Or do you think it is no big deal?

Bloke in his 20's has discovered a "life hack" to get free food, he says. Any time he orders from just eat he eats his perfectly good meal then puts in a complaint claiming the food was cold on arrival. That results in him being refunded the cost of the meal thus getting it all for nothing.

In the comments he brags that he "hasn't paid for food in ages"

God knows how he has been allowed to get away with it more than once.

To think this person is scum?

@HitthatroadJack

Used to happen in restaurants too true, but most places are more than happy to accommodate if you complain after taking 1 bite, much less so if you wolf the whole thing down and complain after...
This

I would refund/ replace a meal if it had obviously been inedible. However if someone had scoffed the lot and THEN said it was awful- tough!

Rainbowandscarlett · 08/12/2020 11:39

I work in a well known fast food restaurant and you’d be amazed how often this happens
There will be a minor issue with their food and they demand the whole lot for free
It’s never on a small order-I’m talking £30+ orders
We take pride in getting everything right but mistakes do happen
They’ll kick off, screaming at me because their cheeseburger has cheese on it or something like that-and thankfully my boss takes no shit
He’s an idiot-and will soon find himself blacklisted
(And if your ever in a restaurant and your food is wrong, please come in and politely explain-I will bend over backwards to make it right-screaming at me will end up with you booted back out and banned)

Sparklfairy · 08/12/2020 11:39

Oh god. I still feel guilty from months ago when I had a 50% off Uber eats voucher. My mum can't get deliveries where she is so we planned that I would order to mine and she would pick me up and we would have it at hers and I would stay a few days too. I ordered but for delivery the next day. That night, the order turned up where they hadn't read it was a pre order. I felt bad for the wasted food and delivery guy so said it was fine, took it and put it in the fridge to heat at mums anyway.

The next evening when I was at mums, I saw a missed call and the restaurant had tried to deliver again Confused then I had an email saying they had refunded me!! So I could have got either two meals for one (with 50% off too), or as it happened a massive free takeaway. I felt so bad. To take advantage of restaurant policy of easy refunds for fear of bad reviews is abhorrent. Hopefully restaurants will blacklist him now!

"I knew a regional manager at Lunn Poly"

Sorry but Lunn Poly!! Grin I'd completely forgotten about them

MadameBlobby · 08/12/2020 11:50

He’s a cunt but the fault is with just eat for pandering to this shite in the first place.

Tryingtoslim · 08/12/2020 11:52

When I was in halls a few years ago we couldn’t order from deliveroo because the accommodation was blacklisted becayse of so many doing this, it’s wrong but people don’t care. I also lived with a boy who would often not pay for ubers because you can have one outstanding if you have no money in your account, so that driver presumably wouldn’t be payed, he didn’t care, some people have no morals

LindaEllen · 08/12/2020 11:52

It's theft. I always feel bad seeking a refund when things WERE wrong!

BlackCatShadow · 08/12/2020 11:52

He’s probably just bullshitting. Don’t believe everything you read on social media.

SnuggyBuggy · 08/12/2020 11:57

Given how often they cancel orders when too busy surely they'd just start recognising you and blacklist.

Am I a pushover for just sucking it up and sticking it in the oven or microwave if it's a bit cold?

nauticant · 08/12/2020 11:57

What will be his next life hack? How when he goes into a shop if no one is watching he takes something, puts it in his pocket, and then walks out of the shop without paying? How many social media likes will that get him?

Manolinette · 08/12/2020 12:02

Part bullshitting. But if he has blinked and I supplied someone like that I would think about bringing a private prosecution to send a message.

ekidmxcl · 08/12/2020 12:03

Theft, simple as that.

Sonofapizzaman · 08/12/2020 12:12

This is different from complaining in a restaurant because eating in a restaurant they’re unlikely to entertain you if you’ve eaten your whole dish. Delivery the complainer is at an ‘advantage’ although a lot of the time if you’ve ordered directly with the restaurant they’ll say they’ll come and pick it up if there’s an issue in order to avoid this.

I had a missing side from KFC via Uber Eats. I asked for a refund on the side and they refunded everything, including delivery! I felt really bad and was worried I wouldn't be able to order from there again.
rainkeepsfallingdown · 08/12/2020 12:20

@HunterHearstHelmsley Similar experience - I had a small missing item from Deliveroo and I just wanted the money back for that one item. Instead, they refunded the whole order. I did tell them it wasn't necessary, but they said that was the way things were set up.

VulvaPerson · 08/12/2020 12:29

That is fucking shocking, especially when businesses are in such unsure times.

That said, it should not be an option, so just eat I blame more than the fuckers abusing it I think. If the potential for abuse it there, people will take it. Something like this should be easy to keep an eye on though, as..well if every order was cold or had some problem, surely it becomes quite clear that its someone taking the piss.

I also kind of doubt this works? Unless things have changed recently, a few years back one of my orders did not turn up at all, and I had to fight fr a month for a refund, with just eat passing me to the restaurant, and back and forth for ages.

Growapair · 08/12/2020 12:30

Well done for advertising this and contributing to the problem

ittakes2 · 08/12/2020 12:30

I have voted YABU - this guys a dick but he’s just one person checking the system. You’ve now posted his life hack on a very bog forum I hope poor Just Eat doesn’t now get many more dicks like him trying to get a free meal. Thanks

yetanothernamitynamechange · 08/12/2020 12:34

Except when I was working in a restaurant people would sometimes be really really horrible to me/the waitress serving them in order to build up to their (fictional) complaint and eventually the manager would just refund them because he said even though he knew they were lying* it was still better than having them complain to Trip Advisor/Head Office. Really annoying when scumbags win. *because not only had they cleaned their plate, I had asked during the meal "is everything alright with your meal" and they had responded that it was grrrr
MistletoeandMoccasins · 08/12/2020 12:35

It is cheeky fuckery and galling - I had pizza the other night and it WAS freezing. The driver literally got lost and the manager had to ring him. Said manager had said he was on my doorstep and I said. Err no. Tis an empty street where I am stood on the doorstep freezing my ass off. No sign of him. I had already paid by card and just thought I will vote with my feet and collect in future.
I did not want to complain officially (Dominos) as I didn't want to get the local store and the driver especially in trouble. Are they franchises and I am just an idiot?

yetanothernamitynamechange · 08/12/2020 12:37

Even scummier are people who leave restaurants without paying because "teehee sticking it to the system". Except no your not, because the "system" will just take the cost of your meal+drinks out of the wages of the waitress who earns a third of what you do. Scummy, scummy scum.

WitchesSpelleas · 08/12/2020 12:37

Just Eat could stop this by saying supposedly inedible meals will only be refunded if returned uneaten, and sending someone out to pick the meal up. If it has more than a couple of bites out of it, no refund. A short term cost for the long term gain of getting rid of thieves like the man in the OP.

VulvaPerson · 08/12/2020 12:38

I had asked during the meal "is everything alright with your meal" and they had responded that it was grrrr

Tbf that doesn't mean that much, I think default reaction for most is just 'yeah its fine'. I have said that a few times then kicked myself for it as I could have brought up an issue and maybe had it sorted, but didn't as it seems awkward. Never tried to get a refund for it though. And would never expect one unless I had had literally one or two bites. Thoush who polish off the plate them whinge are just ridiculous.

Businesses are between a rock and a hard place though really, as so much weight is ut on social media reviews and such. The options are generally lose money now, or lose more money later, and all for the crime of serving an arsehole.

Plussizejumpsuit · 08/12/2020 12:39

Hmmm. I'm not sure I believe this as surely they would recognise the pattern. Its shitty but hardly the worst thing I've ever seen.

Rainbowandscarlett · 08/12/2020 12:40

@hunterHearstHemsley
We don’t deliver-we are a drive through/walk in
And you’d be amazed how many people DO walk in and start
I’ve been sworn at,punched,spat at,yelled at etc
All cos a burger had pickle or something in it-they demand a full refund on the whole order and want the food-and they always swear blind that their whole life has been ruined because of it

One bloke started swearing at me because he asked for a burger and I said ‘which one?’

Uber eats and deliveroo deal with complaints at their end-we just cook and wrap the food so if something is wrong they give the refunds not us-and they seem to just refund at the drop of a hat

95% of people are great-they let me deal with it and leave happy

It’s people like this bloke that mean I’m looking for another job
