Things you can't stand for no reason whatsoever?

I have a real aversion to silicone. For some reason the thought of it makes me feel like I'm going to throw up, I can honestly get to heaving point 🤢 I've no idea why, it's not the feel of it. I just can't stand the thought of it.

It's the same with bottle tops, like the screw bottle top on a bottle of coke. The tip is always so scratchy and it gives me shivers.

Anyone else have random things they cannot stand but can't really explain?

DH thinks I'm a freak 😂

Shop mannequins, or just mannequins in general.

newrubylane · 10/12/2020 21:56

Wet toilet paper and kitchen roll. Gross, I can't touch it.

Bambam2019 · 10/12/2020 22:00

ham sandwiches on white bread 😷 and to be honest any cold sandwich for that matter. And cold ‘beige’ food like cold sausage rolls etc.

borntohula · 10/12/2020 22:02

@Butterflight

Eating cotton wool. Obviously I've never done it, and I have no idea why I even think about it, but the thought makes me shudder.
My bf has the same aversion to cotton wool. Grin
Bambam2019 · 10/12/2020 22:04

@PushBack

Cold drinks in mugs. The thought of orange juice in a non see through vessel honestly makes me heave
Ugh this also. Any cold drink has to be in something see through (eg a class of water) or a can. How anyone over the age of about 4 can drink from a BEAKER 😷 just noooo
borntohula · 10/12/2020 22:04

@dayswithaY

That clump of white seeds you get inside a pepper. I just can't look as it makes me so queasy. And I love peppers.
Yes! I was so disgusted by seeds during pregnancy that the thought made me sick. And I hate 'clusters' of things, makes me feel itchy and pukey.
Chickenwing · 10/12/2020 22:05

@bambam2019 those are my favourite foods Grin

Flibbertigibbet2211 · 10/12/2020 22:06

Face flannels unless they are fresh every time you use them. I think this goes back to childhood when you would get a faceful of something hot and wet and vaguely smelly. I use them now to take off make-up with aqueous cream and warm water, but a fresh one every time (no extra washing, they just go straight into the machine to await the next wash).

Mummatron3000 · 10/12/2020 22:07

Alfa Romeo cars, with the number plate to the side, really irks me!

Flibbertigibbet2211 · 10/12/2020 22:10

@PushBack and @Bambam2019 You wouldn't be happy in my house! I have a fear of anyone using drinking glasses except with extreme care because of the risk of broken glass (particularly tiny shards not being found and getting into cats' paws) so we all drink everything from mugs except on really special occasions. Weird I know.

MrsHugsxx · 10/12/2020 22:14

The sound of someone sweeping their front step with a brush. Just the thought of the sound gives me shivers.

hansgrueber · 10/12/2020 22:17

'Untidy' newspapers! My dear OH used to leave them higgledy-piggledy, the pages not exactly folded, when I picked one up the first thing I did was align the edges perfectly and slide my nail down the crease.
Pencils that are not razor sharp, I can't use cheap pencils either, they're one of the few things where I don't economise , I do a lot of crosswords and puzzles, so I go through a lot and sharpen them every day.

Thelnebriati · 10/12/2020 22:17

@FangsForTheMemory

Cotton wool and also acrylic jumpers. I discovered as a child that they squeak if you bite them and argh argh argh my teeth are on edge already.
Also wooden lolly sticks
NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 10/12/2020 22:18

Chalk
Hair in wet places especially bathrooms and swimming changing rooms 🤢
Wet sleeves
People who don’t order food and then eat out of yours
People who stand really close in queues even in this pandemic but also before
The goody two shoes overbearing parents at school

Jbh333 · 10/12/2020 22:18

Fluffy trim on hoods round my neck makes me angry like I want to rip it off and stamp on it!

Also the word pop (as in when people call fizzy drink that...) when people say you want a glass of pop like what coke, lemonade, Fanta? Elaborate.

And the word poorly urgh

KiKiDeluxe · 10/12/2020 22:20

Glitter. Argh!

Flibbertigibbet2211 · 10/12/2020 22:20

I really struggle to watch anyone using a sharp knife in a kitchen (I don't have a problem using one myself) whether IRL or on TV. In a cookery programme I have to keep reminding myself that they wouldn't be showing it if the cook had lost a finger in the process. If it's on Casualty I know to cover my eyes until it's all over...Shock

ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing · 10/12/2020 22:21

Feet, especially in Birkenstock type sandals. A toe post makes them look more bearable somehow.

Plastic cups and plates, I can smell them and it puts me off my food/drink.

The wrong cup or mug for my hot drink. I just won’t enjoy it properly.

The tapping sound of typing on an iPad makes me nauseous. So weird 😕

Wigisfashion83 · 10/12/2020 22:21

Wet sleeves, yes !
Opening tight bottle lids which hurts your hands
That awful loud ringing noise in Aldi

SionnachRua · 10/12/2020 22:22

Styrofoam makes me want to throw up Envy . Not exaggerating there, the sound and feel of it is torturous.

Heavily pregnant women give me the heebie jeebies too. It's the look of the stomach that gets me.

MN words that irritate me: picky bits, chippy tea, poorly, Father Christmas, cross.

ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing · 10/12/2020 22:22

Wearing hats, scarves and gloves makes me all kinds of irritated!

Wigisfashion83 · 10/12/2020 22:23

'i'll stick it in the diary'

MrDarcysMa · 10/12/2020 22:23

@ImNotShpanishImEgyptshun

I have a phobia of baked beans and buttons. No idea why. I'm not alone in these phobias though.
@ImNotShpanishImEgyptshun apparently this is OCD. I'm surprised nobody has told you this before !
FMyUterus · 10/12/2020 22:24

People talking on the radio, getting in the car at 5am and DH has left the bloody radio set to 5live and they're so fucking annoying. Or just the radio in general at that time in the morning, I wish I could set my car to not put any noise on until I'm ready with my podcast.
I'm barely functioning I don't want to go to work in the dark and rain and I definitely don't want to hear cheerful music

Flibbertigibbet2211 · 10/12/2020 22:25

SionnachRua, why Father Christmas? Confused
