Here it is.
Thanks @BruceandNosh for the title.

And still we persist.

Texas wants to secede?

Not just Texas. All the poor Southern States (apparently). They've had enough of taking money from the North all these years in return for that damn liberal agenda. Better poor than commie donch'all know ?

AcrossthePond55 · 10/12/2020 15:56

@DGRossetti

Thanks for the shot of optimism. Honestly, I veer from laughing at their attempts to overturn to being in absolute terror that they'll manage to pull it off by wicked hook and illegal crook.

From what's passing my eyes via Twitter and elsewhere, it seems we're really in the game of appearing loyal to the last. No one wants to be the Goering of the action this time around. We haven't yet reached the Thatcher moment where people traipse in one by one and say "Sorry Maggie ..." as they explain they're not supporting her anymore. Maybe we'll never reach it.

It's interesting that the authorities chose this interregnum to start proceedings against Facebook. I don't believe for a minute that it would have happened had Trump won.

Bwahahahaha!

Ain't that the truth! And as an added bonus, we'd get rid of Mitch (Ky) and Lindsay (SC) in one fell swoop!

And in a change from 1860/61 I have a feeling that the majority Northern sentiment to secession will be "Don't let the door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya!

Although, come to think of it, KY didn't fully secede, it just formed a shadow govt that was 'admitted' to the CSA. But it was still basically a Union state.

You're pushing my memory of the (US) Civil War (almost entirely learned thanks to Ken Burns ...)

Meanwhile, a little something for the British, or Anglophile colonialists ...

Here, Texas, let me help you pack.
Do you need a ride to the airport? Shall I pack you a snack?
You don't want to be late, maybe you better leave for the airport right now!
Flight's at the gate – tatty-bye, we'll do fine, dear, somehow.
Yes take your best mate, don't be lonely, take Mitch of Moscow.

(Yy, I know it's not really funny and that dividing-and-conquering is the wet dream of entities hostile to the US, EU and Five Eyes.)

I thought Trump now hates Facebook?

Well only when they aren't dancing to his tune.

Trump2024 (yes I know) would be predicated upon his being able to spew shite all over social media, as he has done thus far. And their ongoing "crackdown" is clearly hurting him. Hence his little tantrum about vetoing the NDAA if Congress didn't force Twitter to publish his tweets (or whatever).

Apparently Melania is debating whether to go to Mar a Lago, or Trump Towers when they leave the Whitehouse.

What, you mean no one knew ?

Interesting

Including

The court filings also appear to have been prepared in haste. For example, the lawsuit says the four states that Texas wants to sue have a total of 72 electoral votes. The total is actually 62.

'Washington (CNN)The Trump administration has finalized a regulation that would place more limits on migrants seeking refuge in the United States, the latest in a series of rules that make it exceedingly difficult to claim asylum in the US and serving as yet another example of the challenges an incoming Biden administration will face in undoing President Donald Trump's policies.'

The GOP need someone to do a Geoffrey Howe on Trump

www.newsweek.com/der-spiegel-donald-trump-election-loser-year-germany-1553807

The German magazine Der Spiegel has delivered a withering assessment of President Donald Trump's 2020 in an article headlined "The loser of the year."

The piece of more than 3,300 words pulled no punches in criticizing Trump's response to the coronavirus pandemic, his refusal to accept an election defeat, and for good measure, it took swipes at other presidential actions this year.

Trump's presidency ends as it began. Without decency and without dignity.

Haven't watched The Crown but if it makes an obscure 30 year old reference clear, so much the better.

www.cnn.com/2020/12/10/politics/2020-election-supreme-court-texas-trump/index.html

"Pennsylvania officials on Thursday filed a blistering brief at the Supreme Court rebuking the Texas lawsuit.......casting the move as using a "cacophony of bogus claims" to support a "seditious abuse of the judicial process."

Bolding (if it worked) mine. The wording rolls rather trippingly off the tongue, no?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 10/12/2020 21:17

@BruceAndNosh - "The Crown" unfortunately (to my mind) forbore to use the "savaged by a dead sheep" comment. And I've just this moment realised that I was expecting Thatcher and co to be like their Spitting Images at the time, no wonder I didn't take to Gillian Andersen!

CoteFolie · 10/12/2020 21:23

New: 106 members of Congress, including House Judiciary Committee top Republican Jim Jordan, filed a brief asking the Supreme Court to allow Texas to file a lawsuit that seeks to wipe out the results of elections in four states Trump lost.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 10/12/2020 21:32

Was it here or on Twitter I saw mention of the suggestion that other states should turn on Alabama and oblige them to overturn their abortion laws, in the same way as Texas is asking other states to overturn their election results?
Amy Siskind has put her foot in it hugely on Twitter in a response (with a distorted map of the USA) to Rush Limbaugh's remarks on secession, about California and New York being fed up with having to finance the rest of the country (red states) and moving to Canada to avoid it (I think that was the implication, not being familiar with the geo-political map of North America). I was about to quote it but it seems she has withdrawn the offending tweet. She has certainly apologised for it.
I hope someone here understands what I'm trying to say, I'm not sure I do myself!

chomalungma · 10/12/2020 22:31

This is damning of the statistical claim

Texas first alleges that “[t]he probability of former Vice President Biden winning the popular vote in the four Defendant States * * * independently given President Trump’s early lead in those States as of 3 a.m. on November 4, 2020, is less than one in a quadrillion.”
Bill of Complaint at ¶ 10. It bases this astounding assertion on Dr. Cicchetti’s assessment, for each of the states, of the extremely low probability that the votes counted before 3 a.m. and those counted afterwards were “randomly drawn from the same population.”

But the votes counted later were indisputably not “randomly drawn” from the same population of votes, as those counted earlier were predominantly in-person votes while those counted later were
predominantly mail-in votes.
