@lionheart

My goodness this election business is a drawn out affair.
It's so different in UK. Election on a Thursday and if you lose, you are normally clearing your desk on Friday and down the Job Centre on Monday
BruceAndNosh · 14/12/2020 22:04

@Anniegetyourgun

So random partisan drop boxes are OK, and official drop boxes are not OK. Got it.
That's the ticket!
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 14/12/2020 22:05

Just as absentee ballots are Patriotic but mail-in ballots are the invention of the Evil One.

chomalungma · 14/12/2020 22:06

For any Americans who might not have seen UK results election result...

This is the result for when Boris Johnson won his Uxbridge seat. The Prime Ministers seat usually attracts a lot of people who want to stand in the same election

A Republican with a conscience!

It would be more meaningful if he had done it while still occupying a seat rather than after retirement, though.

AcrossthePond55 · 14/12/2020 22:29

California electors confirm Biden gets 55 votes.

Biden is officially over the top with 302.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 14/12/2020 22:31

You are swifter than the Washington post.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 14/12/2020 22:31

I watched a CNN Jake Tapper interview with Rep Mitchell earlier tonight. Mitchell is a very conservative politician who I personally would never support but he is clearly a decent human being with recognisable morals and a belief in democracy. It was quite a moving interview and I felt very sorry for him that he felt compelled to leave the party he had supported all his life and is now an Independent. Tapper said after the interview that Mitchell had not left the Republican Party but the Party had left him.

I watched it live on local TV.
Mittens030869 · 14/12/2020 22:42

I agree, OP, we really should congratulate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. I've also been very impressed by the way they've been able to go about their business preparing for when he officially takes office. They've behaved with dignity throughout the drama of the last month.

AcrossthePond55 · 14/12/2020 22:43

William Barr just resigned

About all those pieces of news.

AcrossthePond55 · 14/12/2020 22:50

@lionheart

Robinette?
It's his paternal grandmother's maiden name.

Joe's a Jr, so it was his dad's name too.

Not sure about the UK but in the US it's not unusual to give a child their mother's maiden name as a middle name.

Early in-person voting begins in Georgia Senate runoffs.
apnews.com/article/georgia-senate-run-off-voting-ca8ae1d3b068e5d984d9a452be1069d1

In contrast to the first day of early voting in October, when more than 125,000 people cast ballots and some people lined up for hours, few long lines were reported Monday.

One question was how many mail-in ballots will be cast in the election. By Friday, 1.2 million mail-in ballots had been requested and 200,000 returned. In the general election, Democrat Joe Biden won 65% of the 1.3 million absentee ballots that were returned in Georgia, a record fueled by the coronavirus pandemic.

Fraga said it’s possible that mailed ballots will be even more favorable for Democrats in the runoff because of attacks on the integrity of mail-in voting by Trump and many Georgia Republicans.

That means early in-person voting, which Trump narrowly won in November, could be even more important for Republicans. Both parties may also drive voters toward the early polls with the Christmas and New Year’s holidays looming.

Trump still seems to be BFF with Barr.

It used to be pretty common, but not so much these days. My grandfather’s middle name was his mother’s maiden name - Smith

Did Trump write Bill Barr's resignation letter himself?
