To point you all in the direction of the government consultation on violence against women and girls

The government are holding a public consultation to help inform their next steps on the campaign to end violence against women and girls.

The survey can be found here:

www.gov.uk/government/consultations/violence-against-women-and-girls-vawg-call-for-evidence

It closes on 15th December.

This is an important opportunity to have a say on current policy and which direction you would like to see future policy move in.

Have reported this and asked for it to be made a pinned post. That was a couple of days ago. Any thoughts MNHQ?

Bump!
@MayYouLiveInInterestingTimes what part of stalking and upskirting isn't physical? To describe those as unpleasant is dismissing how intimidating and devastating they can be.
Please don't think I haven't experienced such things and don't know just how intimidating they are. However the second question of the survey, asking me whether these items are "violent" and "crimes" I thought was very badly worded. Did they mean legal crimes, recognised as such, or ethical 'crimes'? This expanded use of the word "violence" is reminiscent of the use TRAs make of it and I don't find it helpful.

Done.

MoonPomme · 12/12/2020 11:55

Done thank you

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 12/12/2020 11:57

Filled it in.

One question really bothered me.

Do you agree that perpetrators of domestic violence are women and men?

Well yes I do, but when you look at the numbers there's a massive discrepancy.

MayYouLiveInInterestingTimes · 12/12/2020 12:03

Yes, I noticed that one too. I am a little suspicious of the government's agenda here. I got the slightest impression that the survey is coming from a place where they have already decided the outcome they want and are looking for justifications. Which of course the British government never does. The thought.

FoxyTheFox · 12/12/2020 12:03

That bugged me too, I think it should have had a follow up question to ask which group you think was the largest perpetrator.

Thank you. I have responded.

Fortunefavours1 · 12/12/2020 12:22

@MayYouLiveInInterestingTimes Thanks for clarifying.
If it helps, both upskirting and stalking are now crimes.

BraveGoldie · 12/12/2020 12:25

Done. I thought most of it was good but had reservations about the same bits others have mentioned. I also found it annoying that you could say none of the initiates were important but you couldn't say all of them were.

And asking about perception of whether crimes are getting worse seems strange to me. There are stats on this - at least on reporting. This could be used to say 'seems things are getting worse, despit

BraveGoldie · 12/12/2020 12:26

Despite reporting going down - so what wrong with reporting? This would be fine. But it may also be used to say the public don't know what they are talking about.

Absolutely agree. Did anyone take part in the government consultation about changes to exams next year? That was exactly the same. The way the questions were worded were so closed (is that the right explanation?) so that they were obviously wording questions to support their already planned policies. Annoyingly I can't think of any examples!

Thanks I have filled it in!
