EU blackmailing the UK

houseinthesnow · 11/12/2020 05:31

So it comes to pass. The EU have decided unless we agree to their unreasonable demands they will halt all travel, including air and road travel whilst still fishing in our waters apparently!

It is nothing short of piracy.

The true nature of the EU has been exposed for some time, hence our departure - but now no one can be any doubt just to the levels they will sink to.
The EU have no interest in trade relations, nor cooperation, they only seek control and power. The trading relations is and was always, window dressing to create a superstate - and it seems they are now not afraid to inflict as much damage as possible to stop a member leaving.
Even the most passionate remainer will now see how deeply disturbing this behaviour actually is.

One could argue it is an act of war in fact.

It should be treated as such.

I will happily eat beans to the end of my days than be blackmailed by the EU. We all knew it would get nasty at the end, but who they knew they were capable of this. I suppose we can't be that surprised given the past. The gloves are off now for sure - and that goes both ways we should remind them.

Hard hats on.

The idea that remainders are middle class is ridiculous. Some of the poorest parts of the UK were given EU money - my own city included - and this helped improve investment and infrastructure. And it is the poor who will suffer the most when food goes up price.

But as OP states - at least they can eat beans

gnomeisland · 11/12/2020 08:14

@Buddytheelf85

Fun fact, in 2018 we imported £ 12,167,530 worth of pulses from Guatemala.

Well, given that a) £12 million of pulses won’t be enough to feed our 65m population for one day, let alone a one year and b) those pulses most likely arrived through the EU, I don’t find that hugely comforting but thank you for trying.

Ah bless you Buddy, I'm a rabid remoaner. Just trying to find a chink of light in the gathering shit storm
wewillmeetagain · 11/12/2020 08:14

@Helmetbymidnight it's not the questions that are asked or the opinions that are given that are the problem. It's the way they are asked ( sneering derision) that is the problem.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 11/12/2020 08:14

Way wah wah renainers are meaaann whereas of course brexiters with “you lost get over it” and “drinking remoaner tears” have always conducted themselves with the height of civility 🙄🙄🙄

The moment Theresa may called remainers “citizens of nowhere” it was clear the Tories were not interested in even pretending to unite the country.

Couldn’t give a flying fuck how leavers feel. You reap what you sew

I’ll be Saying “I told you so” & “don’t blame me I voted to remain” ad infinitum and I’ll be enjoying your squeals of rage

MrsMiaWallis · 11/12/2020 08:15
@MrsMiaWallis , I've never wanted to be more wrong in my life. Egg on my face is a victory for this country. Egg on your face, on the other hand, is a fucking nightmare for all of us.
I don't want a no deal, and I absolutely didn't want to leave the EU bellini. I have to be pragmatic though as rather a lot of jobs depend on it. It is possible to see that neither side is covering themselves in glory here.

Moonmelodies · 11/12/2020 08:15

To be fair people did have the opportunity to stop Brexit at the last Election (by voting LibDem just once), but overwhelmingly decided to proceed with it.

Helmetbymidnight · 11/12/2020 08:15

unbelievable that people are still coming out with this shit.

Googlebrained · 11/12/2020 08:17

*You're choosing to become a country outside the block. The EU has essentially said ok, we'll treat you as a country outside the bloc. That seems very fair to me?

Don't whinge just because they don't subscribe to your notions of British exceptionalism*

You were lied to by our current Government, Farage and his ilk. They are the ones you should be raging out. The EU has every right to protect its interests and no reason to give us a better deal than everyone else now we're no longer a member.

It makes me so angry that people who just wanted to go into this shit show in order to win some non existent war, are happy for all of the rest of us to suffer, so they can get their moment of glory.

HMSSophie · 11/12/2020 08:17

An act of war? Are you as fucking mad as you seem OP? I hope, I really do, that you reflect on that - are you genuinely saying you believe the EU has committed an act of war against the Uk?

My opinion of Brexit voters has hit a new low.

Buddytheelf85 · 11/12/2020 08:17

I have just read that the UK could end up with an "Australian style deal"

Australia has no formal arrangement yet but still deals. It just means we pay more for the goods we get from Europe...you know what that means?

It means we value Australian made products and produce.

Well, Australia is in the process of trying to negotiate a free trade deal with the EU, it just doesn’t have one yet.

And comparisons between the UK and Australian relationship with the EU are just laughable. Australia has a population one third of the size, is on the other side of the world, and doesn’t share a historically contested land border with the EU. 51% of its imports don’t come from the EU and 43% of its exports aren’t to the EU. So it’s not surprising that it’s been ok without a deal to date.

Pyewhacket · 11/12/2020 08:19

The EU are simply implementing the rules that they implement for every other country outside of the bloc

..... so do the EU demand control over fishing rights in Canadian and Japanese waters and are they subject to EU regulation and retaliation in other areas.

Cam77 · 11/12/2020 08:20

I actually have a small modicum of respect for the Brexiters who are still fighting their corner honestly.

IE the "yes, we're going to have to tighten our belts for the coming years, if not decades. Jobs will be lost. Convenience will be gone. Sorry about that."

However, eventually we will recover.
And we will have won entire control over our laws and processes and our future.
And the EU has signs of turning blind eye to anti-democratic practices, human rights abuses (Catalonia anyone?) and pursuing "ever further integration".

Trouble is that stuff ^ is a hard sell and we are not the "sacrifice the present 30 years" for some possible far off future kind of people. So rather than face up to what they've done 90% of them have just run away. I'm sure "Boris" will be next to leg it.

ZenNudist · 11/12/2020 08:21

This is batshit mental

FoolsAssassin · 11/12/2020 08:24

An act of war, you are funny 😂

All this as others have said was predicted, this isn’t new information. It is what it is now.

If food prices go up 20% there will be even more people at food banks but we’ll have control so assumably things like that are ok with some people and a sacrifice worth making in an entirely predicted years ago situation .

ivykaty44 · 11/12/2020 08:24

So it comes to pass. The EU have decided unless we agree to their unreasonable demands they will halt all travel, including air and road travel whilst still fishing in our waters apparently!

Great opening, but lacks any actual substance, you don't mention what exactly these unreasonable demands of the UK are - care to elaborate?

It is nothing short of piracy. What is the EU doing in your mind that is stealing, killing and taking over our country?

The true nature of the EU has been exposed for some time, hence our departure - but now no one can be any doubt just to the levels they will sink to.
The EU have no interest in trade relations, nor cooperation, they only seek control and power. The trading relations is and was always, window dressing to create a superstate - and it seems they are now not afraid to inflict as much damage as possible to stop a member leaving.
Even the most passionate remainer will now see how deeply disturbing this behaviour actually is.

Again no substance, just many word - what do you so strongly object to that you want everyone else to see? You need to spell it out...EU is of course going to protect the other members and not just hand over deals as UK demands. Australia haven't been given deals they want - why should the U.K either do explain why you think a member state leaving should be given better deals than other countries world wide?

One could argue it is an act of war in fact. don't start mentioning wars its silly and dramatic

It should be treated as such.

borntobequiet · 11/12/2020 08:26

But our esteemed Prime Minister, that fount of wisdom, one of the people who fronted the Leave campaign, the person who promised £350 million per week for the NHS, who said that 2020 would be a fantastic year for Britain, has also said that the UK WILL “prosper mightily” whether we have a deal or not. So what’s your problem?
Admittedly, he also seems to have lost his “oven-ready” deal, and his cunning plan to divide and conquer by going directly to Merkel and Macron seems to have backfired (presumably they are too afraid of his persuasive, silver-tongued arguments to allow themselves to speak to him).
Never mind. You won, get over it.

wildraisins · 11/12/2020 08:27

"I will happily eat beans for the rest of my days than be blackmailed by the EU"

This kind of ridiculous attitude is what got us into this mess in the first place.

Buddytheelf85 · 11/12/2020 08:29

Ah bless you Buddy, I'm a rabid remoaner.
Just trying to find a chink of light in the gathering shit storm

Haha, fair enough.

My own chink of light is that there already has been and will continue to be more immigration from outside the EU, and therefore greater racial and religious diversity. We can give priority in the immigration queue to people from our former colonies (that we plundered) such as Kenya, Pakistan, Nigeria, etc, rather than prioritising white Christian Europeans.

And the biggest plus of all - most Brexiteers will be furious about it. Win win.

AlexaShutUp · 11/12/2020 08:33

I can't work out if this is supposed to be a pisstake or if it's possible for someone to genuinely be as stupid and deluded as the OP appears to be.

Neolara · 11/12/2020 08:33

OP - Do you actually believe what you said? Or were you trying to be provocative?

If you do believe it, it's actually quite an interesting insight into why leavers voted / continue to support leave. But I can't help thinking you've entirely misread the point of how a negotiations work and the relative strength/ power of both the UK and the EU.

Orangecake123 · 11/12/2020 08:35

Oh well.

At least Britain will be great again.

Tanith · 11/12/2020 08:35

@Moonmelodies

To be fair people did have the opportunity to stop Brexit at the last Election (by voting LibDem just once), but overwhelmingly decided to proceed with it.
They voted against Corbyn and Labour. Some believed the "politically homeless" lies and were duped into wasting their votes.

LibDems were, and still are, bogged down with identity politics squabbling that renders them virtually unelectable.

Of course, the 2019 election is now being claimed as a vote for Brexit.

BefuddledPerson · 11/12/2020 08:36

Yes, this is true. Germany also works well with its unions. But none of that is comfort to the manufacturers in the UK, who would like a fair crack of the whip.

That's really a UK issue that needs a UK solution. And manufacturers will be far worse outside the EU. So they won't be getting any sort of break from this government, sadly.

bellinisurge · 11/12/2020 08:36

@MrsMiaWallis , I'm not doing this. I'm angry that Brexiteers are. I'm allowed to be angry and to say I'm angry. And tbe ridiculous posturing and hurt feelings that Brexiteers are trying to pull makes me laugh at them. And try not to cry for our country.

Zilla1 · 11/12/2020 08:36

Yes, OP nothing short of piracy and completely different to the buccaneering trade deals the UK will be signing in the future.
