Hi all, not aibu so I apologise but health sections never seem to get many responses.

I was referred by my dentist to my local hospital
earlier this year to oral and facial surgery. I have wisdom teeth pronlems, jaw problems and salivary gland problems. Mainly to do with wisdom teeth - yay 😫

Finally have an app next week - if it’s not cancelled again.

What do I expect at the initial consultation?

What do they do? How long does it take?

I’m not a nervous patient thankfully. Just like to be prepared!

My Dentist referred me but for different reasons.
At my appointment pre Covid times I was examined -brief dental examination-then sent for an x-ray.
There was a fair bit of sitting about in X-Ray as the department was busy & full of people being sent from other departments also. Then back at Oral, Maxillofacial facial department after the X-ray before being brought back through , X-ray was discussed and then told I was being referred for MRI. Took a couple of hours if I recall but they were taking patients through in between seeing me and me then waiting to see them to discuss the X-ray. I imagine that will be less due to less patients & spaced out appointment timings due to distancing.
After the MRI I waited months for the follow up as the consultant was off sick, vague out come was just to increase medication & for the GP to refer me to the pain clinic which hasn’t happened due to Covid.

I hope you have a successful outcome.
