To not get the hype about Hype?

As in the kids/teens clothing brand.

These T-shirts seem popular and I like the striking designs, so looked at a few to get DS for Christmas.
I was quite disappointed to learn that they’re all 100% polyester. Awful, sweat inducing synthetic rubbish. And they’re not cheap!

Just can’t understand how they seem to have become so popular given that this is the fabric they use.

I agree. My children have their pencil cases and lunchboxes but the polyester t shirts are awful. I much prefer cotton for t shirts

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 03/12/2020 19:12

I haven't actually seen any of their goods up close BUT I really dont like the full stop after the word - Hype.

Don't know why it annoys me, but it really does.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 03/12/2020 20:58

Honestly, i have no idea what clothes are made of and wouldn’t be able to tell you if a tshirt was polyester, cotton or anything else.

I look for cuts, colours and (very occasionally) designs i like. I suppose if i was questioned i might consider that a nicer feeling fabric would be pleasant, but i would never think about it otherwise. If it’s a teenagers brand i imagine they think similarly.

I don't remember giving a damn about what an item of clothing was made of when I was a teenager, if it was trendy and I wanted it Grin

MarthasGinYard · 03/12/2020 21:01

Be careful ordering directly from them. Awful ratings.

Sideorderofchips · 03/12/2020 21:03

Backpacks are good though

SingleHandSue · 03/12/2020 21:04

I didn’t realise Hype was still popular.

I remember getting DS1 a T-shirt about 4/5 years ago and the quality was pretty good if I remember rightly.

thebakeoffwasntasgoodthisyear · 03/12/2020 21:11

DS used to like Hype - I found the t-shirts shrank in the wash and went bobbly quickly. He had a backpack and the stitching came loose after a few weeks. I was glad when the Hype phase passed!

AlwaysLatte · 03/12/2020 21:17

Agreed! My son has a bag and pencil case, they're ok. But I bought a bunch of T shirts and the quality was awful - not a patch on supermarket clothes!! But obviously way cooler... he loves them 🤔

AlwaysLatte · 03/12/2020 21:21

But the bag, whilst pretty good quality , has the zip under a sort of lip all the way around (and no drinks holder - I said he could choose a bag with a drinks holder and he insisted on this. Guess what: he kept struggling with the zip and put the water bottle in side next to his books. I ended up just buying a Nike backpack(easier zip, external drink holder and slightly bigger) and hiding the other bag for a while and he loves the new bag. That was a waste of money!

gaggiagirl · 03/12/2020 21:23

I think their backpacks are brilliant. DD has used the same one for years it's held up brilliantly.
Can't comment on the clothing though.

bluebearss · 03/12/2020 21:28

What @RubaiyatOfAnyone said.

Teens don't care what fabric something is made of, I imagine. I'm 30 and haven't once looked at a single T-shirt's label to see whether it's cotton, polyester or a blend in my life. I might shop by touch (or did, pre Covid!) and feel whether I like a fabric or not, and do choose cotton for baby DS, but then most baby gros are cotton anyway! Certainly didn't care a jot as a teen.

motherofawhirlwind · 03/12/2020 22:15

Had 3 bags in a row with open seams or other issues. Gave up eventually. Won't go near them again.

WillSantaBeComingToTown · 03/12/2020 22:19

Their customer service is appalling - sent me the wrong thing- £13 to return (they won't send a label). They won't reply to any emails and so far the items haven't been refunded never mind the postage

I refused the 2nd parcel at the door- I had been overcharged on that one and `I wasn't prepared to try and deal with them any more. That hasn't been refunded

They also sell on amazon where there original rrp are often much lower than the rrp they claim on their own site before they offer their reductions. That seems to be over inflation to make reductions seem larger.
