I use M&S party food as starters. The favourite being the filo cases with brie and cranberry. I serve them mid morning and then just get on with sorting the dinner. It means that people aren't totally ravenous come time for dinner. We don't sit at the table and I usually buy good quality Christmas paper plates and matching napkins so very little washing up. It works for us but some prefer to sit at the table with formal starter. I find it makes for less stress.

My MIL (who is lovely) wants prawn cocktail as a starter and DH wants soup. I’ll be buying the premade prawn cocktail pots and adding salad in Grin and a “naice” premade soup!

We got the scallops in a sauce from Aldi last year. They were really good, in fact we're having them again this year. They come in a shell and were in the frozen section. They are only small which is what we wanted in a starter.
