To be offended by children throwing things at a dead animal on the side of the road?

Walking my dog and the kids are coming out of the local high school in their droves. Sadly there is a dead badger that’s been hit and placed on the grass verge. In come a group of boys who start throwing stuff at it. I told them to stop and they tell me ‘it’s a fucking animal’. AIBU to find this behaviour disgusting and pull them up on it? I wish parents would raise their children to have a deeper respect and compassion for non human life 😕

I can understand why you're offended by it. It would disturb me as well

Carpetflowers · 30/11/2020 15:54

It’s disrespectful, would upset me to see that.

WellyBootsAreYouFrom · 30/11/2020 15:54

Disgusted, disappointed, ashamed - yeah, fair enough, their parents are clearly not teaching the kids respect.
Offended? That's a weird reaction.

Hotchocolatewithcream · 30/11/2020 15:55

I agree and would be disturbed too but I also think that the sort of person who would do something like that is highly unlikely to respond favourably to being pulled up on their behaviour.

I guess I was offended by their response of ‘it’s a fucking animal’ as if that in any way makes it ok. Makes you wonder about the parents... 😕

How could you not respond

"So are you, you nobhead" Grin

We're all animals, clearly biology not going well at that school.

Goosefoot · 30/11/2020 16:44

That seems lame at that age. And yes, disrespectful.

With younger kids I wouldn't think much of it, they'd be doing it from curiosity at least in part.

Lol, you’ve guessed my response to them. I shouted ‘So are you, you’re a fucking animal, you jerks’. They just continued walking. I suppose I’ve just been reminded of why I prefer animals to people. 😒

God some parents really dont raise their children very well do they Shock

Whatwouldscullydo · 30/11/2020 17:00

What disgusting children. I'd be bloody ashamed of mine if they did that. No need.

WorraLiberty · 30/11/2020 17:01

YANBU

Although I'm cringing at 'jerks'.

Who even says that? 😄

CastleOfDoom · 30/11/2020 17:04

Good for you OP, horrible little fuckers.

Blacktothepink · 30/11/2020 17:04

Horrible, that would upset me too, and I’d tell them so too.

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 30/11/2020 17:05

It’s not nice. It’s the sort of behaviour adults should discourage.

However if you were to go back in time literally a thousand years or more you would find children doing the exact same thing, so I wouldn’t worry too much about the present state of humanity.

Unless you're a vegan you're a hypocrite

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 30/11/2020 17:09

Immature, nasty little twats thinking they’re big. They won’t amount to anything in life as they won’t be the kids that have a brain and won’t be kind.

Don't be ridiculous, just because you eat animals doesn't mean you have no respect for any of them.
DGRossetti · 30/11/2020 17:21

I read a while back that a lot of dead badgers at the side of a road are dumped there by the scum that find badger baiting fun.

PizzaForOne · 30/11/2020 17:26

The swearing at you is offensive.

Playing around with a dead animal (that they almost certainly didn't kill) - no. I think this is just kids/teens being kids/teens. We would have done stuff like this when I was younger, I remember a friend picking up a dead rat at the road side with a stick and chasing us with it.

Nikhedonia · 30/11/2020 17:27

‘So are you, you’re a fucking animal, you jerks’.

Didn't exactly cover yourself in glory with that response and interestingly was left out of your OP.

Callcat · 30/11/2020 17:30

I haven't heard jerk since 1992. I bet the kids didn't know what it meant!

Get off your high horse! I’d love to know know you would you respond...

Yes. I am vegan and I have been vegan for 6 years although I don’t see how it’s relevant.
