Here it is.
Thanks @BruceandNosh for the title.

And still we persist.

The ending of the response

At bottom, Texas seeks to invoke this Court’s original jurisdiction to achieve the extraordinary relief of disenfranchising all Pennsylvanians who voted and one-tenth of the voters in the entire Nation. Such relief
would, of course, be “drastic and unprecedented, disenfranchising a huge swath of the electorate.” Donald J. Trump for President, Inc., 2020 WL 7012522, at *7.

In support of such a request, Texas brings to the Court only discredited allegations and conspiracy theories that have no basis in fact. And Texas asks this Court to contort its original jurisdiction jurisprudence in an election where millions of people cast ballots under truly extraordinary circumstances, sometimes risking their very health and safety to do so.

Accepting Texas’s view would do violence to the Constitution and the
Framers’ vision, and would plunge this Court into “one of the most intensely partisan aspects of American political life.”

Wow. They managed that quickly. So well written, even A complete beginner like me could understand

Here are the names of the 106 Republican House members trying to overturn Joe Biden's win.

The Kraken /Sidney Powell lawsuits were laughably inept but fed the Qanon conspiracy nuts.
The Texas v Penn et al application to SCOTUS is breathtakingly ridiculous and will never succeed.
But the 17 or so States weighing in to support, plus GOP members of Congress, plus the Pennsylvania legislature effectively demanding its own illegitimacy.... These are all deeply troubling.
Not from a legal point of view, I don't believe even Trump's pet Justices will support this. But it is a concerted attack on democracy and the entire set up of the United States as we know it.
Trump and the GOP are like husbands that murder their own family. If they can't run the US, then they damn well will make sure it is ungovernable by any one else.

BruceAndNosh · 11/12/2020 09:16

That will have Trump screaming into his breakfast
BruceAndNosh · 11/12/2020 09:19

And I absolutely predict that Trump will tweet-trash TIME as an out of date publication that no one reads any more.
(Despite the fact that mock ups of the cover of TIME featuring Trump used to be prominently displayed in his golf properties until it became widely publicised that they were fake)

@ReadyFreddy

Is this....a thread about a thread? 🤔
No, it's a thread about its preceding 114 threads

Hmmm

Wire fraud ?

lionheart · 11/12/2020 13:35

Maybe. The investigations, litigation and prosecutions from the Trump period will last decades.

So utterly depressing. This sums the whole damn thing up, unfortunately:
The foundation of that system is that the people vote, we count the votes, and the winner takes office. The GOP is now saying, “No. We win, no matter what. And if the people vote for a Democrat, then they must simply be overruled.”
Disgusting, but true today.

FridayNightAtTheBronze · 11/12/2020 14:04

The GOP are showing right now that they don't actually care what happens to their country as long as they stay in power.

And in the meantime, 3000 people are dying daily, whilst their President spends all his time on Twitter.

January 20th can't come soon enough, and hopefully some sort of change will be made to the legislation of the election and transition period to make sure this can't ever happen again.

TheSilveryPussycat · 11/12/2020 15:26

I think he means that a Biden administration would be a mess, and therefore the Supreme Court should overturn the election.

But he thinks it will be a mess so has all but conceded in his head, and it slipped out.

Nah, that's the phonetic spelling.

Loooooz-y-anah. Usually preceded by 'The Gret Stet of"

Actually I love Louisiana. Beautiful state and generally lovely and welcoming people.

"Laissez les bons temps rouler, mes amis!"
"Oui, cher!"

On to more important things:

www.supremecourt.gov (Calendar at the bottom)

Today is a "Conference Day". Per the website "the Justices meet in a private conference to discuss cases argued earlier that week. The Justices also discuss and vote on petitions for review. The building is open to the public but the Justices do not take the Bench."

Monday is an "Order List Day", defined on the website as "Order lists reflect actions taken by the Court on a particular case, which might include setting the case for argument, issuing a memorandum decision, refusing to issue a rule to show cause, dismissal, or other appropriate action".

So today the SCOTUS meets presumably to discuss whether or not the Tx lawsuit will actually be allowed to be filed. And I wouldn't be surprised if we hear nothing until Monday's 'Order List' is released.

But Monday is the day Congress is supposed to accept the certified results ?

How much would I get for a $5 stake if I suggested that Trump is going to try to invent the post of "former POTUS" as a magic wand to ward of legal action ?

TheSilveryPussycat · 11/12/2020 16:04

Or rather he thinks there will be a Biden administration (of whatever kind) and it just slipped out.

I just had a look at the Guardian and they say oretty much the same thing.

Monday is the Electoral College vote. The Joint Session date is 6 Jan. At this point I think he's pinning his hopes on the Joint Session and objections being raised. The rest is theatre fundraising.

What was it Putin did? He couldn't be President anymore (don't remember why) so he created the office of Prime Minister for himself and then later became President again (don't remember how). So yes, I could see Scrotus wanting to do something similar. I don't know what he'd call himself though. 'Prime Minister' is too reminiscent of our 'Colonial Days' and 'Chancellor' would be a huge no-no 'PR wise' for obvious reasons. Maybe "Asshole Emeritus"? At any rate, it would require an act of Congress to 'add' an office to the Executive Branch.
