White blonde hair - what age did it change?

I’m a bit gutted. My just turned 9 year old has white blonde hair ( so white it almost glows in photos) she’s always had lots of comments about how pretty the colour is but I’ve noticed lately that the roots are getting darker. I know it’s winter and hair tends to go darker but hers never has in the past. How old were your white blonde kids when it started to go dark and how long did it take to change. How dark did it go? Thanks.

My started to turn a darker blonde around 13 ish but still very blonde. Now at 33 it’s like a honey dark blonde. Still obviously blonde though

SpringSunshineandTulips · 11/12/2020 21:54

See mine was blonde while I was young and probably until I was in my 20’s (then I needed highlights) but it was never white blonde, more golden blonde. So I hoped she would keep her white blonde for longer than she has. It’s just really dulled down now which is a shame.

Mine started when I was about 11

paisley256 · 11/12/2020 21:57

Looking back at photos mine darkened around 7 or 8. I'm still blonde but nothing like that ofcourse.

ellentree · 11/12/2020 21:57

I was three and it went mousey. My brother was around puberty and went proper brown. My 5 year old still has her's but I'm not hopeful for it lasting to adulthood!

HopeAndDriftWood · 11/12/2020 21:57

Mine disappeared around 12. My little sister kept hers until 15ish.

Flipsockflop · 11/12/2020 21:58

My best friend had white blonde hair throughout our childhood and hers when she was a teen went to a lovely blonde. It’s still blonde and doesn’t need any highlights

I don't mean to sound horrible, I know you're just asking to compare experiences, but it's so depressing you're worrying about your young daughter's shade of hair. Does it really matter? It's just that on some level she's going to be absorbing that this is important - and it's really not.

NiceGerbil · 11/12/2020 22:00

Never really stopped but did darken a little in maybe my 30s and is now lightening again with grey Grin

Kids were both blonde one age 13 now has honey colour hair and the other has darkened as well but still pretty blonde at 11.

BillieSpain · 11/12/2020 22:01

7 or so

Nohomemadecandles · 11/12/2020 22:02

Well, now they'll have chance to comment on how lovely she is. Kind, considerate, well mannered, determined, thoughtful. Things about her that matter more than hair.

Of course it doesn’t really matter. She hasn’t even noticed it changing yet and I haven’t said anything either. But I’m allowed to be disappointed. She’s had this colour hair since she was born and it’s weird to think something she’s always had will soon be gone.

Both of my blonde kids were very blonde until they were 12 or so, one is now a very dark blonde, the other has pink hair HmmGrin

MrsBungle · 11/12/2020 22:04

I was probably 8ish. Now golden blonde naturally. My dad and granny were white blonde til around 19 then turned dark brown weirdly.

TakeMe2Insanity · 11/12/2020 22:04

DH’s was white blond until 14, then seems to have stayed light yellow until mid 30s. Now early 40s is a honey blond in UK. In the tropics it goes yellow blond almost immediately.

june2007 · 11/12/2020 22:06

Gradually from around 8 or 9 now my natual hair is a browny colour. (Funny i had the lightest in the family now I think i have the darkest... not including my parents.)

Redlocks28 · 11/12/2020 22:08

DD was white blonde until about 12, then it’s gradually darkened and is a yellow blonde now.

shinynewapple2020 · 11/12/2020 22:10

Both me and my DS had fluffy white blond hair as toddlers which darkened through primary school and we now have hair I can only describe as dark mouse as adults !

yellowm00n · 11/12/2020 22:13

I had curly white hair til i was about 3 or 4, then it turned a mousey brown. The only blonde i have now is from a bottle Sad

jambeforeclottedcream · 11/12/2020 22:20

I was 6 when I went from blonde to mouse

My dad was late 20s and he went bright blonde full head to dark and balding

Got to love genetics

FunnysInLaJardin · 11/12/2020 22:28

I have very dark brown hair, however my DC were born blonde. DS1 was quite fair until about 5 and now aged 15 is very dark red/brown. DS2 has always been blonde and is still quite fair although turning mousey.

When they were babies they were both very blonde, as was DH. I suspect the mouse colour will win!

ClinkyMonkey · 11/12/2020 22:32

I know it doesn't answer your question, but a friend of mine had white blonde hair until she was about 3 or 4. I only met her when we were 8 and her hair was jet black. I didn't believe her about the blonde hair until she showed me some photos!

SpringSunshineandTulips · 11/12/2020 22:42

She has quite a few freckles so I wonder if her hair may go reddish now. We have red hair in the family. It does just seem to be darkening up tho so probably just go a darker blonde / mousy brown.

D'S was white blond til 12ish, and then went a light dirty blond (lighter than a mouse, but duller in tone than his original white blond ). DD is still white blonde at 16.

Ozgirl75 · 11/12/2020 22:53

My son is still white blonde at 10, although he’s currently let his hair grow a bit longer (90s style floppy look currently in fashion here) and it looks a bit darker.
I’m sure it will darken at some point as my husband has dark brown hair and I have probably brown hair (who knows, it’s been highlighted since I was about 16).
He has fair eyebrows too so it will be interesting to see when it all changes. We’re in Australia though so I do think that keeps it lighter.
I went to school with a white blonde girl and she is the same at 43.
