Is this an awkward icebreaker?

Had an interview and was asked if I preferred being called Charlotte or Charlie (example): responded, 'oh, Charlie please, Charlotte is what I used to get called when my mum was telling me off' - was trying to be humorous but now cursing myself for social awkwardness...

I think you're over thinking it. It was a pretty innocuous comment.

MissConductUS · 02/12/2020 15:16

Sounds like a perfectly normal comment to me. Lots of people prefer an informal version of their first name.

Good luck getting the job.

TiaandTamera · 02/12/2020 15:18

Completely normal comment, don't worry about it.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 02/12/2020 15:50

As long as they don't call you Chuck.
Seriously, I wouldn't bat an eyelid if someone said that.

AlwaysCheddar · 02/12/2020 15:55

It’s fine!!

OneToThree · 02/12/2020 15:58

A normal comment to make imo.

AnneLovesGilbert · 02/12/2020 16:00

Sounds fine. And good they asked you. I hate people shortening my name without permission. Which I’d never give.

Fluffybutter · 02/12/2020 16:03

It’s absolutely fine and a very normal thing to say but I totally get the overthinking it , I do it with everything .

CuppaZa · 02/12/2020 16:03

Completely fine

dudsville · 02/12/2020 16:05

Overthinking it, you're fine op!

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 02/12/2020 16:05

It’s what I always say when people ask me whether I prefer Lizzie or Elizabeth (not my real name). Totally normal.

DrDavidBanner · 02/12/2020 16:15

i use the shortened version of my name and that's what I say too. Wouldn't think about it too much, but its good that they asked.

user541633589911 · 02/12/2020 16:18

Lots of people say that. You're massively over thinking.

TillyTopper · 02/12/2020 16:18

That's fine, you're overthinking it!

JustAnotherUserinParadise · 02/12/2020 16:18

I also use a shortened name and often have this conversation!
eg
person: Hi Charlotte how are you today?
me: Oh charlie please, I'm only charlotte when I'm in trouble!

BoyTree · 02/12/2020 16:26

One of the people I admire the most said that today-- you're fine!
