Or do you have to go out on the beat for a few years first? I think solving cases would be fun but wouldn't fancy wandering around council estates trying to pick kids up for selling weed. Or hitting the streets and intervening in punch ups.

maybe the cat?

A cat would most likely be better at de-escalation than any police officer. A cat would make things exponentially better than an officer with an axe to grind.

During lockdown assaults on police went up massively. So I'm not quite getting your point vlad.
My colleagues since March - one had their jaw broken by a shoplifter who said he needed hospital treatment then spat at a nurse saying he had covid and bit the doctor
One had their ankle broken at a domestic
One had the tip of their finger bitten off following 2 passed up idiots trashing g a car
In every instance someone called 999 to ask for help from the police . And in every instance people , just like me , wives , mums , went to try and help those calling 999, only to be assaulted for doing so .
I'm not goi g to try and change your opinion- I'd just say if you don't like the police don't call them and don't commit crime - that way you'll never see a police officer. Jobs a good un .

Well vlad im glad you've such extensive knowledge on mental health and neighbourhood issues . That gives me lots of confidence that when we get called to all the mental health jobs that actually aren't a police issue we have such amazing resources such as yourself to rely on .

fuckedandbombed · 06/12/2020 22:10

Oh . Hang on .....

VladmirsPoutine · 06/12/2020 22:10

@fuckedandbombed sorry to hear about your colleagues but you're right I don't call them and never intend to, I also don't commit crimes so thankfully I'll never come across one. They instinctively know how to make a bad situation even worse. Who on earth would call them for help! Perhaps a lone white woman. Otherwise you'd probably end up in jail when they arrived.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 06/12/2020 22:11

By all means express your opinion in RL and at LA liaison meetings @VladmirsPoutine. I suggest you be more erudite than ACAB. You Don’t want folk thinking you’re thick or belligerent, or preoccupied with a grievance

Divebar · 06/12/2020 22:12

Well to say you don’t like police you don’t seem to want to leave the thread full of them.

VladmirsPoutine · 06/12/2020 22:16

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee I'm not worried about being seen to be thick or belligerent. Those are qualities police officers have in abundance and given I'm not one I'd say I'm pretty good!

berrygirlie · 06/12/2020 22:17

What utter nonsense, Vlad. There are abuses of justice within the police force, as there are examples of sexual assault in the medical field or embezzling in financial fields. But no-one is saying "All Nurses are Bastards" because it's utter pish.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 06/12/2020 22:17

I beg to differ @VladmirsPoutine you’ve been somewhat inarticulate on this thread
Maybe you’re losing your mojo.

fuckedandbombed · 06/12/2020 22:18

So vlad . You by your own admission have never called for help from police and never will - and yet you're so informed on how police work and what every single one is ? That's incredible! That would be like me making some sweeping assumptions about - oh I don't know - editors ? Writers ? Ethnic minorities? Women ? Men ? Gay people? Straight people? But I'm actually quite open minded and tolerant. I take as I find. Guess that's what makes me a decent police officer and not some closed minded fascist who makes these massive sweeping generalisations about people because I realise that people are individuals. Funny isn't it !

DogsAreBetterThanPeopleK · 06/12/2020 22:18

@VladmirsPoutine

ACAB.
Yawn.
HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 06/12/2020 22:20

It's not like it is in TV. It hours, days, weeks, months of monotonous paperwork, hearing no comment a million times. Mundane criminal activity not all murders.

It's up to the police to prove a person's guilt not the person to price their innocence.

berrygirlie · 06/12/2020 22:23

ACAB. Every. Single. One.

There are so few examples where every single one of something can be so easily categorised as "bastards".

Divebar · 06/12/2020 22:29

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee

I don’t think it’s an acronym I think it’s just the name of the database.

PlumsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 06/12/2020 22:29

@fuckedandbombed do you think detectives get assaulted at the same rates as uniformed police?

CakeRequired · 06/12/2020 22:29

You can take a route directly into detective, but based on your attitude, there's literally no chance of you passing.

You must be a troll or you're an idiot quite frankly. You are living in a dream world, thinking that you're going to be out witting psychopaths etc. No one does that. Psychologists diagnose psychopaths, that's about it. Psychopaths aren't all criminal masterminds and you don't even realise that.

The things you will witness as a detective are quite frankly horrific and I doubt you have the psychological capability to handle it. Give up on your dream or stop drinking the wine. You haven't got a chance.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 06/12/2020 22:30

@berrygirlie I love the inclusion of utter pish
Pish is such a good expletive it’s not like proper swearing.
Pish it’s Onomatopoeic

berrygirlie · 06/12/2020 22:32

It's is one of my favourite semi-expletives, @HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee. Really just rams home the pishiness of it all I think in a way that "shit" doesn't!

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 06/12/2020 22:32

@Divebar oh I thought MERLIN was an acronym for summat
So it’s the name of a database. I see . I have asked before and no one knew

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 06/12/2020 22:33

@berrygirlie
I agree, pish it’s a versatile expletive

fuckedandbombed · 06/12/2020 22:34
@fuckedandbombed do you think detectives get assaulted at the same rates as uniformed police?
No. But the risk is still there and for whatever reason dc's forget they have radios and stab vests ! The. Shout for help from response if it goes tits up.....but generally detectives are dealing with suspects AFTER arrest. They aren't all nice obviously but the risks are less . The hours and stress are more . The weight of responsibility is more . Getting serious and complex investigations to court is a massive responsibility.
