Coronavirus has changed my fashion style

I always used to be quite a smart dresser, even casually. Autumn I would be seen wearing midi skirts, knit dresses, some gorgeous boots or a nice jumper.

Since the pandemic came along, I have completely changed my fashion sense into sweats and trakkies pretty much all the time. I never bother with makeup anymore because of the mask & have been tying my hair up or hiding it under a hat. Totally low key. Never thought I would be this uncaring about my appearance!

I just think, what is the point in dressing nicely?! We are in a high tier area. I’m not meeting up with friends or going anywhere. I saw a friends post yesterday on FB & to my surprise she was really well dressed with makeup & hair done etc

Am I the only one who has changed their fashion style?

I’m the same. Loose fitting trousers and a top every day. I haven’t even worn jeans in months and now they feel harsh and uncomfortable

FusionChefGeoff · 13/12/2020 08:33

I saw a lady in the shop yesterday in jeans and heeled boots and thought 'God she's a bit overdressed' GrinGrin

It's accelerated what was starting with me - I'd already knocked makeup back to high days and holidays but now even on the 2/3 occasions when we've actually been out for dinner I don't bother.

Jeans are reserved for 'smart' and I have worn those things I believe are called "dresses" precisely 2 times since March.

That said, a couple of days where I've had big work tasks to achieve, I've randomly put on proper clothes and it made a difference to my motivation / productivity so I should have learnt from that lesson.

But I didn't

So loungewear and massive jumpers for me!

Noshowlomo · 13/12/2020 08:36

I am definitely now even slobbier... jeans/pjs when at home. No make up for months. More rotund by the second.

whatswithtodaytoday · 13/12/2020 08:39

Same. I only ever wore leggings when pregnant before, now I live in them.

I am looking forward to having reason to get dressed up again though - not in anything too restrictive, but full make up, earrings, blow dried hair, I miss all that.

doctorhamster · 13/12/2020 08:40

I'm still dressing the same way I used to when I go out and about. I haven't worn any make up apart from foundation since March though (previously used to wear eyeshadow and mascara every day) and I've swapped underwired bras for some nice soft crop top type things. I think they're meant to be for sleeping in but they're so comfy I just can't bear to put a proper bra on again Blush

chipsandpeas · 13/12/2020 08:41

similar for me, although i did wear leggings a lot pre covid but i dont make any effort these days, cant remember the last time i put on make up (prob may/june time when doing a lot of zoom social calls) some days i dont even brush my hair, its not been dyed in months but getting done before xmas

meow1989 · 13/12/2020 08:42

During the colder parts of the pandemic I wore uggs every day. Then I left them outside after playing with ds in the garden and they're ruined. So now wellies are my go.to shoe Blush I do have some chunky heeled Chelsea boots I tend to wear otherwise as they're fairly good for wet walks, but they're mud covered.

I have started trying to make an effort to wear contacts and name up/do my hair when not at work.

I've also bought myself a couple of nice casual dresses, but haven't worn them as all I do is meet one friend with our dc and end up covered in mud! Or I see family and have a huge coat on anyway so just jeans and hoodie it.

dudsville · 13/12/2020 08:45

I'm similar but in a different way. Now that I'm not out if the house for 12 hours a day starting before the sun rises I am much more creative and feminine in what I'm wearing.

ClinkyMonkey · 13/12/2020 09:40

I'm the same. I want to be comfortable and my appearance has become less important. I'm growing out my grey and feel almost glad that I don't need to dress up for anything, as my two tone grey and faded sludge brown 'balayage' would rather spoil the effect! And now that it's winter I can plonk a hat on.

Audreyseyebrows · 13/12/2020 09:43

No. Still making an effort and still allergic to jogging bottoms.
I like looking nice.

hammeringinmyhead · 13/12/2020 09:45

I was a firm believer that leggings are not trousers - now I'm often found in a pair with a big cardi and some sheepskin boots.

I'm at work (skeleton staff, office) and a colleague came in in loungewear last week. Nobody batted an eyelid!

Nonamesavail · 13/12/2020 09:46

Same. No proper office now so I live in comfy clothes constantly :/

uggmum · 13/12/2020 09:48

Yep same here.

Leggings and sweatshirts are the norm these days.

My pyjamas are now divided into 'daytime' pyjamas and 'night time' pyjamas.

My woolly sock collection has grown.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 13/12/2020 09:51

I'm also in the 'leggings are not trousers' camp but boy are they comfy for WFH. I'm growing my hair instead of sticking with my short style. I'd forgotten how uncomfortable proper shoes are when slippers and trainers have been the main footwear for so long.

nosswith · 13/12/2020 09:51

I have not but have not worn 'work' clothes whilst wfh.

Judging by what I see when out walking and shopping you are not alone. Though in my opinion many people in the Uk never had style in the first place.

MargosKaftan · 13/12/2020 10:30

I'm physically back in work part time, so have been back to blow dried hair, make up and smartish clothes (although it's more smart casual where I work, so I don't tend to have a big difference between my home and work clothes)

Most people around me have gradually got less glam over 2020, I wonder if 2021 will see an about face fashion wise as we all associate those joggers, hoodies, shapeless, comfy clothes and unkempt hair with this shit year, and embrace being very dressed up once life starts getting back to normal?

starrynight19 · 13/12/2020 10:32

Mainly pjs for me here , in the last 6 weeks I have been isolating for 5 so not felt the need to even get dressed Blush

Camomila · 13/12/2020 10:39

I saw the most beutiful dress online last night and also thought "when am I going out at night again?"

DH and I have decided in 2021 we are getting dressed every day to wfh! I'm planning on leggings/warm tights and jersey dresses. Jeans are so uncomfy now!

PattyPan · 13/12/2020 10:51

I don’t wear makeup normally so that hasn’t changed but I am wearing jewellery and keeping my hair reasonably under control. At the beginning of the pandemic I was enjoying not wearing office clothes and just wearing leggings but I realised I don’t feel good if I dress like a slob and I’m also not as productive so now I wear my nice everyday clothes. I don’t own trackies!

JustAnotherUserinParadise · 13/12/2020 11:16

I got pregnant in the pandemic - pictured myself strutting about in trendy wrap dresses etc... Instead all the maternity clothes I've bought are comfy ones! Trackies, leggings, Jersey tops lol

IShouldProbablyHooverMore · 13/12/2020 11:55

I've gone the opposite way. I've been wearing dresses a lot more recently, experimenting with different make-up and hairstyles. I've found lockdown, masks etc. have taken a real toll on my mental health - making an effort with my appearance helps slightly.

WhatTheFuckHappenedHere · 13/12/2020 12:05

I’m the fattest slob in the kingdom since lockdown. If I wear jeans it is an EVENT

Sparklesocks · 13/12/2020 12:09

I think a lot of people are in the same boat. I’ve been WFH since March and in the office I used to wear black jeans with nice tops and occasionally dresses/skirts, but at home I wear leggings and sweatshirts. I started off wearing a full face of make up for video calls but now nothing, except maybe a quick dash of mascara for bigger meetings.

The one nice thing is clothes do seem a bit more exciting - dressing up (even jeans and boots at this point!!) feels like a novelty.
