Here it is.
Thanks @BruceandNosh for the title.

And still we persist.

Putin acknowledged Biden's win before McConnell did...

BruceAndNosh · 15/12/2020 15:35

The votes have to get through Louis Dejoy's USPS to reach Pence...

EveryoneRevealsThemselves · 15/12/2020 15:39

Also you missed out all the hideous praising of Trump that Mcconell started his speech with.

DGRossetti · 15/12/2020 15:41

Now, we will wait for the outcry or 'traitor' from the far right and Scrotus. One thing I think Mitch has done is to underestimate his 'power' over the lunatic fringe that are Scrotus' most ardent fans. Even Moses bringing stone tablets down from Sinai won't convince them that the election wasn't 'stolen'. The only person who will convince them of that is Scrotus himself. Or maybe 'Q' or Alex Jones.

No one ever lost money overestimating how stupid people are.

I've said before ... even if Trump himself appeared on Fox news and conceded and said the election was as fair as possible (the most rigorously conducted in US history ?) and that Biden is the clear winner and that Americans need to always unite behind their legitimately elected president:

  • some would claim it was a deepfake video
  • some would say it was recorded under duress and that "they" were holding Melania hostage to ensure Trumps compliance
  • that the real Donald J Trump had been murdered and replaced by a Chinese clone
  • That it was an effect of the Chinese virus, and that Trump was under it's influence

...

rinse and repeat. Also remember to mix in God, aliens, the Galactic Federation* and any other bullshit that means you can avoid thinking for yourself. This is why I have banged on and on about why you don't give in to stupid. Because it never stops.

I suspect the hideous praising of Trump was a way of buttering him up before giving the bad news. He's probably concerned that he might be the latest person to be accused of treason and then 'sentenced to death' by Trump's lynch mob.

Used to be a thing - certainly in the 70s - that politicians were taught how to communicate with security forces in the event of being kidnapped.

One technique - designed to circumvent the situation of reading a prepared statement - was to use emphasis and pauses to signal as much as you could. So being forced to read a statement on a foreign TV channel could still get vital information to "home".

Famously Jeremiah Denton was able to blink "TORTURE" to TV crews that were made to film his "confession" to the Vietcong.

I wonder what reading those letters in that light might reveal ? Maybe we need James May on the case ?

(On that note, I wonder how long after Trump being kidnapped before the US got a plea from the kidnappers to please, please take him back. We'll pay you ... )

I was vaguely remembering a film with Bette Midler ... Ruthless People ?

I've not read RotRC - sounds fun.

Of course the OG for "funny" kidnap stories is (as usual) from the classics. Julius Caesar - who suggested his captors increase their ransom 5-fold. Which they did. And it was paid. They really should have listened to him in captivity though, as he told them - probably with a smile - that he would return when free, and he would track them down and he would kill them (you might be able to imagine Liam Neeson in the role Grin). All of which he did. Mind you, he wasn't a sadist. He had their throats cut before crucifying them.

That's like the thing about "Oh he was so cruel, he had the witch burned using green wood so it would take longer" -- no, he had green wood used so the smoke would asphyxiate her before the flames reached her.

A record-shattering first day of early voting in the Georgia runoff: 168k vote in-person yesterday, up from 136k on day one of in-person early voting for the general election

Good to see.

I keep reading stories about how much money is being put into this runoff. Money only goes so far - the Maine race was one of the most expensive Senate races ever, but the candidate who was less well-funded still won.

Eventually all the money can really do is buy yet more ad space, and voters are so so so sick of constant ads.

I really feel for the people of Georgia.

To some extent Trump is acting like someone who believes they genuinely did buy the election and can't understand what is happening. When you get that narcissistic, you are really a swindlers dream.

My (very limited) knowledge of German doesn't allow me to know if there is any deeper linguistics in "Crown" and "Clown" in German. Nonetheless, so much for no humour Grin

www.theneweuropean.co.uk/brexit-news/europe-news/brexit-comedy-sketch-the-clown-6754028

A German television show has mocked Boris Johnson and his Brexit proposals in a spoof of Netflix's The Crown entitled 'The Clown'.

I speak German, lived and studied there for a year, but can't help you, Krone and Clown, or maybe Hanswurst.

It reminded me of the Netherlands First video Grin

www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/kamala-harris-gun-reforms-sandy-hook-b1774434.html

'Vice President-elect Kamala Harris has called for "common-sense" gun reforms on the eighth anniversary of the Sandy Hook mass shooting in order to “honor the lives” of its victims.

On Monday, Ms Harris marked the anniversary of the tragedy with a tweet alongside a photo of those killed during the 2012 mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

“Today marks eight years since 20 first-graders and six educators were murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School,” the Vice President-elect wrote.

"To honor the lives lost in this terrible tragedy, it’s past time we implement common-sense gun safety reforms to keep our children safe."'
