She’s started something new

‘Alexa play radio 4’

‘OK, here’s BBBC. OK, here’s bbc radio 4K’

It’s driving DH mad(deer).

Ok. Mad deer?

GoldfishParade · 08/12/2020 07:05

What's maddeer?

Is there some special arrangement between Amazon and BBC?

The repeated reference to "BBC" when asked to play any BBC station is getting on my nerves too!

violetbunny · 08/12/2020 09:05

The other day I asked her what the weather would be like, and she said "Dreary"! Shock
The worst part was that she was wrong and so I got really hot in my outfit that day Grin

MynephewR · 08/12/2020 09:13

I quite like her. I quite often ask her for the time when I'm getting ready in my bedroom and my phone isn't near by. She tells me the time and then says something like "Hope you're having a great day" and I'm like "aww thanks alexa" 😂

CorianderQueen · 08/12/2020 09:23

I unplugged mine. She kept startling us awake by playing folk or bagpipe music when we slept. We've never asked her to play those while awake so can only assume one of us was muttering in our sleep.

Is there some special arrangement between Amazon and BBC?

I think it's actually the opposite, the BBC insist the radio stations are only available in their own BBC skill, so rather than Amazon just providing the radio as they would with other stations, it has to invoke the skill, the BBC skill is then completely over the top.

Dreary doesn't equal cold in my dialect though, so I think this may be a language difference, which highlights the problems of having a single "Alexa" that just talks, whatever weird dialect of English it talks.

GiraffeNecked · 08/12/2020 10:08

Madder....not mad deer. Though he is a mad dear.

Anyway - yes it's like she's making a point about the whole BBC ott situation....I don't need her to make a point - just play BBC R2 or 4 or Spotify. That's all we ever ask of her.

I don’t have an Alexa but if I did I would rather have an Alexander (Armstrong) one like Richard Osman has on House of Games.

violetbunny · 09/12/2020 09:36

@sirfredfredgeorge I certainly didn't expect "dreary" to mean hours and hours of sunshine and clear blue sky (we are heading into summer here). I was outside all afternoon and was sweltering!

SoupDragon · 09/12/2020 09:41

Google says "Streaming BBC Radio One from the BBC" so it's not just Alexa.
