Are Londoners more intelligent?

My Dad made a big thing when we moved out of London ( Zone 6 type expensive green Commuter belt area). We moved into North Hampshire. He basically was saying that outside the magical barrier of the M25 that the level of education is a lot lower. My Dc are just at the start of their school journeys and I have nothing to compare to. But his thoughts were that if my DC was top of their class in Hampshire that would be lower than in London. I'm guessing this depends on area of London? Also our estate agent said we shouldn't move out as we would struggle to get back in.

‘Do you catch the thick?’ 😂😂😂😂😂

Like some dumb miasma that coats everywhere except London and sucks your brains out.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 04/12/2020 14:04

Is this a joke thread? Bloody hell OP, presumably you've grown up in London and you must be thick as a brick shit house if you believe this one Grin

BrandyandDeath · 04/12/2020 14:06

TIL glottal stops = sign of intelligence.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 04/12/2020 14:07
Hmm
day7 · 04/12/2020 14:09

It could be said that London is a talent drain though

middleager · 04/12/2020 14:09

I needed a laugh.
I watch Eastenders sometimes for the mental stimulation.

Don’t you mean a drain - metaphorically, of course?
EmbarrassingMama · 04/12/2020 14:28

Did your Dad say that the schools are better, or was that what he was getting at, at least?

Because you ought to be aware - as a Londoner - that Londoner's are obviously not going to be any more intelligent than any other people. However London does have a lot of good schools (there is a high concentration of excellent public schools); was it this that he was referring to, perhaps? I suppose it might well be the case that you'd have access to better education because of the many schools then you might do if you moved to a village which only had one under-performing school.

The 'don't move out of London because you'll never be able to move back in' mentality is a financial one and tends to be the case. There are many people who can move in and out, but for the most once people decide to leave and invest in property elsewhere it makes little sense to move back in.

PlanDeRaccordement · 04/12/2020 14:37

It’s not intelligence, but education. And it’s a well known fact that the U.K. has given extra funding to London schools since 2011. So the state schools in London are the best resourced and performing state schools in the country.

Janegrey333 · 04/12/2020 14:38

How amusing to note that some people are taking this question at face value...

Slothkin · 04/12/2020 14:51

I would have assumed from her username @tttigress was referring to Puss-in-Boots.

It’s not an unreasonable question OP; beyond the M25 you do have to choose between whippets and drizzle and cider and incest.

Has your Dad at any point heard of Oxford or Cambridge Universities?

SlothWithACloth · 04/12/2020 16:48

@Slothkin I’m sure statistics will show that a good proportion of those at oxford and Cambridge are from London. Or have been to London. Or have had family members live or visit London.
There’s no denying it.

SlightDrizzle · 04/12/2020 16:51

But they just replace cider and incest with debagging boaties and burning fifty-pound notes in front of tramps while dressed in tailcoats.

It's practically the same unLondon-y thing.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 04/12/2020 16:53

@tothinkofsomething

I'm talking generally, general level of intelligence, obviously there are intelligent people living all over. Is there statistics on this ?
Dear God.
SilverOtter · 04/12/2020 16:56

I'm from oop north. I got into medical school.

Although perhaps they only let me in to make up numbers 🤔

bungaloid · 04/12/2020 17:01

People in London typically earn more money, hence they are both more intelligent and hard working than the rest of the UK.

Slothkin · 04/12/2020 17:02

@SlightDrizzle If you thought I was being remotely serious my apologies! I know intent can be easily lost online!

RIPWalter · 04/12/2020 17:02

I yes i'm really stupid. I live in a national park in a house that I can afford to pay off by the time I'm 45 whilst working part time. So so stupid!!!

SlightDrizzle · 04/12/2020 17:02

Oh okay we’re fine and dandy and you made me laugh a lot 🤗
Slothkin · 04/12/2020 17:17

Before I leave this thread I must confess: I have been to London. The lights! The people! The magical underground trains!

Still not as good as an outing to Shepreth Wildlife Park. They have TWO hairy armadillos!

RednaxelasLunch · 04/12/2020 17:28

Yes, now please stay in London. Can you please tell all the Londoners to stop buying houses outside London, it's making it hard for the rest of us to get on the housing ladder to breed our whippets adequately. I assume since you are all crammed into a few square miles you all know each other. Just send a pigeon round or summat. Cheers!

newstart1234 · 04/12/2020 17:30

😄

Dionysus78 · 04/12/2020 17:32

@Wannakisstheteacher

Gosh yes. We are in Hampshire and my 12 yer old can't even read but is top of his class.

Did you know that in magical London Town the average cleaner is actually more intelligent than a Doctor living outside the M25?

You know cleaners can be well educated and/or intelligent, yes?
