Formal complaint now, later or never?

We are having a small conservatory installed. Initially told it would be completed in Sept, then Nov, and now only starting next week! We've heard a raft of issues causing delays- none of which have been covid related! Their computer systems crashed for 4 weeks, our contact was off sick for 2 weeks and no one else could access the plans, the weather was bad (snow for 1 day!) and now delivery of the wrong components by THEIR supplier!

Tonight I got a call from the company at 8pm and the 1st thing he said was 'oh, I thought this would be your husbands phone!?!' The whole conversation was condescending and blamed the delays on us! This is a large supplier, with generally good reviews. There are other issues too.

Would you complain now, wait till the conservatory is actually installed or go about it another way?

Have you paid anything? If not, I’d have sacked them off weeks ago. If you’ve paid a deposit, look into whether it’s returnable based on their lack of delivery on the contract.

We've paid the 1st of the 4 installed payments at each stage of the build. It needing building regs because we are having the outside doors removed, so not sure how easy it is to just cancel and find another company.

I'd hit the roof. What's the downside of complaining now?

LouiseTrees · 10/12/2020 08:52

I’d phone and complain now and say it under the guise of “ I will not have those working to build this treat me in the same manner and I would like you to talk to whomever phoned me and make them aware any and all issues are on your side and I will be closely monitoring for any breaches of contract”

I would back out, if you can, it won't improve! Did you contact them or were you a victim of 'double glazing door to door sales men?' I showed a vague interest in having new porch doors, and suffered months of cross purpose phone calls , incompetent measuring visits, etc. until I threatened them with reporting them to the police for harrassment! The firm's name was Safe something.

Definitely complain now or if you think it's too much see if you can get your money back n go elsewhere

The only reason I'm reluctant to make a complaint now is that it may be delayed even further.

We had 4 companies come to quote at our request- none were cold calls.
