@pringlebells, have you tried a steam mop. I had the same problem for years, then I got that and it makes me so happy that the floors aren't streaky anymore.

DaughterOfEvilReindeer · 10/12/2020 00:10

I had to buy ExH out to stay here because he said he would force a sale on the open market if I didn't and went with what he said it was worth to get it done. It wasn't worth that, the lease needed extending and I've paid out loads to have central heating put in and a new bathroom. If I put it on the market now I'd be about £60k down.
It's just as well I'm not going anywhere for now and I do love my home, it's my safe place and it's MINE.

Lexilooo · 10/12/2020 00:12

The ridiculously tiny kitchen. The rest of the house is a normal 3 bed house but the kitchen is miniscule.

AlCalavicci · 10/12/2020 00:12

Tiny kitchen
Though lounge and Open plan stairs and concret floors = bloody freezing
The whole house needs redecorating .

DaughterOfEvilReindeer · 10/12/2020 00:13

Oh but there is also the fact that I am chronically untidy. It's lovely when I've had a clean and put everything away but doesn't happen very often.

DreamingofaShiteChristmas · 10/12/2020 00:13

No storage. None of the rooms are big enough for built in cupboards etc and there is literally nowhere to put an ironing board, hoover and the like, so they are always on show. A utility cupboard somewhere, anywhere, would be a huge help.

Only one bathroom. We’ve considered putting in a second but see above. There is literally nowhere to build one.

Sometimes people on here post huge, beautiful detached houses with acres of ground on rightmove and they cost the same as our tiny 3 bed terrace down south. I could weep but of course, to up sticks and move would mean leaving all our family and friends.

blackkitty1234 · 10/12/2020 00:15

Nowhere to sit in my kitchen. I have a living/dining room, which is fine but it would be nice to have a little breakfast bar or something in the kitchen.

I'm lucky enough to have a family bathroom and an en-suite, but they are both tiny. No shower in bathroom, just a bath.

PickAChew · 10/12/2020 00:16

The East facing gable wall that is really bloody cold and damp. North facing wall mostly OK. East facing wall clammy and disgusting.

Magissa · 10/12/2020 00:19

Small old flat in a lovely area. I love our block and don't mind that the flat is small however I hate that our kitchen has no window just a skylight. Our bathroom has just an extractor fan, no window either. Sad

The fact that the bank owns it until the mortgage is paid off!

Honestly wish the lottery was set up with more, smaller, wins. I don’t want to win millions (never buy a ticket), but if there was more chance of winning, say £200k, then I might give it a go. I reckon that’s what most people want in life - a mortgage-free normal home.

Aside from that, it’s storage. It’s an old cottage, all the rooms are lovely, but there’s not one big storage cupboard for “stuff” (xmas tree, etc).

pallisers · 10/12/2020 00:22

We have no garage. We live in a climate where you regularly have to dig out from feet of snow so that means digging out two cars and trying to clear the drive around said cars. It is an utter pain. I fantasize about winning the lottery and buying out the house that backs on to ours (I do like that neighbour though - will miss him when I buy him out) and turning it into a garage/workshop/boat storage)

We renovated a couple of years ago and lived for a few months in a house with a 2-car garage - god snowstorms were so much less stressful. But that said, the renovation means I love every single other bit of my house. Before the renovation the draughts, the horrible wall sconce lights, the windows, the lack of A/C in summer, the weird electrics (knob and tube from early part of last century), the lack of downstairs loo, odd kitchen space all annoyed me a lot.

BeardieWeirdie · 10/12/2020 00:24

Mess everywhere that I can’t keep on top off. I need a ruthless streak, a skip and a kick up the backside.

Inkpaperstars · 10/12/2020 00:24

Rented and can't alter lots of things that could be solved if owner occupied, this causes a long this of problems with fixtures and fittings breaking as cheaply and unsuitably done, materials that off gas, no storage built in etc, floor problems, v bad hard water
Noise and cooking smells travelling between flats
Food smells getting everywhere
Communal areas not good
No windows in bathroom
Nowhere to dry laundry
Pollution and dust
no outside space
No storage
Not enough rooms or space for our needs
Very expensive
No parking space

But I do like it! Lots of things to moan about but it has a lovely feel to it in lots of ways and is in an area people come to visit for day trips and holidays

You'd still have to dig out the garage door!
Inkpaperstars · 10/12/2020 00:25

Oh yes, and open plan...has big advantages but all appliances are v noisy when tying to sit in lounge, and doesn't aid cooking smells issue!

olderthanyouthink · 10/12/2020 00:26

Rent and renting making it hard to justify fixing stuff that I know the landlord won't.

The kitchen is falling apart, bathrooms aren't well ventilated and the windows are rotting.

olderthanyouthink · 10/12/2020 00:29

@LightDrizzle would a suction shower head holder help? We have one for toddler DD (not exactly one of these but similar)

Walking sideways down every slither of redundant hallway because the house was clearly designed for a two dimensional human. Kitchen window looking at a six foot fence when the other wall faces the garden. Bath designed for a four foot six reclining spaniel. The puppy weeing inside of open back door.

pallisers · 10/12/2020 00:36

PickaChew I DREAM of digging out the garage door :)

honestly probably the top fantasy both dh and I have is .... two-car garage with workshop attached

IdblowJonSnow · 10/12/2020 00:36

It's too small with very little storage. Otherwise it's pretty nice though!

tobee · 10/12/2020 00:46

The mess. The decor. The kitchen. Bits that need replacing.

tobee · 10/12/2020 00:47

I dream of having a skip outside for a month.

LightDrizzle · 10/12/2020 00:55

olderthanyouthink Ooh! Thank you!

HerRoyalNotness · 10/12/2020 00:56

Small living area.
The state of the carpet up the stairs and landing. 3 D.C. and cream carpet, ugh.
My utility room without a sink in it to wash out yucky stuff

Lessofallthisunpleasantness · 10/12/2020 01:04

drafty
tatty
cluttered
people loiter outside which can be annoying
