Things you can't stand for no reason whatsoever?

I have a real aversion to silicone. For some reason the thought of it makes me feel like I'm going to throw up, I can honestly get to heaving point 🤢 I've no idea why, it's not the feel of it. I just can't stand the thought of it.

It's the same with bottle tops, like the screw bottle top on a bottle of coke. The tip is always so scratchy and it gives me shivers.

Anyone else have random things they cannot stand but can't really explain?

DH thinks I'm a freak 😂

SionnachRua, why Father Christmas? Confused
I just hate it, it sounds poncey to me. I fully accept that that's irrational and it's a normal phrase for other people but it drives me up the wall!

The noise when people rub their hands together

Seeing the dr pimple popper program being advertised

Inside of a pumpkin

Sea creatures

ImNotShpanishImEgyptshun · 10/12/2020 22:30

Why those specifically? It certainly runs in my family but I thought I was least affected.

ImNotShpanishImEgyptshun · 10/12/2020 22:31

Quote fail, that was for @MrDarcysMa

Yes... particularly oldish men with parched hands.

The sound of someone else's TV through the walls of a house, particularly an action movie when it goes silent for long periods and then booms out.

Drunk people on public transport at chucking out time.

Noel Fielding. I don't know why I just hate him.

Friends (the TV series) and its bizarre revival. Most over-rated TV show in the history of the world.

People with food "intolerances".

I will 100% hold my hands up and say it's an unreasonable dislike 😂 Just as unreasonable as I am about the pregnant women! Brains are funny things!
ELM8 · 10/12/2020 22:39

Jeans with flip flops.. especially on men. I don't know why but it makes me shudder.

hugocat · 10/12/2020 22:43

I hate 'DH, DP, DD, DS ' etc on here . Please say I'm not the only one ???

goopsoup · 10/12/2020 22:43

V true. I suppose that's the whole point of this thread.

There are names I can't stand even though they are perfectly respectable, decent names that no one can reasonably take exception to. One is Oliver (sounds greasy, somehow; the association with olive oil I think), another is Bella (always reminds me of belly, yuk). Also names with a lot of "L" sounds like Layla, Lola or Leila (although Lily is fine for some reason). Just sets my teeth on edge, and totally irrational also.

Tess Daly

Tess Daly
How come? She is beautiful but no way looks 51!
tinselfest · 10/12/2020 22:50

Thick soft fluffy towels. Ugh.

hugocat · 10/12/2020 22:51

I can't stand water left in the washing up bowl or water in saucepans etc left 'to soak' arrrghhh 😡 A lady I worked with used to empty her cup of tea into a filled washing up bowl . VOMIT 🤢

Jenstar123 · 10/12/2020 22:53

The word ‘meal’ instead of breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Teeth squeaking on acrylic jumpers.
Chris Rock.
Loud over enthusiastic parents in public places.

BluebellCockleshell123 · 10/12/2020 22:54

Anyone of any age listening to any kind of electronic noise without headphones. Unbearable!

Wauden · 10/12/2020 22:55

The colour yellow.
Socks with individual toes freak me out.
Large hoods with fur round the edges really annoy me.
Packets of 'party food', with no taste, very fatty, and sludge colours. Make me feel sick.

Barmyfarmy · 10/12/2020 22:56

Had an intense craving to bite sponges when pregnant with all 4 DC. Used to chew on a kitchen sponge for hours. Now can't touch sponges and have to use flannels to wash and a silicone sponge for kitchen!

SionnachRua · 10/12/2020 22:57

Socks with individual toes freak me out.

Yeah I hear you on that one and you've just reminded me of a very similar (yet very different) dislike of mine - mittens! Can't stand the bloody things!

DriveThroughSwabber · 10/12/2020 22:57

Blue Christmas lights. Too cold and depressing, and if they are flashing, it looks like the emergency services have arrived.

hotcrosswhat · 10/12/2020 22:59

@FMyUterus that's interesting as I am the opposite - I think that only cheerful songs should be allowed on the radio early in the morning. I agree about the talking though!!

MadamBatty · 10/12/2020 23:04

Long finger nails or worse long toe nails. Make me feel nauseous.

hotcrosswhat · 10/12/2020 23:04

I'm pregnant so perhaps more things are annoying me than usual Blush one thing, very unreasonable I know, is when people make an effort with their hair but no makeup, or lots of makeup but no effort with their hair - it should be both or neither!! Don't get me wrong, I am mostly neither Wink
