Houses that are to cold!! House’s that are to hot, houses that don’t have a easy to find tea coffee sugar canasters kettle and mugs all easy to find and use. Staying at anyone’s house that does not have a quilt big enough for the bed, and cheap pillows!! To be quiet truthfully the older I get the less I like staying in other peoples home over night!! I just want my own bed!,

2021optimist · 06/12/2020 17:14

I have ordered a towel holder for the downstairs loo on reading this. Sorry previous guests!

I don't have bathroom bins (we don't need them) but I'll buy some as soon as the kids start bringing girls back to avoid any san pro embarrassment (I would feel very guilty if I embarrassed anyone).

topcat2014 · 06/12/2020 17:19

I'm chair of governors. Never invited anywhere..:)

MRSMARMITE3 · 06/12/2020 17:31

People who leave their curtains shut all the time, or open all the time. No bathroom bin. No lock on the bathroom. Cat litter trays that don't get emptied. I have a friend who's really clean, her house is immaculate (unlike mine) yet she has a litter tray in the kitchen and there's normally 4 poos in it. 🤮. I had a housemate who generally was dirty and the worst thing was she had all her dirty cotton buds from her ears on the side near her bed. I mean it's her room but still IT'S GROSS

Jayne35 · 06/12/2020 17:34

@LST

I don't like dirty houses. But not much else.

I do have a loo in my utility. I dont know why that would be a problem?

Same, don’t see an issue with my tumble dryer and shelves of cleaning stuff in the loo.

Also to the anti pet posters, our dog is allowed on the furniture (it’s her home, visitors can like it or lump it) but I use blankets and throws which are washed regularly.

GreenShadow · 06/12/2020 17:43

Oh dear. You'd all hate our house.
We have bright lighting throughout. So we can, like, see things, read etc...
Only lamps are on bedside tables.

(But we do have bathroom bins).

FredtheCatsMum · 06/12/2020 17:47

I always, always take a bit piece of cotton fabric (about 1x 3m) with me when I stay somewhere else. It has been a wrap around me, a curtain on a bathroom, a curtain on a bedroom, a bag, a sheet, a sleeping cover, a head covering and veil (muslim country), a towel.

Ddot · 06/12/2020 17:49

Henio
You supposed to, who else is going to sweep up the mess. I'm forever cleaning up my whole street. 🤬

God, there are some right mingers about. All the above, especially houses with dogs, which always stink, and I do not understand the not having bins in the kitchen and bathroom. Are these people the ones flushing wipes, floss etc down the toilet? Can't imagine using floss, putting it to one side, then going off to another room to put it goodness knows where. As many PPs have said, even if you for whatever reason think it's wrong to have a bathroom bin, do you not give the slightest thought to your guests?

GrinchnotHinch · 06/12/2020 18:02

I genuinely don’t mind anything in other people’s homes.. because it’s their home

But there’s certainly things in mine that I respect people wouldn’t feel comfortable with 😂

  • House smells of incense
  • Snakes in the living room
  • Rottweiler in the garden
  • You will get pet hair on you
  • I have to pause the TV or have it off if we talk (because of sensory overload) and a lot of people like it on in the background

I’ve had many people, even professionals refuse to enter my house because of the snakes/dog (I can put the dog out but not the rest of it ha!)

GrinchnotHinch · 06/12/2020 18:04

I do respect people’s phobias though and accommodate best I can, I have to warn every single person that needs in incase they’re scared of snakes Blush

AliceMadHatter · 06/12/2020 18:05

I am very sociable but don't like staying in other peoples homes or having people staying over. The only annoying things some people don't seem to like are our two dogs. They are allowed on the leather sofa which I clean often. I also hoover a lot. Their home though so tough to anyone who doesn't like them.

Harls1969 · 06/12/2020 18:06

And this is why I rarely invite people round Grin

linsey2581 · 06/12/2020 18:10

What’s wrong with not having a bin in the bathroom??? I’ve never had a bin in the bathroom

We don't have overnight guests. So no need to worry about guests floss etc.
RUOKHon · 06/12/2020 18:12

People that leave tea bags on the side! Or pile them up on a plate, why?!

I leave them on the side to cool down and then put them in the compost. I read somewhere that you shouldn’t put hot tea bags straight in the bin and then close the lid because the steam collects on the underside of the lid and creates bin juice. Or something like that. Anyway, I can’t not do it now.

I will just make the point again, because I feel like it can’t be stressed enough, that a lock on the bathroom door and a bathroom bin are the bare minimum things needed to make guests feel comfortable. Imagine being at someone’s house and having to change sanpro and then either traipsing it through the kitchen in front of everyone or worse, screwing it up and shoving it in your handbag until you get home Envy

HikeForward · 06/12/2020 18:14

People who insist we take our shoes off

Why wouldn’t you take your shoes off? All our visitors do so automatically!

We have a guestroom with en-suite so I just make sure it’s clean and tidy, provide 3 towels per person (bath sheet, towel and hand/face towel) a lidded bin and show them how the blinds and windows work.
There’s always cleaning stuff in their bathroom cupboard, most guests clean before they go. Spare loo rolls and a basket of mixed travel toiletries so I don’t get a guest waking me at 11pm asking if I have a spare toothbrush!!

VinylDetective · 06/12/2020 18:18

even if you for whatever reason think it's wrong to have a bathroom bin, do you not give the slightest thought to your guests?

No. Because I don’t want to clear other people’s floss, period products and other unpleasant rubbish up. They can put it in the kitchen bin.

VinylDetective · 06/12/2020 18:20

Imagine being at someone’s house and having to change sanpro and then leaving it for them to clear up. Not nice, is it?

HesSpartacus · 06/12/2020 18:24

Chipped cups / mugs.

The smell of wet dog food.

Being offered butter and then finding out it's spreadable crap containing veg oil when you bite into your sandwich.

See through doors in the ensuite. No, I do not want to see dh do a poo.

I agree, I don't to clear others peoples and wouldn't expect others to clear mine.

We don't have many sleepovers. I do have a bin in the bathroom though.

Erm what worse than a guest having to carry it into the kitchen to put in the kitchen bin . If it's in the bathroom bin why would you need to clear it up it's in a bin you just tie the bln bag and throw outside but I wouldn't expect a guest to do that . I'd expect a guest to wrap it in tissue and place in bathroom bin not carry it passing everyone and putting in kitchen bin .
TeachesOfPeaches · 06/12/2020 18:26

Based on this thread I've had a bathroom bin and hand towels delivered today

You have a bin liner in and just tie it up and drop it in the wheelie bin.
