Now, we will wait for the outcry or 'traitor' from the far right and Scrotus. One thing I think Mitch has done is to underestimate his 'power' over the lunatic fringe that are Scrotus' most ardent fans. I suspect the hideous praising of Trump was a way of buttering him up before giving the bad news. He's probably concerned that he might be the latest person to be accused of treason and then 'sentenced to death' by Trump's lynch mob.

Used to be a thing - certainly in the 70s - that politicians were taught how to communicate with security forces in the event of being kidnapped.

One technique - designed to circumvent the situation of reading a prepared statement - was to use emphasis and pauses to signal as much as you could. So being forced to read a statement on a foreign TV channel could still get vital information to "home".

Famously Jeremiah Denton was able to blink "TORTURE" to TV crews that were made to film his "confession" to the Vietcong.

I wonder what reading those letters in that light might reveal ? Maybe we need James May on the case ?

Of course the OG for "funny" kidnap stories is (as usual) from the classics. Julius Caesar - who suggested his captors increase their ransom 5-fold. Which they did. And it was paid. I keep reading stories about how much money is being put into this runoff. Money only goes so far - the Maine race was one of the most expensive Senate races ever, but the candidate who was less well-funded still won.
