To let my DD use Nookazon (Animal.crossing)

I would really appreciate some advice from parents who's DC play Animal Crossing. My DD is 8. She has asked if she can use 'Nookazon' which appears to be a way to buy (not real money - game money) items off others (strangers) and a way to get for example fruit that doesn't grow on your island. Would you have any safety concerns? Would you be ok with it or does your DC use it?

I let my 5yo do it and I jave done it. No worries

I wouldn't be too worried about it, it does have a chat function so I'd check in now and again and make sure she knows she can come to you with any concerns, but I've used it (extensively ) and never encountered any unpleasant behaviour.

I use the turnip exchange regularly to sell my turnips at high prices. I was really worried about it but haven't encountered any problems.

There was a really funny programme on radio 4 about animal crossing. Basically that the whole game is about going in to ever increasing debt and paying it off. It made me laugh.

I really want it. I might ask for it for Christmas.

Nookazon is fine and I think she’s unlikely to encounter any issues, but maybe just keep an eye when she goes to people’s towns and vice versa.

I actually think the animal crossing discord has a nicer feel than nookazon, and it’s well moderated.

With either of these, just bear in mind you are visiting stranger’s towns and they could be anyone. For that reason I’d make the rule that you oversee the chat.

Also be aware that both nookazon and discord say no under 13s and she can be reported and kicked off if she reveals her age. Another reason to do it under your umbrella/ watchful eye.

Most people who play animal crossing seem to be a harmless bunch, though! There’s a big following amongst my late teen/ early adult daughters and their peers, and amongst their parent’s generation like me, as they played Wild World when they were your DD’s age, and have stuck with every subsequent game.

Me too! It got me through lockdown. My town has had so many areas revamped over and over I can barely recognise the photos I took in March! Currently working on an outdoor Hamleys with loads of Christmassy stalls and a demo area for all the toys I’m amassing (the two DDs send me the toy that’s in their shop each day and I reciprocate). It takes hours and hours of work but it’s very satisfying.
