Facebook Christmas tat destroying real crafters/artists..

Just a bit of a rant, really.

I used to sell at craft markets and Christmas fairs. I paint watercolour cards, wall hangings, bookmarks, etc. and have them printed onto really nice paper - all ethical, no plastic, so on. I put time and hard work into them. I took a fine art course on top of other studies years ago at uni. I know what I'm doing.

I've also sold in independent shops.

Since lockdown obviously I couldn't do this. So I set up an Instagram and eventually an Etsy. I've been posting in local groups on FB (craft ones, not just random!)) for selling and they are just inundated with plastic crap! Literal tat from the pound shop with some extra glitter! But people are buying them!

I don't mean to sound stuck up, I'm not, I'm honestly just feeling so despondent. I haven't had a single sale and I've not made anything awful! But now it's got me doubting my own artwork and I don't know how to feel about it.

How can people be willing to spend so much on either MLM perfume or B&M's finest?

Sorry for the rant. Just needing a bit of a vent to anyone who might get it.

Your not wrong- 3 years later I learned the hard way, “if you can’t beat them, join them!”

I used to do calligraphy painted by hand with a paint brush. now I do cheap plastic vinyl lettering- guess what takes just a quarter of the time but sells much better- crazy really as hand painted is totally unique!

I don't blame you; at this rate a crappy Xmas wreath would probably make more than anything I've put out there.

I just don't get it though! Who wants this stuff?! Some of it is so painfully bad, but their posts are getting hundreds of comments! Then there's the "DM me him" MLM crowds. Ugh!

I get it, but different industry.
All I will say is if you can afford to, stick to what you know is right and be true to yourself.
Any bugger thinks they can learn a few songs and they're a professional musician/ entertainer.

Hun, rather. Even my keyboard is outraged!

I agree I craft but don't sell as some of the stuff I see selling so well is so shoddy I don't get it!
