To be MASSIVELY pissed off..........

that I lost 6 stone and now look similar to this?

Obviously I left it too late (nearly 50), after being fat for over 20 years, but I didn’t have the mindset to lose the weight until DC got older. It’s taken me almost 3 years (while also battling menopause and hypothyroidism) and because I mainly did it through exercise, it’s taken a lot of hard work!

I used to look so much younger when I was obese!

I am so fucking disappointed. Especially with my horrible turkey neck Angry.

I know INBU but thought I’d check anyway.

Sadly skin that has been overstretched for 20+ years is NEVER going to shrink back, I've lost 8.5 stone and am 46 now...it's going nowhere. Surgery will be the only option, I'm contemplating a full body lift

Derelictwreck · 10/12/2020 12:30

Lesson is to loose excess weight before you hit 40’s, I suppose.

I've just lost 4 stone at 28 and look the same! Your skin only has so much elasticity. Losing (in my case) the equivalent volume of 56 pounds of fat is going to leave a lot of empty space!

illustrioustoad · 10/12/2020 12:30

I feel your pain... I lost 5 stone when I hit 30 and I have such a saggy tummy. I'm so self conscious of it Blush

Derelictwreck · 10/12/2020 12:31

@shitinmyhandsandclap can you link to some info on the supplements and how you got them/use them?

RedditFreak · 10/12/2020 12:32

I think that’s such a wonderful achievement!!! Losing weight whilst having thyroid problems is incredibly well known as being difficult. I bet although you don’t like it. I bet others don’t even notice. We often hate things so we hide them. But I bet you look fabulous darling.

Spitoutthebauble · 10/12/2020 12:36

@CrotchBurn

OP have you considered fillers? I usually go for 0.5mg and it does wonders for me. They offer an incredibly natural kind of "your skin but natural" effect these days, nothing obvious. I get my lips done too, take a look.
I adore this 'korean glass' effect on your skin too, you've really nailed the look.
ImPrincessAurora · 10/12/2020 12:36

Oh OP. I’m not laughing at you but your picture did give me a chuckle.

Any chance you could speak to your GP about surgery? Any chance you could afford it yourself? If it is as bad as you say, it would be worth the saving up/investment.

You did so well to lose all that weight, please don’t be disheartened. Your body will be thanking you and there must be things that are easier despite the skin? Walking up the stairs? Buying clothes? The list must be long. Try and focus on that Flowers

HesterShaw1 · 10/12/2020 12:40

I'd echo someone else who said that your body, your general health and your internal organs will thank you every day for the rest of your life. Well done on that weight loss. This year hasn't been easy for anyone, so to accomplish that as well is something you should rightly be proud of.

I'm 45 and have been inadvertently (it's certainly nothing I have done) slim all my life and am getting a turkey neck. Often just something you get with age.

Carry on getting fit. Being fit feels so much better than not being fit.

whynotwhen · 10/12/2020 12:45

Two teaspoons of collagen in your coffee every morning (I get mine from Ocado) and have you considered wearing a garment? Like a body stocking kind of thing you wear after lipo... that's meant to help with getting the skin back.
Though I may be talking rubbish as I'm not an expert.
But congratulations on losing all that weight, it's not easy but I'd hazard a guess you've added some extra years to your life there Smile

picklemewalnuts · 10/12/2020 12:51

I'm 51 and 1.5 stone down, 6 more to go.

My skin is not at all elastic, and I know this will be a problem for me.

What is your goal? Increased mobility? Looking good? Better health?

You have achieved most of what you want.
Take a while to get used to the new you. It's possible you are focussing too much on things that are new, and to other people it isn't noticeable at all.

52andblue · 10/12/2020 13:01

@Franklyfrost

Ha ha. That’s me! If you want a scare, get naked and go on all fours. I do love being a grumpy melting bald cat. Meow.
This made me laugh. I need to. I have lost 8st, aged 48/50. If I went on all fours my loose skin 'stomach' would drag on the ground. I also have diastasis recti so look pg standing up. And no longer have breasts. Ho hum. I am healthier and that is what matters. But yes like a melted candle when I take my clothes off. 'full body lift' you say?
planningaheadtoday · 10/12/2020 13:02

I've just lost over 4 stone in 6 months and I feel your pain. I'm similar age to you.

On a plus, your body is healthier and fat around your organs will be greatly reduced. Your chances of a healthy outcome with covid have increased by a huge margin. You can wear clingy clothes, the secret is decent shape wear undergarments.

My tummy currently looks like the cat in your picture! I'm wearing a high waisted stretchy girdle when I'm in a dress. Or I'm choosing high waisted peach skin leggings when I'm wearing T shirts. I'm also wearing a decent M&S bra that gives a good shape to my bust, this suffered too. I'd not appreciated the huge amount of fat my body had hidden!

Never again will I be able to wear a bikini.

MikeUniformMike · 10/12/2020 13:03

OP, you look just like me.

MrsMigginsMate · 10/12/2020 13:12

This thread makes me so sad.

Why can't you ever wear a bikini again @planningaheadtoday ? Fuck it, life is too short just wear whatever you like without worrying about other people being offended by your body. My mother spent my whole life dodging swimming pools and beaches because of a large surgery scar, how I wish she had learned to love herself so I could have made memories with her.

So much self hatred in this thread in general, and so many women encouraging each other to 'tuck on' and hide their various imperfections. Whatever happened to supporting each other? I know you all mean well but Christ this is depressing. If my daughter tells me she hates a part of her body the last thing I would do is tell her she ought to hide it. How about the revolutionary idea of self acceptance FFS. Hmm

MrsMigginsMate · 10/12/2020 13:13

The phrase 'crabs in a bucket' springs to mind.

Kakiweewee · 10/12/2020 13:17

I'm saving for surgery now. I've lost 5st 7lbs this year and the loose skin is starting to show. I've got wrinkly knees and flappy under arms.

My total loss goal is 10st or 50% body weight, and I'm gonna look bad. But the loss was never about looks, I'm getting prolapse repairs and need to lose for surgery. It's about health, less pain and less risk. If I can't look good, I want to feel fabulous.

JustCallMeGriffin · 10/12/2020 13:18

I'm facing this reality as the weight slowly drops off in my 40s. I've been obese almost all of my adult life, but this year has shocked me into exercising properly and regularly and overhauling my diet.

For the first time, I'm not trying to lose weight though. I'm genuinely just trying to make my body as healthy as possible. The side effect of this is 0.5lb or so off my weight on a weekly average. I'm a stone down and already starting to see where my skin has no elasticity to 'bounce back'. But I've already decided I'd rather have excess skin than have my heart/lungs struggle to lug around a body with a BMI of 41 (down to 38 now...so making progress!).

Well done on losing so much. By all means be pissed off, but also be very proud and know you've accomplished something amazing.

ChocolateCherrybomb · 10/12/2020 13:35

My inner thighs look like a geriatric elephants ball sack. Wrinkly, sagging but strangely elastic. I lost sixish stone gradually over about four years but it's also because GP put me on Amlodipine and various others for high blood pressure. The Amldipine being the only continuous factor. I swear that shit sucks all the moisture out of my body which is causing the extreme wrinkliness. It's got me up half the night pissing like a horse and turning my poo into impassable chalk, butt I digress, that's a whole other thread.

Beautifulbonnie · 10/12/2020 13:43

@MrsMigginsMate

I agree. Self love is so important.

It’s meant to be light hearted! You do you, but I like to poke fun at myself. I like it when others do it as well as it signals self-awareness.

"I'm 45 and have been inadvertently (it's certainly nothing I have done) slim all my life and am getting a turkey neck. Often just something you get with age."

Same here only a bit younger. Those 'necklaces' going around the neck, then some loose skin at the crease of the neck and a double chin :(
Necks just age easily don't they?

TheSpottedZebra · 10/12/2020 13:55

@MatildaonaWaltzer

you're 6 stone lighter and you sound like you're a good laugh, so you're totally winning.
This !

Also, are you comparing yourself with how you were decades ago? As everything, on everyone starts to sag. Knees shift. Tummies evolve. Even the slimmest people have a bit of 'bingo wing'

TheSpottedZebra · 10/12/2020 13:56

Also, the rise in phone and tablet use, plus bad laptop posture is going to lead to an epidemic of 20yo turkey necks!

LakieLady · 10/12/2020 13:56

Congratulations, OP.

If the skin's really bad, I suggest putting aside the money you're saving on the food bill and save up for a tuck or two!

WitsEnding · 10/12/2020 13:57

I have a turkey neck at normal weight - I’m over 60, not complaining - but it’s far worse if I put on a few pounds. All the fat goes to my abdomen and under my chin.
