s refused every time because he’s not a dick.

StoneofDestiny · 13/12/2020 21:10

Just tell us OP - we won't tell sshh ....mumsnet's the word. 🤐

I worked in the media for a long time and if you can’t google a newspaper’s phone number it’s never that good a story.

Bixs · 13/12/2020 21:33

Who else reckons @Lucyluhoo is the OP. Is the mail so short on stories, Lucy?

yelyah22 · 13/12/2020 21:33

DON'T send it to the Mail. Vile shitrag.

But find a publication, and then google 'contact newsdesk'. Most of them have a phone # and email.

WheresMyMask · 13/12/2020 21:33

You just email them.

@Lucyluhoo

This post has been hidden until the MNHQ team can have a look at it.
Unfortunately the OP said she had a story to sell to a newspaper so I doubt she'll be interested Lucy.
YesMeLady · 13/12/2020 21:46

Why wouks you want to sell a story? Pretty nasty thing to do.

DontStopThinkingAboutTomorrow · 13/12/2020 21:52

Where to go depends on the kind of story.
Gossipy celeb story= tabloid
Serious story with proof etc= broadsheet

Anyway, google "paper name + news desk" and you'll probably find out how to do it.

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/12/2020 21:54

Would you want someone selling a story about you? Nasty.

Flew · 13/12/2020 21:57

Take a Break? Wink

TasslesandFringes · 13/12/2020 21:57

Yup the story was sensationalised, and instead of it being a tribute - people got hurt. Consider why you’re doing it.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/12/2020 22:03

I think if you have a story about yourself where, say out fell out of an airplane whilst on the toilet, landing in soft snow, was befriended by wolves who taught you how to track and eat and Artic fox and you then traded the pelts to some Inuits for a sled and a team of dogs who took you Nome in Alaska where you had to persuade the local Sheriff (through rather tasteless methods) to contact the British Consulate in Anchorage to get home you might have a story that many paper will pay you for (if it's true). If it is about some 'celebrity' just keep quiet and hold your head high. Wink

tobee · 13/12/2020 22:09

Where did the op say it was a story about a celebrity? Or even about an actual person?

satnighttakeaway · 13/12/2020 22:18

What kind of story is it? I little more information might help you get an answer

thosetalesofunexpected · 13/12/2020 22:27

All quite intriguing

Just be careful, you reap what you sow saying karma
If its anything unethical be careful you don't get bitten on your bum .

2020namechanger · 13/12/2020 22:51

For those that have come along just to tell me not to be a dick.

The story is about myself. It's not negative but would be front page news.

Yes I need the money. Unfortunately this years been very tough in lots of other ways and this is a last resort.

Don't just assume I'm trying to sell someone else out. Not everyone is like that.
Just looking for some advice on approaching a paper.

@DontStopThinkingAboutTomorrow thank you, that's exactly what I needed to know.
Would that be like the guardian ect?

satnighttakeaway · 13/12/2020 23:06

Out of interest I just googled “I want to sell a story^ and found pages of links to specific publications and story selling agencies, who knew it was so easy
