to not want to stay at brother in laws

I don't like him, no secret... I don't know any woman that does .... BUT he lives in sunnier climes and my DH wants to stay with him for 2 weeks. (Only way we can afford to go somewhere hot for the foreseeable future). Would I be an unreasonable selfish cow if I refused to go or is it better to be a user and miserable on holiday if I agree to go... Bit muddled - help me out someone?

is it just a place to rest your head? ie are you going to be out all day, so limited exposure to BIL?

Gursky · 21/10/2007 20:43

Two weeks is a long time to be house guests - even with people you like. If you will only be miserable then it won't be much of a holiday for anyone. Can you suddenly develop an urgent environmental conscience and refuse to fly out on ethical grounds?

Tuttiefruitie · 21/10/2007 20:45

BIL very in your face, would want to do everything with us and would make it obvious .. So no it would be very much a holiday with him....

Should I lie my way out of this???

I suppose lying your way out is not a great idea... does DH share/understand your view of his brother?

Tuttiefruitie · 21/10/2007 20:54

He knows how I feel and knows where I am coming from but he is alot more patient with him and at the end of the day he's his brother.. so he goes out of his way for him.

If he understands where you are coming from, he may be able to see that 2 weeks in his company will not be a relaxing family holiday. Don't envy your dilemma though, very delicate.

WideWebWitch · 21/10/2007 20:59

Don't go.
House swap with someone instead (or him?)
Go somewhere cheaper?
Go out of season?
Go camping?

but don't go to stay with him if you can't stand it, it'll be vile.

BrownSuga · 21/10/2007 20:59

can you compromise and afford a week somewhere hot instead? all inclusives while not everyone's cup of tea can be quite cheap, esp last minute deals.

WideWebWitch · 21/10/2007 21:00

Offer him a houseswap with you, is that a go er? Sounds like the best plan to me.

Tuttiefruitie · 21/10/2007 21:02

I've made a decision.. We are not going... Just got to tell dh now ... wish me luck... I hear camping is quite fun!
Thanks everyone
(still feel selfish and horrid tho)
