To ask if you have had your 100 or 200 pound payment from the government (winter fuel payment) yet?

My mum had hers weeks ago.

Oap43 · 01/12/2020 20:27

Is this an automatic thing if you’re claiming certain benefits or do you have to apply?

Nanasueathome · 01/12/2020 20:33

I’ve had the letter but not the money yet

Oap43 · 01/12/2020 20:34

@funinthesun19

If you were born on or before 5 October 1954 should be automatic. A single person gets 200 or if more than one person is eligible 100 each

@Nanasueathome

Same. Had the letter early last week.

My mum doesn’t need to apply as she gets a full state pension. She did get a letter shortly before it arrived though, saying that it could be paid at any point over the forthcoming months. I remember thinking that if we had a bad winter, lots of people would need it sooner than they’d be receiving it. I assumed they were doing it alphabetically as her surname is near the beginning of the alphabet.

Oap43 · 01/12/2020 20:37

@Sn0tnose

Hopefully soon then. That’s what I assumed too . My surname begins with D

Last year DH and I received £100 each.
Last week I had a letter to say that they'll be paying me £200 "because you do not live with someone else who qualifies".
Er, yes I do! I still live with DH, and I can't understand why their (apparently fully automated, and based on what I received last year) system thinks my circumstances have changed. Can I get through to them on the phone? Of course not, it's constantly engaged Angry

Missingthesea · 02/12/2020 13:06

Hooray, finally managed to speak to a lovely lady at the Winter Fuel Payt Centre. All sorted. Apparently the problems are being caused by a new system. As a result they have loads of people ringing them whose payments then have to be arranged/rearranged manually!

lifestooshort123 · 02/12/2020 14:50

Had my letter but no money yet. Last year their computer reckoned that as I lived in a block of flats we were all co-habiting so only entitled to £100! When I spoke to someone there he said I'd need to wait until March so they could investigate me - bloody cheek, their mistake. Anyway, this winter letter is back to £200.

lazylump72 · 02/12/2020 16:53

my mum had hers 2 weeks ago ..

ClickandForget · 02/12/2020 17:30

Nanasueathome · 10/12/2020 10:50

Mine came today
I also had the £10 Christmas bonus earlier in the week

roarfeckingroarr · 10/12/2020 10:55

Nanasueathome · 10/12/2020 10:58

It’s for people of pensionable age

Has been going for a long, long time. I can remember my parents having this around 20 years ago

It’s a payment to help towards winter fuel bills

lifestooshort123 · 10/12/2020 12:41

Still haven't had mine but got my £10 bonus.

KaMai · 10/12/2020 16:50

As long as claim has been accepted its any time till 31st march

Nanasueathome · 10/12/2020 18:46

The letter actually states to contact them by 23/12 if you have not received your payment by then

Will it be 5/10/55 next year? If so, I'll get one!

lifestooshort123 · 10/12/2020 20:02

You need to be actually claiming the state pension or another benefit - if you've deferred the pension then you'll need to wait for the extra payment.
