Or do you have to go out on the beat for a few years first? I think solving cases would be fun but wouldn't fancy wandering around council estates trying to pick kids up for selling weed. Or hitting the streets and intervening in punch ups.

Vlad, I can’t see most of your posts as they have been deleted but I guess they are not complimentary and are abusive?

I’m the one who is part of the investigation into to the death of your loved one....RTC, Murder, Suicide, Accident or anything untoward. My motive is seeking answers and justice for you. Why the hatred?

I have a friend who works in CID and says that I could and should apply for a job in Intel due to my natural detective skills (nosiness). I have looked into it. You can also volunteer to help the police too, which might be a good avenue. I'm with you thoughOP. I am fascinated by crime and the causes of it.

My friend has put a lot of work into being a detective after many years as a PC. Im sure she would have a laugh if she heard someone referring to her job as having fun solving cases.🤭

Hey OP, why not get this to help with your research

I’ve just got in at 2am from dayshift and I start again at 8am. Today was certainly NOT fun and if I’m held on this late it’s because someone has been badly hurt or died. Which also isn’t fun.

Being a detective is the most stressful roles I have had in the police. The responsibility and accountability can be overwhelming sometimes and dealing with victims who have experienced trauma and stress is exhausting to deal with, and then to go and deal with the suspect.....

Thankfully we don’t have direct entry, thank fuck.

I’m too wired to sleep but need to try soon!

Christ, this is strongly reminiscent of the spike a few years back, in applications to do Forensics at university. Principally because people were watching 'CSI' and thinking is was all 'running things through CODIS and IAFIS', finding traces of blowfish poison or Manuka honey on the bodies of strippers, or swabbing poisoned wedding dresses, or people killed by frozen shit from airplane lavs. It's fucking humdrum, chum.

A family member is a DC doing covert work. She's been one for 11 years and as her work is confidential she doesn't talk about it. She does tell us about the disgusting sexist and misogynistic atmosphere that exists in her office. She does tell us that her pension has been fucked and she does tell us that the pressure from the hierarchy to be accountable and take responsibility for shit that happens in her team with no support from her bosses is making her ill. She is a very dedicated, conscientious police officer but would get out in a shot if she could find something else that paid as well. The pressure from within is affecting her mental health. I'm presuming the op is a troll.

Annoymou5e · 07/12/2020 23:20

Just get practising phases such as ‘get uniform to do it’, ‘this isn’t serious or complex’ and ‘that’s not in our remit’ and you will be solving murders in no time I’m sure 🤣

DontStopThinkingAboutTomorrow · 07/12/2020 23:27

Many police forces have graduate entry roles that bypass beat officers, I think.
I have an opinion on that, but I won't bore you with it!
Anyway, depends on the force I suppose.

@fuckedandbombed

It pains me that I'm probably not goi g to manage the bleep test at 60 . I have a wealth of experience and expertise and I'm good at my job . In reality at 60 I am not going to catch the 20 year old drug dealer . I have never, ever not had a good court result. I do my utmost for victims of crime and for me that is worth more than being able to run up and down for 5 minutes. I am not unfit . I just can't hit the speed needed for the bleep test .

And no I do t watch any crime dramas or documentaries. It's a busmans holiday - when I'm off I want to relax .

I should just add as a DC - it's not just the shifts but the workload. When you have 30 rape investigations on your crime list that you can't investigate because every time you get to work you have a new prisoner to interview and a new investigation on your list it gets to the point you can't relax. You know you're never getting to grips with those investigations because the work is just piled on and you don't get chance to conduct enquiries on your existing case load . Stress and sickness are rife In cid.
